Starting this thread while I digest the last few posts on the previous thread. I think the H&M saga could be as unsettling for the RF as the Charles & Diana bad publicity in the 1990s, if not worse.

I don’t think Zara Philips is the biggest name on the Rolex rosta! They give formula 1 around $45m for sponsorship. Plus there’s Roger Federer, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson plus a host of other top sports stars. Zara would be small change in comparison to most of them!

I do think there’s nothing worse than privileged people making vacuous noises that mean absolutely nothing. No one ever asks her HOW she thinks her ideals can be achieved? WHAT does she propose? It’s just wordy jumble. It’s not ent use to anyone.

Get a proper role doing something useful would be my advice. Make a difference to those you champion instead of talking about them.

Are they representing the Queen on this call?

They are President and vice President of the Queen's commonwealth Trust. So why would they be representing themselves, or building their own status, if this is their positions? I don't believe they have been stripped of this. Not according to today's press.

MissEliza · 06/07/2020 22:19

I watched the short version of the video and I was struck by how much MM dominated it. However that may be down to rather biased editing by someone. More importantly, I really got lost as to what her objective was. She just seemed to ramble on. Tbh the only thing I got was not to be a bystander to racism. That's a good message.

Yet.

She certainly can talk! Most of it seemed gibberish but the passion came through.

Although interestingly when I went to check this, the link to the team’s page was down - www.queenscommonwealthtrust.org/team/ - and after checking through the home page, I see the Queen is stated as Patron and Harry as President (under the comments of the top photo). However, as far as the team goes, I see no mention anywhere of Meghan. It seems a little odd.
Justmuddlingalong · 06/07/2020 23:04

You would never know H was president of The Queens Commonwealth Trust. He looked like a bit of an interloper in that video.

I see though that H and M’s chat is listed on the website. So presumably it has the backing of the Queen?

The same occurred to me, even though - as you said - the video's on there
This is probably a stupid question, but was Meghan definitely made VP, or was it just assumed that's what she'd be because Harry was "top dog" so to speak?

MissEliza · 06/07/2020 23:17

@lifestooshort123 exactly! I can tell she cares but I'm not quite sure what she wants the rest of us to do! I have to compare that with seeing Bianca Williams today. I was saddened and angered by her expression of how police searches made her feel. I feel I want to reach out to her as a mother with a big hug.

Myimaginarycathadfleas · 06/07/2020 23:21

I think it's unfortunate that an edited version was put out. It's entirely possible that the editing was outside their control, and that the full version gave the other participants the chance to be heard, let's hope so.

I don't think the Queen will be all that bothered by the video, it doesn't say anything significant. And that is my point. It's gibberish. MM
talks fluently and interminably but says nothing. H doesn't even manage that. There is no content. If this is what they have to offer on the speaking circuit God help them.

Thankfully the "full version did" - a link to it was posted at 19.18 - but whether or not the editing was outside their control I honestly don't know

Justmuddlingalong · 06/07/2020 23:37

Whoever edited it could only work with what that had. More word salad, doe eyes and the usual use of a paragraph when a few word would have done.

CallmeAngelina · 06/07/2020 23:40

God, can you imagine having those two to dinner?
You'd spend the entire evening being lectured at, for a whole host of things.

Justmuddlingalong · 06/07/2020 23:52

And probably be left to pick up the bill too.

calmcoolandcollected · 07/07/2020 00:28

Few things are as emblematic of the massive hypocrisy of Meghan and Harry, than two people calling themselves "The Duke and Duchess" and refusing to surrender their HRHs voluntarily but only grudgingly not using them publicly, and living off the wealth of a hereditary monarchy, one of the least equitable democratic institutions in human history, lecturing the rest of us about inequality.

I could not have put it better myself. I have respect for the Queen, because I think she truly feels it's her duty to serve the British Islands. She's not from my generation, she's from the one before mine and I believe that she believes it is her duty to serve her country. That means something very special to her. After she's gone. Fuck them all, especially Charles, if he doesn't rein this pair of wannabes in he's a bigger fool than he appears to be. Cut them off now, cut the money. They won't respond to anything else.

I am not sure whose idea it was to edit out the Youth speakers to only show H&M speaking but it was a bad one. It may not have been H&M decision to be fair. But it makes the other speakers look pointless and inconsequential, like they had nothing useful to say so it was edited out. It may have even been the press that did that editing, and if so that is really unfair and should be called out.

She is incredibly articulate but I think tries too hard. There is an itensity that makes it difficult to watch.

They are on a difficult wicket talking about privilege, in-equality and bias. Those three things are the reason why they get to stay in a 12 bathroom mansion in LA for free. Why they know what the inside of a private jet looks like.

StartupRepair · 07/07/2020 04:33

Yes it is the relentless intensity and the staginess that makes it hard for me to watch.
