New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

I’m just watching a report on sky news about the homeless in Los Angeles: 5,000 homeless people in less than a square mile. news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-fears-virus-could-run-rampant-among-homeless-communities-on-skid-row-11989673

This is their home now. Pretty sobering. I wonder how PH feels about that sitting a scrounged $18m luxury mansion.

CathyorClaire · 17/05/2020 10:40

So they've already saved themselves £100K in the six months they've been out of the country despite us being told they'd be paying market rent for Toad Hall and they're now being allowed to roll up repayments on the refurb with the rent?

More royal smoke and mirrors. The public purse will never see this money back.

Neither of these 3 "announcements" detracted from the bride and grooms day

Unless you were one of them how would you know?

Justmuddlingalong · 17/05/2020 11:09

I wonder who'll be responsible for the ongoing payments for Frogmore cottage if it all goes belly up. Us probably.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 17/05/2020 11:33

They’re busy washing their hands, and not just because of Covid!

Brilliant!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/05/2020 11:52

(Meghan's) now been empowered to be the main, and possibly sole breadwinner of the family

Not quite ... if it's true that Charles is still bankrolling them I suppose Harry could spin that as "his" contribution?

Interesting about the £18k pm rent gradually repaying capital costs, though. How convenient - and how easily changed according to what suits

Justmuddlingalong · 17/05/2020 12:01

Do the royal family pay council tax?

ArchePenguin · 17/05/2020 12:06

Charles gives money to Harry who gives it to grandma who will leave it to Charles in her will.

Winning.

ajandjjmum · 17/05/2020 12:25

Remember it's all up for review after 12 months. Hopefully Charles will do a five year schedule showing reduced rates - £2m Yr. 1, £1.5m Yr. 2 etc. and they're on their own after five years.

And if they don't pay rent, the property will be reclaimed.

CathyorClaire · 17/05/2020 12:27

Quite.

Especially as sovereign to sovereign bequests are free of inheritance tax.

Mamamia456 · 17/05/2020 12:27

Prince Harry does have money. He was left millions by Diana and also the Queen Mother.

RosesandIris · 17/05/2020 12:29

I think Charles will find it hard to be tough with Harry. It won’t be easy for William either when his turn comes.

In which case why has he not coughed the £2.4m small change in its entirety already?

Mamamia456 · 17/05/2020 12:33

Justmuddlingalong - Yes they do pay council tax.

CathyorClare - I have no idea why.

CathyorClaire · 17/05/2020 12:37

Charles maybe although he's already bleating he's not a bottomless money pit where JustH's lavish expenses are concerned.

I think Wills might be a different matter. He's reportedly more Spencer than Windsor and his uncle had no qualms denying Diana a bolthole on the Althorp estate. Also, by the time he's stuck on the throne he's likely to have two other freeloaders adults to support in the shape of Charlotte and Louis. Is he going to want to support a fifty odd year old toddler as well?

ajandjjmum · 17/05/2020 12:38

At the rate they're running through it, he's probably looking at the decline in horror. Private jets don't come cheap - nor is his wife's taste!

Oldbutstillgotit · 17/05/2020 12:39

I could be wrong but I am sure I read that some of his inheritance (s) is tied up until he is 40. Given what happened to Diana and the resulting outcry I think that Charles will find it hard to cut off H financially especially if it means no/ little security . Charles does not have limitless funds and I certainly don’t think he will find a multi million pound house

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/05/2020 12:40

As I've often said, that may depend on what H&M know about either or both ...

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 17/05/2020 12:50

Or the RF may just brazen it out puzzled & say no more cash. It smacks a bit like blackmail to me otherwise.

Viviennemary · 17/05/2020 12:51

Harry won't spend a penny if somebody else will cough up or he can have a freebie. No way will he dip into money left to him. Hence the big plans to take Hollywood by storm and earn billions. Looks like that hit the ground running.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/05/2020 12:54

You could be right, Penguin, but even with their capacity to influence things there's so much dirt which keeps coming out over RF members, and somehow I can't see them welcoming more

Not that there's a damned thing we could do about it of course

Inspiralcarpetry · 17/05/2020 13:07

I've no doubt that M via H could dish a lot of dirt on the RF, but I also think that grifters know where their next dollar is coming from and protect that dollar.
If M&H went too far, they would have their (currently) only income stream cut off and the thing that would hurt M most, which is the title removed.

Viviennemary · 17/05/2020 13:11

The royals seem to be teflon. There doesn't seem to be any amount of dirt that can impact on them significantly. And I expect there are things from Meghan's past she wouldn't want made public. Maybe they should write a book about her.

Wolfgirrl · 17/05/2020 13:38

@Viviennemary

Even if the mud stuck, theres no way of holding them to account. They have it tied up in a neat little bow.

CathyorClaire · 17/05/2020 13:55

Yep.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

And yep to this too.
There's a book due out in the summer investigating Andrew's ties to Epstein. No doubt it'll make him squirm but that's all. He'll lay low in mummy's selection of palaces and wait for it all to blow over yet again.

Wolfgirrl · 17/05/2020 14:11

I hope this wakes the public up as to why a hereditary monarchy is ridiculous.

Andrew isnt next in line- but had there been a twist of fate, he could have been. And there is nothing to stop an 'Andrew' being our king in future.
