New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

Isn't it so much better though with them out of the country? The DM can dredge up old stories but there is nothing more to say about them, they are yesterday's news. It feels like such a relief after all the drama to be able to concentrate on the genuinely good work the other royals do.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/05/2020 07:11

It will be interesting to see how far MM's female empowerment credentials are tested, because she's now been empowered to be the main, and possibly sole breadwinner of the family.

Thanks for the share token Time
‘Soap opera’ made me laugh - so true!

Correction to my post upthread: if H is there on a spousal visa, it looks as though he may be able to get a job as he's classified as a 'alien relative' Grin

It does, however, look horribly complicated; I hope they're on top of the paperwork.

A job doing what though? What is he able or qualified to do really? No one is going to pay him for Zoom chats about subjects he knows nothing about over there. He’s either got to dish the dirt on his family or learn to wait patiently for M to get off the phone.

Some of the comments section after the Sunday times article - ouch.

HarryDaylight · 17/05/2020 09:09

There were press reports that Harry would likely be granted US diplomatic status, which would allow him to get a green card.

Mamamia456 · 17/05/2020 09:12

Winterlife - I'm sure they congratulated them over the phone, as would I if someone phoned me with news telling me they were pregnant, but I would also refer to it if I saw them within the next few days/weeks.

Winterlife · 17/05/2020 09:14

If I were at someone’s wedding, I wouldn’t do anything to detract from the bride’s day.

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/05/2020 09:16

No skills! He could go and work in a factory, which is precisely what my dh did on arriving in the uk. It is much easier to get a job when you have a job. Wink

Looks like Meghan won’t qualify for any unemployment benefits either as “you have to have separated from your last job due to a lack of available work. I’m chuntering to myself imagining The Duchess of Sussex calling up to check her eligibility. www.dol.gov/general/topic/unemployment-insurance

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/05/2020 09:17

Mamamia
Especially if she rocked up in a maternity coat to take the focus away from the bride!

ArchePenguin · 17/05/2020 09:18

In a way, there is no mystery left. Meghan will tell us nothing we could not have made up for ourselves.”

Arf Arf!

RosesandIris · 17/05/2020 09:21

Perfectly dismissive quote from the Palace. Makes it perfectly clear what they think doesn’t it? Relief that the show has moved to another town with its cheap, tawdry acts. They’re busy washing their hands, and not just because of Covid!

HarryDaylight · 17/05/2020 09:28

Yes that Times article is searingly dismissive.

TimeLady · 17/05/2020 09:31

A job doing what though?

A paid director of Archewell is my only suggestion, although how Archewell is actually going to generate funds is beyond me. If there's another baby planned, as has been rumoured, that's not going to help M's employment prospects in the short term either.

Viviennemary · 17/05/2020 09:36

What a con those foundations sound. How can it be right to live in luxury creaming off money that other folk have donated. I read only 15% needs to go to charity.

Mamamia456 · 17/05/2020 09:37

I have been at 2 weddings where a pregnancy was "announced". I have also congratulated another couple on their engagement as that was the first time I had heard about it. Neither of these 3 "announcements" detracted from the bride and grooms day.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/05/2020 09:43

Under English charity law, founders being employed by the charity is problematic. Whether the same applies in the US I don't know. At any rate, he would be answerable to others in terms of his performance in the role. That again might be tricky.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/05/2020 09:45

I don't think a private announcement at a wedding would cause anyone any issue. I think rather differently of a very public one through the medium of clothing!

Winterlife · 17/05/2020 09:46

Well, MM did detract from Eugenie’s day, as press reports prove.

FannyCann · 17/05/2020 09:47

From the Times comments:

“Funding Freedom” is widely touted as a better title.

I wish I'd thought of that!Grin

FannyCann · 17/05/2020 09:49

They’re busy washing their hands, and not just because of Covid!

GrinGrin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 17/05/2020 09:50

@Viviennemary tbf, charities aren't all about money, some of them spend very little on actual activities but still have massive reach and impact. Those who have armies of volunteers, for instance.

Value for money has always been best measured through impact/results rather than through plain expenditure.

bluebell34567 · 17/05/2020 09:55

i totally agree Viviennemary. i lost my belief on such foundations. look what happened with PA with £350,000.

7Worfs · 17/05/2020 10:21

They’re busy washing their hands, and not just because of Covid!.

Nice Grin

@Mamamia456 give it a rest with the comparison between the weddings and pregnancy announcements you attend and those of senior royals being televised and scrutinised by media and public.
The very notion that they are the same is ludicrous.
