Starting this thread while I digest the last few posts on the previous thread. I think the H&M saga could be as unsettling for the RF as the Charles & Diana bad publicity in the 1990s, if not worse.

I think Charlotte Dujardin is doing ok for sponsors...

She is droning on and on in that video, but there's a few times on it where it's as if it has been edited to have all the bits of them together. So editing out the other speakers. I'm not sure but I thought it and rewatched to check.

Blossom513 · 06/07/2020 19:08

@fatgirlslimmer

Was that video edited as I could only hear MM & PH and at the end when he apologised for interrupting MM kept on talking?

I think it was edited so I don't think she jumped in, but they still edited out the response and everything the young leaders must have said. In a 4.5 minute video that is introduced as a 'discussion with young leaders', it's edited to show them speaking the entire time, bar about 10 seconds for one of the young leaders. I'm not even exaggerating.

Cartesiandebt · 06/07/2020 19:11

So they are effectively silencing the ‘young leaders’ while using them to further their own PR agenda.

massivecheeseplant · 06/07/2020 19:12

That video 😆. They start off with equal screen space then within five seconds you see Meghan subtly start nudging Harry over until she's slap bang in the centre and by the end of the video he's hanging halfway off the screen!

Justmuddlingalong · 06/07/2020 19:15

She really fancies herself as a wordsmith doesn't she. He just appears to be an eejit saying "yes dear" every now and then. They're the couple who just keep on giving. As well as the couple who just keep on taking.

thisenglishlife · 06/07/2020 19:18

There's a 20 minute version: tinyurl.com/mmmaredhcw

Of course that must explain it, eventing is so high profile that even a team silver gets the Rolex campaign, nothing to do with being the Queen’s granddaughter, I wonder if the other silver medalists Tina Cook, William Fox-Pitt, Mary King and Nicola Wilson were unavailable that day and only Zara had a window........

derxa · 06/07/2020 19:29

They need to learn the art of listening.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/07/2020 19:33

They could fund a fair few causes with their millions

Doesn't that rather depend on where the money's coming from?
As a man who gets a lot of personal mileage out of his charities, I can't see Charles being too thrilled if his cash is spent on "causes" which reflect no glory on him - especially if the apparent donors are kicking him in the shins while they're doing it

I wonder who edited the 4.5 minute press release version? 🤔

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 06/07/2020 19:36

alliwant all sportsmen and women have sponsors, I’m talking about high profile advertising campaigns for luxury brands, I don’t think Charlotte has appeared in advertising campaigns like these.

As a lifelong avid equestrian, I do agree that Zara got more media coverage because of who she is related to than the equivalently talented rider at the time. More media time in turns makes more sense for a company to use her for a sponsorship because of the additional publicity.

Undoubtably Zara is very talented but she also has the luxury of having knowledgable and talented parents who also had the funds to support her hobby and in turn career. Eventing is not cheap and it’s a sport many simply cannot afford to get into.

Nishky · 06/07/2020 19:59

@ZaraCarmichaelshighheels the Olympic silver is not the only thing that Zara has won....

Peaseblossom22 · 06/07/2020 20:01

@ZaraCarmichaelshighheels like this you mean

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 06/07/2020 20:23

Nishky you really don’t need to tell me about Zara’s achievements I am fully aware of her sporting prowess but to say that is the only thing that is appealing to Rolex, Landrover, Icandy,, Musto to name just a few is disingenuous.

I'm horsey too and although Zara is very successful, Charlotte Dujardin has individually and as part of a team, experienced more dressage success than anyone since something like the 1920's! Love her, such a natural talent. I think she has now earned well deserved recognition and sponsorship success.
I do think there's more money in eventing-there's the big 4* events like Badminton and Burghley and loads more associated sponsorship deals available.
As an aside, I watched the H&M video on mute and the body language is funny. She really looks like she dominates and it is unfortunate that she was front and centre and by the end, H is practically off screen! Agree with pp that she looks beautiful and is very eloquent.
Once again though, is it advisable to be banging on about politically charged topics, whilst hanging for dear life onto their titles?

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 06/07/2020 20:29

Peaseblossom I don’t know why have you linked a picture of Steve Guerdat, I know he’s advertised Rolex, if you read my post I said I don’t think Charlotte Dujardin has appeared in a high end advertising campaign despite her being the UK’s most successful equestrian ever.

Peaseblossom22 · 06/07/2020 20:33

Sorry I thought the point you were making was that she only got the deal because she was Roysl when in reality there are several non royals who also are sponsored and appear in the horsey press

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 06/07/2020 20:34

I also suspect that Steve Guerdat being Swiss and top of his game would appeal to the Swiss Rolex.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 06/07/2020 20:39

I must stress I don’t blame Zara one bit (as I stated in my initial post) for playing the cards life has dealt her, I would do exactly the same!, I am just saying that being Royal has lifted her opportunities massively compared to others who have achieved the same or more, Zara isn’t stupid, I’m pretty sure she knows her connections have given her a huge advantage in life compared to other equestrian riders.

TBF there was more from the young leaders on the longer version and they had some important things to say
Which makes me wonder who directed the editing for the shorter piece ...
