New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

Beatrice's wedding hat was in character for her. Not as "attrntion seeking" but she seems to enjoy being brave with hats. Especially when she was younger (orange peel hat, butterfly hat, toilet seat hat...) Good for her!

Winterlife · 12/05/2020 23:01

If the story about the Queen offering Meghan the chance to marry in but not take a title and continue working as an actress, that was a fantastic deal and one she was very foolish to decline. Clearly they thought they could have their cake and eat it.

Realistically though, she can't act. It was fine to be a bad actress on a US television cable show. She wouldn't have had opportunities on UK television or theater, where actors really can act.

TheTiaraManager · 12/05/2020 23:03

Sorry if this is a stupid question! Does anyone live at Windsor Castle or Frogmore House? I didn't think HMQ lived at Windsor?

JudgeRindersMinder · 12/05/2020 23:09

@TheTiaraManager the Queen is often in residence at Windsor, apparently in an apartment there. You can bet your boots it’s not like any apartment you or I have ever seen though Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/05/2020 23:10

Tiara Frogmore House isn't lived in but is used to put on royal events. Windsor Castle is where the Queen spends her weekends. Buckingham Palace is The Office.

Viviennemary · 12/05/2020 23:16

I read the other day the Queen is to live indefinitely at Winsor and the Balmoral stay is cancelled.

milveycrohn · 12/05/2020 23:17

@TheTiaraManager. From what I understand, under normal times, the Queen is at Buckingham Palace during the week, and Windsor at weekends, except for when she is at Balmoral, or Sandringham, and excepting official engagements.
At the moment she is at Windsor

Mamamia456 · 12/05/2020 23:19

Yes she will be staying at Windsor indefinitely because of the coronavirus.

ButteryPuffin · 12/05/2020 23:23

Is it that she and Philip are both at Windsor now? I think I read he'd been moved back from Wood Farm. I guess Windsor is the safest option for them both if help is needed quickly.

Are Charles and Camilla going to stay in Scotland indefinitely for the moment?

TheTiaraManager · 12/05/2020 23:28

@JudgeRindersMinder & imaginerycat

Thank you CakeGin

TheTiaraManager · 12/05/2020 23:29

Milvey thank you CakeGin

Every single time I've ever heard someone say that "if you only knew the "real" story, you'd understand" I then hear the "real" story and it make no difference to my initial thoughts.
So I'm not holding out for any massive change of opinion, post-Scobie.

SunbathingDragon · 12/05/2020 23:38

According to the DM , M wants the biography published earlier than August as she is fed up with the negative stories about her

How would she know what it will say considering her earlier bleating that she didn’t cooperate with Scobie for the book?

FannyCann · 12/05/2020 23:41

orange peel hat, butterfly hat, toilet seat hat

Toilet seat hat? How the hell did I miss that? Pictures pleeeaase...

Re HMQ at Windsor, given the slight relaxation of lockdown, with more expected, it seems mean if she can't head up to Balmoral come August. She'll be able to carry on isolating there, although perhaps the house parties and guests would have to be curtailed. I bet Charles is delighted with his unexpected extended holiday up there, he once described it as the best place in the world.

Binglebong · 12/05/2020 23:55

I took it to mean the monarchy should have some income that isn't from the state so they can give independent opinions and aren't always thinking of where the money comes from

Yes this is what Charles meant. The monarch is supposed to be independent from the government, which it won't be if the government holds the monarch's purse strings.

So exactly the opposite of what the writer claimed then!Grin

FannyCann · 12/05/2020 23:56

Oh right, I've belatedly discovered the infamous K&W wedding hat being likened to a toilet seat - I never made a connection before!Grin

The girls must have a room full of once worn hats. What on earth do they do with them all?

In fact, money aside, I've never really got the whole thing of never wearing the same hat outfit twice. (Or being praised for thrift if you do wear something twice). It must get so tedious, endlessly choosing and planning outfits. And sometimes, a particularly lovely dress must surely give pleasure to wear and a desire to wear it again, and again?

miri1985 · 13/05/2020 01:38

If the Scobie book isn't authorised I'm assuming that "those closest to the couple" won't actually be named apart from vaguely like in the people article. If no one is willing to put their names to things, I don't understand how it has any more credence than the unnamed sources the tabloids use.

StartupRepair · 13/05/2020 02:38

It is hard to imagine what revelations in the book are going to justify the way they treated HMQ. The tabloids were harsh but there was always going to be accountability. I suspect m does not do well with criticism rather than adulation and she sees any criticism as a great wrong done to her.

TinRoofRusty · 13/05/2020 02:55

You have to wonder, because given that William will inherit the Duchy of Cornwall and, well, probably a lot one day, it doesn't really make sense to piss off your brother when you can't make ends meet and he holds the purse strings. Also by the time he eventually does, his children will be well into adulthood with children of their own and Harry like some second thought.

TinRoofRusty · 13/05/2020 02:58

And it appears he has greatly fallen out with his brother.

ARoseInHarlem · 13/05/2020 03:12

Way behind on this thread. The Tyler Perry house loan has to be something like: they’re doing a programme with Oprah, TP is a producer and friends with Oprah, he’s probably putting some money up for it, they wanted to leave Vancouver Island but very few places they could stay safely, so TP offered his empty house as part of his financial contribution. Doubt it has much to do with sponging or whatever: it’ll be a hard and harsh business decision. H&M are fodder to the likes of Oprah and TP. They’re “poor”, and the only thing they have going for them is their royal status. Really there’s nobody else who falls into the poor*-but-A list-famous, than royalty.

  • poor of course being relative. Until quite recently members of the British RF were amongst the richest in the world. The recent explosion in the gap between rich and poor, and the stratospheric rise and concentration of wealth amongst the mega-wealthy has left the RF mediocrely wealthy.
TinRoofRusty · 13/05/2020 03:22

Quite right, Rose. Neither Tyler nor Oprah are as rich as they are for being stupid, either, or throwing tantrums or playing victims. Whatever deal they cut them, I can guarantee theirs will be far greater. Meghan is nowhere in the league of Serena Williams, whose personal wealth far eclipses Harry's and was gained by her own talent and business acumen, yet another talent, she's worth about a quarter of a billion in her own right. The Kardasian sisters even far overcome her in that.

Unless Meghan knew him in US, I doubt they would have any particular insights into Prince Andrew's personal activities. He's going to be discussing any of it with his nephew or at general family gatherings

iVampire · 13/05/2020 07:01

The girls must have a room full of once worn hats. What on earth do they do with them all?

The various total children (whether titles or not) probably have amazing dressing up boxes!

The house loan is probably for duration of pandemic, as CV has chucked a whacking great spanner into everyone’s plans. So if the owner is holed up somewhere else for the duration, then it’s not much cost to him to let someone else use it. And as their whereabouts has (unfortunately)been leaked, I guess it reinforces the idea that the recipients of the generosity are well accepted by that slice of rich A list.
