New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

What about his happiness though? He has been asked to sacrifice everything for his wife. Where is he on the scale of importance?

I agree Roses. It's very sad. He seems to be defined by making other people happy, starting with his mother. And now he's tied to someone for whom it will be a never ending task.

Using up my daily screenshot allowance!

The book about Katherine Howard sounds interesting.
And someone left Craig Brown's Ma'am Darling in the pass it on pile at work, so I sneaked it Home. It was very entertaining and had a few thoughtful insights.

She could have easily taken a back seat after Archie was born. She doesn't want a quiet life. She wants razzle dazzle glitz and glam. And being a VIP even amongst celebs because if her title. She isn't getting it now because of lockdown. She totally thrives on bring centre of attention. Plenty of attention bring a royal. But I wouldn't think she'd take kindly to being told you can't do that you must do it this way. What an all round disaster.

Teddy1970 · 15/05/2020 09:37

Exactly, they could have lived a very quiet life here in the UK, they wouldn't have been bothered, how many times have William and Kate been photographed by the tabloids dropping the kids off at school? None

RosesandIris · 15/05/2020 09:43

William and Kate play the game very very cleverly. They really understand the way it all works. No friends who talk to the Press. Kate’s family are watertight. They smile and turn up but give nothing of substance away about themselves. They release photos regularly on their terms, usually taken by Kate. They’re teaching their children to appear in public very gradually.
Kate dresses well but not ostentatiously. Everything is about their role, not themselves as individuals. Behind the scenes, they lead a very private life. Harry and Meghan could have done this too but it’s not what M wants at all. It is however probably what Harry wanted and expected. He married the wrong woman .

Is all this need for excitement and attention the reason all her appearances are “surprise”? Like this latest zoom meeting crash. They want everyone to be wowed at their arrival? It reminds me of those tv shows where they appear in someone’s living room as a surprise and the poor inhabitant has to appear all emotional and amazed.

How long will the wow factor last before people get annoyed with HaM just turning up and interfering with their jobs?

@fannycann I forgot about Crawfie, she was the Queen's nanny and another resident of Nottingham Cottage, although she was forced to leave it after her tell all book was released. The Royals always close ranks when books are released. Are H&M arrogant enough to believe it won't happen to them?

In a nutshell RosesandIris

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/05/2020 10:26

They close ranks around their own, not against them. H will be forgiven, MM will get a pass while she's still married to him but permafrozen when they divorce.

Viviennemary · 15/05/2020 10:30

Meghan will get the blame for everything. She will be frozen out and Harry will be welcome back like a lost sheep. Don't know what will happen to little Archie though.

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/05/2020 10:38

I agree she will be tolerated unless divorced. I can, however, see why she will be blamed as her role from the RF POV literally was to shut up and support her spouse. Kate would have been thus vilified had she behaved in the same way.

RosesandIris · 15/05/2020 10:54

I don't have much sympathy for her if she is frozen out. Every move she's made has been ill thought out and poorly judged. It doesn't take a genius to see what was expected of her. If she didn't want that, she shouldn't have married Harry.

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/05/2020 11:09

Some very insightful posts there, RosesandIris, but it's hardly just Meghan who's unlikely to admit a mistake ... the entire RF are hardly noted for it either (at least, not when there's a whipping boy available)

It's all a god awful mess, and it's becoming ever clearer that Harry - who was in a position to know better - totally lacks any judgement at all

BarleylemonPenguin · 15/05/2020 11:19

William and Kate play the game very very cleverly

I agree. I think that most people recognise that this is a game. They need us and we need them. Problems arise when either the audience or the actors breach these understandings and either start to believe that the actors are real or that the public image is the same as the private one.

MissEliza · 15/05/2020 11:36

Anyone remember the 'knives are out for Fergie'?

Viviennemary · 15/05/2020 12:08

Yes I do remember the knives. And one of the courtiers called her vulgar vulgar vulgar. It is a game and you need to play by the rules or it's a red card or the bench. Or a transfer. Or you go off to make your fortune in the USA.

catinb0oots · 15/05/2020 12:17

Didn't one of the tabloids run a poll asking if people would rather shag a goat of Fergie? Or something like that. People who reckon Meghan has had it harsher must be very young or have poor memories

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/05/2020 12:37

Agree people who didn't see the treatment of SF by the media have no concept of how bad it was. And what she didn't have was hoards of fangirls posting soppy messages to her on social media.

Mamamia456 · 15/05/2020 12:54

Barleylemon - But it's not a game, these are people's lives. It only seems to be women who marry in to the Royal family who come in for such scrutiny and criticism. Just because Diana, Fergie and Kate had their lives picked apart by the press doesn't make it acceptable. It's not a test that royal women need to pass FGS. The press should not be allowed to print some of the articles they do., and it's even worse now because of social media and the comments sections. It is bullying, even Piers Morgan has admitted he went too far.

MissEliza · 15/05/2020 13:20

Meanwhile Mark Phillips was able to ride off into the sunset without too much tabloid fuss. IIRC he'd had an affair and fathered a child with another woman. It was covered by the tabloids but the coverage was nothing like as sensationalist as Fergie. More recently, newlywed Mike Tindall was pictured hugging and kissing girls in a bar in New Zealand. It was covered by the tabloids but then forgotten. Imagine if a royal wife was photographed like that,

iVampire · 15/05/2020 14:12

You’re right. It’s not fair and it shouldn’t be acceptable.

And it’s wrong to say the Sussexes were the only ones ever to have gone through it.

So good on Harry for trying to remove his family from it

(Even though there have been a fair few contradictory actions since)

BarleylemonPenguin · 15/05/2020 14:14

Mamamia - It is a game - of life. This is what life actually is. A large part of it is spent on role-playing in a 'this is my job and my responsibility' sense. We all do this in order for societies to survive and thrive, although I am far from certain that many of us actually enjoy it. In terms of HaM, there was a role requirement and neither one managed to fulfil it. The only reason why the public has come down hard on these two is because they took the p and we have had to pay for it. We know that we have to pay for those who are above us anyway (that's how it works) but we really don't like it if they then taunt us with our offering.

Mamamia456 · 15/05/2020 14:42

Barley - Well they have said they will pay back the money for the renovations to Frogmore Cottage so we'll see if they do that, and we're not paying for them now as they are paying for their own security.
