Ok, I've looked at the bridesmaids and tights thing, courtesy of this entry on the helpful blog linked to earlier:

So, no tights. Now, if you'd asked me before, I would have said 'can't see it as a big thing' -
I did say earlier I hadn't noticed them or the lack of them on the day. And it's not a big thing. But I would now agree with some of the comments on that blog post that the outfits look a bit casual without them. It's also jarring because they've got closed toe shoes on. If they were in sandals.. maybe not so much. Granted I wore skirts, no tights and shoes, but that was as a late 80s teenager who thought I knew everything. I was not dressed formally at the time, either...
The other small thing that grated on me was the line reporting:
The girls’ shoes are by Aquazzura, made in white leather and monogrammed with the wedding date and each of the girls’ initials on the sole of the shoe. Meghan gifted the shoes to each bridesmaid as a keepsake of the special day.
It all sounds very lovely and has personal touches. But then you think
A) what else was she going to do with six pairs of once-worn bridesmaids' shoes?.(one of the blog comments says as much)
B) surely there's no question of making bridesmaids, or their parents, pay for anything at a royal wedding? I know it's more standard that bridesmaids fund their own outfits in the US. But really, surely the bride buying and giving them the shoes to keep was absolutely to be expected?
