They just didn't seem willing to listen to others outside their own self-made bubble. Is just seems so preventable. For example when they made their announcement in January their own staff at the palace and of course PC and PW all asked them not to run ahead of themselves but do more negotiation behind the scenes. I actually think it's sad as it played out so quickly, in less than two years. I think the Americans are also stepping back to see what happens before showing lots of support as Prince William and Catherine are very popular over here and people are very confused about what exactly happened. I think there is sense they are loose canons.

7Worfs · 24/05/2020 09:22

The conclusion was the same as on these threads as in, where do they go from here? Meghan will be happy, Harry not so much.

I think Meghan is just about to learn the biggest lesson of her life.
The enormity of what they’ve lost and their lack of of A-list skills has doomed them to eternal mediocrity.
They’ll realise soon enough and it won’t be pretty.

HermanHermit · 24/05/2020 09:24

“Ringing the service vendors” sounds like calling wedgewood and franklin mint to check whether they’re interested in a new merch deal

Viviennemary · 24/05/2020 09:52

Who does that after two years. I wonder why. It will be a money making scheme probably.

SunbathingDragon · 24/05/2020 09:54

The enormity of what they’ve lost and their lack of of A-list skills has doomed them to eternal mediocrity.

That’s at best. They really do run the risk of becoming people to avoid because they are just showing they don’t listen to advice and if they also sell out people in a book or interviews, no celeb will have anything to do with them. So what do they have left? Their terrible PR has given many a belief that they do not have nice personalities, they aren’t quietly getting on with goodwill and helping charities but using them for odd photo opps and that’s it, and they have fallen out with family and the only “friends” are new ones who will ditch them in an instant to save their image.

BalloonSlayer · 24/05/2020 09:59

Well they probably rang the "wedding vendors" just because the wedding industry has collapsed.

They might have been reminiscing, what a wonderful day weren't those people great? Then feeling sad that they might all have lost their livelihoods. So they give them a ring, say they are thinking of them, maybe promise to use them again when things get back to normal.

I'd say it would be much appreciated.

I am not a huge M&H fan - if I was I wouldn't read this thread - but sometimes the desperation to think the absolute worst of them in every single situation, and to spin everything they do entirely negatively, is just deplorable.

TimeLady · 24/05/2020 10:00

Positive story, on the whole in today's Sunday Times.

The comments below suggest the public, in the UK at least, isn't so forgiving.

The great escape: Prince Harry and Meghan’s new life in LA

I can’t see how anyone would think it’s nice and normal to ring wedding vendors and promise to use them again, when you’ve just got married. Are you predicting they will divorce?

ajandjjmum · 24/05/2020 10:05

Maybe they spoke to the 'wedding vendors' to ask them to take part in the previously mentioned 'renewal of vows'?!! Grin

7Worfs · 24/05/2020 10:15

Balloon your optimism is lovely, but I disagree - Zooming people with failing businesses from an $18mil LA mansion you use for free, cannot come across well.

Walkingtheplank · 24/05/2020 10:17

Katie Nicholl seems omnipresent with regards to H&M but I've never known her to say (usually on Channel 5)or in print) anything I dont know already or anything you couldn't just make up because its supposition - to the extent I change channel if she is on TV.
Hats off to her for making a living saying absolutely nothing new though.

BalloonSlayer · 24/05/2020 10:18

Of course that's not what I meant!

I meant that they might have said "we will be coming back to Frogmore for a few weeks a year and we will use you for our parties,"

You do realise that florists and caterers don't just do weddings, don't you?

Jeez . . . Hmm

7Worfs · 24/05/2020 10:27

Thanks for the share token, TimeLady!

On the surface it’s positive, but they still come across as unlikeable due to the extensive details on their less savoury actions, as well as friends’ accounts - is this intentional?

And this:

Doria still lives in LA and her daughter has always thought of herself as a Cali girl at heart. “I was born and raised in Los Angeles, a California girl who lives by the ethos that most things can be cured with either yoga, the beach or a few avocados,” she once blogged.

is absolutely vom inducing.
Who thinks and views life in such shallow terms? Is it just pretence and attention seeking or she genuinely believes she’s the star in her own film? Bet she even has a soundtrack playing in her head. 🤦‍♀️

Winterlife · 24/05/2020 10:28

Thanks for the link and token, TimeLady. I laughed at the idea MM “knows Canada well”. She spent all her time in what we call the “centre of the universe”, Toronto. I doubt she knows Québec, or the Maritimes, or Northern Ontario, or the charming towns depicted in Robertson Davies’ books, or the prairies, or Alberta, or Northern BC, or BC’s coast, or its interior, or the north. It’s a huge country with uniqueness and distinct cultures.

If MM had really understood Canada, she and Harry would not have sucked over $2 million in taxpayer funds. They have increased resentment to the BRF, excluding HMQ, throughout Canada.

Viviennemary · 24/05/2020 10:29

Harry's public image was developed very carefully with PR as with all the Royals. The Queen Mother was a horrible old snob but PR made her the nation's favourite granny. I've yet to speak to somebody of the older generation who had a good word to say about her over the years. Now H and M have ignored advice and fallen out with the tabloids. Well see what happens next. The best thing they could do is keep a low profile but I doubt they will.

Serenster · 24/05/2020 10:30

They might have done, BalloonSlayer, of course we don't know. It bugs me a trifle, however, as they are behaving like other couples I have known, and assuming that just because their wedding was a special day for them, it was also the most important day ever for their guests. And their suppliers too, it seems, in this case. People have lives of their own, self-obsessed brides and grooms! They are not just bit-part players in the story of you!

(and yes, I get that for the named suppliers it probably was great for them commercially in terms of raising their profile. But who on earth would call them to say "wasn't it amazing, that day I ensured your business became really profitable!")

WindsorBlues · 24/05/2020 10:31

I meant that they might have said "we will be coming back to Frogmore for a few weeks a year and we will use you for our parties,"

With the amount of debt they're in they'll have to use Icelands party favourites when entertaining I doubt their budget could stretch to the Queen's caterers.

7Worfs · 24/05/2020 10:35

Okay, let’s entertain for a moment this implausible scenario - who would they entertain at Frogmore?
They’ve fallen out with almost everyone.

SunbathingDragon · 24/05/2020 10:50

I was going to say as long as they aren’t planning on the tax payer funding it again but you’re completely right; they don’t have anyone to entertain!

ArchePenguin · 24/05/2020 10:55

I have just had the time to watch the video. Has anyone watched E”s Live on the Red Carpet? The interviews are awful and cringey. Meghan’s interview is typical of the stuff that as bandied around. I don’t think there is anything good or bad about her interview at all. Anyway, moving on.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 24/05/2020 11:00

Thanks TimeLady as ever I pay more attention the comments rather than the article. I don’t think people like their behaviour very much.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 24/05/2020 11:41

I read the article this morning (we buy the Sunday Times, our weekly treat).

I thought it was positive and don’t mind the yoga, beach and avocados. Whatever works for her. My personal thing is horror films and sweets (when you are so overwhelmed by grief that you cannot read, sleep or eat. Some sugar and constant zombies/splatter/blood to make you think of other things. I would assume a lot of people think that is odd.)

I did find one thing a bit stinging though. The part where Taylor Perry allegedly sent his absolutely massive private jet big enough for about 120 people to pick up “the environmentally minded couple”. That cannot be an accident, can it?

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 24/05/2020 11:45

I find the calls to the wedding vendors a bit odd, but again, that may just be me.

If they had sent handwritten notes to thank them for their well wishes (if they post those on social media) and written that they would use them for events when they could and recommend them to friends to help them, that would have been lovely.

CathyorClaire · 24/05/2020 11:57

Thanks for the article.

Smacks more of the way they'd like things to go rather than the way they're more likely to turn out.

Corona delayed their magnificent debut and that's given them the chance to dent their shiny image over and over again. They've grabbed that chance with both hands and run. Never let it be said they miss an own goal.

By the time they're able to get out there in the way they planned they'll be old news.

I can't see how to get to the comments BTW. Any tips gratefully received Smile

FannyCann · 24/05/2020 12:20
