No one knew they were in town at first, it wasn't until they made a few appearances at small shops asking for them to ban the media, and then they also made a post asking that everyone leave them alone that anyone finally twigged that they were on the Island. It was a bit 'what?'Confused

Honestly no one would have had a clue. One bewildered shop keeper went and put up a 'no media' sign because they told him they were being houndedHmm

The weekend after it came out they were here and we were also informed by our PO'd media (that hadn't been hounding them) that we were also footing their security bill, I was dropping off DC at work first thing in the morning. Radio announcer says, 'So I hear we have royalty visiting, welcome to the Island Harry and Megan, this next song is for you...' A bit pissed, I reached forward to turn the station, and then the song came on...

Duran Duran's Please Please Tell Me Why. I laughed all the way homeGrin

'You say you're easy on me, you're about as easy as a nuclear war'

I remember reading about the store incident. This is how the DM reported it

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7876843/Shopkeeper-mistook-Prince-Harry-Prince-ANDREW.html

The lady seems to have come over a bit starstruck by the time the press got to her!

Winterlife · 25/05/2020 04:24

Odd, @Myimaginarycathasfleas, I can see the beginning of your message, but when I open the thread, it's gone.

That is what really pissed me off. Their Canadian security bill was estimated to be over $2 million. They should have been denied entry on that basis alone.

That's really an obscene amount of money, how on earth can it cost that much?

Winterlife · 25/05/2020 08:44

That's been the estimate, caperberries. We will know later in the year, when the report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020 is released.

I know for a fact they had a minimum of two full time RCMP officers, perhaps more, and, because they were staying at a home adjacent to the ocean, a ship was patrolling outside their home. It's disgusting, as they were not in Canada for any official engagements.

caperberries · 25/05/2020 08:50

Their delusions of grandeur are so breathtaking. They must be doing untold damage to the nation's acceptance of the monarchy.

At a time of crisis, the idea of squandering millions on these self-important, talentless mediocrities is just beyond galling.

TimeLady · 25/05/2020 08:58

This is interesting from an Australian perspective:

The issue here is that to be royal is to have to continually prove your cushy entitlements represent good value to the masses.

Should the monarchy start to look like a bloated, ineffectual gaggle who squander money (which would otherwise be in government coffers) on hand-cut brandy snifters and crocodile smoking slippers and spend too little time energetically plugging the UK, they know they risk inciting the sort of groundswell of public anger that could lead to their ousting.

Like it or not there is something of an unspoken contract between the royal family and the public. No one looks too closely at the Firm’s complicated, at times questionable, means of financing their lives and the Windsors in turn devote their working days to being conscientious champions for Blighty.

Very accurate description of the HAM debacle.

HarryDaylight · 25/05/2020 11:04

Teddy1970 is this the video?

twitter.com/i/status/1239001756417179648

JudgeRindersMinder · 25/05/2020 11:14

@HarryDaylight that video is something else!!!

7Worfs · 25/05/2020 11:21

Oh that video is bad.

Kate looks so smiley, happy and oblivious, it’s like watching a documentary on a predator stalking.
You can almost feel the intense jealousy.

Hamsterian · 25/05/2020 11:29

How dare Kate block the camera 🤣 that video is scary.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 25/05/2020 11:47

That video - wow.

Inspiralcarpetry · 25/05/2020 11:59

Could the speed have been slowed down on that vid so it might just have been a glance? That might explain it?
If not, argh, she's so busted as that is her true colours shown right there. Hard as nails.

FannyCann · 25/05/2020 12:06

Inspiralcarpetry it's that fleeting momentary look that gives a window into the soul! A friend did a psychology research study into it, and although Strictly Come Dancing didn't form part of her research, she loves to examine the dancers' facial expressions frame by frame to spot budding romances or bust ups. I couldn't possible comment on the accuracy of her conclusions. LOL

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/05/2020 12:12

If looks could kill ...

Personally I was always interested in this one:

StartupRepair · 25/05/2020 12:13

It's is more than a micro expression, that's for sure.

BalloonSlayer · 25/05/2020 12:14

Oh for heaven's sake that has been slowed down so much it must have been a nanosecond. A look like that could have been caused by anything, a fly buzzing past, a stab of stomach ache, realising the person doing the filming is someone you find difficult. . .

7Worfs · 25/05/2020 12:23

Balloon your interpretations and scenario speculations are always great to read Grin

Jillyhilly · 25/05/2020 12:31

Anyone watching Selling Sunset on Netflix? Can’t recommend it highly enough for anyone interested in finding out how much property $15 million (or $25, 55 or 75 milion) buys you in LA. And the kind of characters you deal with in finding said property. It’s pretty fascinating.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 25/05/2020 12:49

Speaking of micro expressions I think her smile instantly fell on the video when Archie said da da quite clearly
I think she was a little upset and covered it with duck rabbit
I am not saying this in a negative way - I think she wanted to show her close bond with her son - it wasn’t a malicious thing we all want our babies to say mama 😊😊
She may actually be under confident and that’s why the thin skin - I have no idea if she was jealous of Kate but I might be 😬 she has a wonderful quiet confidence and a beautiful smile
( I think Meghan is beautiful too )

MasterBruceBalloon · 25/05/2020 12:59

Sorry but I am not seeing anything in these videos. They're so slowed down and over analysed.

mooching · 25/05/2020 13:06

I think that glance at Kate could have equally been one of uncertainty. A quick let's see how she's doing it and then copy her.

Agree with Balloon that it is slowed down and made to look worse than it is.

Littleyellowfootball · 25/05/2020 13:08

Yes agree about that video but the look from Sophie Wow that speak volumes - Meghan’s reaction too
