New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

What questions would you like answered or tit bits revealed in the new book. I know we won't be hearing the full story just their spin on it. I'd like to know:

Exactly what they think they did to make the monarchy modern? All I can see is that they preferred to release information on instagram instead of using the royal rota?

And what really went down before the commonwealth service to make Harry scowl like a serial Killer and Meghan have that creepy grin fixated the entire time..... I find it fascinating that they had complete opposite reactions to whatever it was and choose opposite ways to project it.

ToastedHaMSandwich · 12/05/2020 19:02

I think they viewed it as a competition for the most ‘likes’ individually rather than members of what is already a global institution. The RF already raise awareness of a diverse range of both well known and little known causes. They highlight amazing charitable deeds of individuals.

So I hope the book will explain what extra they thought it needed

A real modern monarchy is probably no monarchy at all! Or perhaps their take was more glamour and glitz and Hollywoodness. Funnily enough I think their take on it was thoroughly backward and not modern at all as they seemed determined to lecture us on how we should all be living our lives. And the people revolted and didn't like it (but in a thoroughly modern way!)

Actually, although all the houses are wonderful day to day quite dull, meeting people and making small talk, endless processions and church services and protocol. No thanks!

The US magazines are way worse than anything the British media are saying.

MrsJoshNavidi · 12/05/2020 19:23

I'd quite like a breakdown of a normal day chez Sussex.

What do they do all day?

WinnieTheW0rm · 12/05/2020 19:26

As awful as the tabloids are they tend to be positive about the children so privacy for Archie's sake just seems like jumping up and down to make a noise

That'll be the British tabloids and their various deals with the RF, and they are unacceptable to H&M (as they said in writing only a week or two ago)

Instead they get the (unfettered) LA paparazzi to contend with. Though it seems they feed tragedy jagazines rather than tabloids. I wonder if that difference in outlet actually makes a difference to levels of intrusion and types of story that gain common currency?

Viviennemary · 12/05/2020 19:29

I wonder what their daily life is like too MrsJosh. I wonder if Meghan has mega tantrums like the press says or if she is all sweetness and light to Harry and the staff. I'd imagine she is very hard to please.

MeridasWisp · 12/05/2020 19:49

I took it to mean the monarchy should have some income that isn't from the state so they can give independent opinions and aren't always thinking of where the money comes from

Yes this is what Charles meant. The monarch is supposed to be independent from the government, which it won't be if the government holds the monarch's purse strings.

MrsJoshNavidi · 12/05/2020 19:52

I'd like to know who gets up to Archie in the night. Who changes his nappies. Who cooks. Who shops.
How often do they meet their PR team and what do they b talk about.
Do the security eat with them or who cooks for them.
Who does the washing and ironing. Do they drive themselves when they go out or does someone drive them (do they go out?), how often does H call home, and does M see her mum regularly.........

ArchePenguin · 12/05/2020 19:58

And who sprays the Febreeze around the house in case it smells of poopy diapers.

mooching · 12/05/2020 20:01

I would think that they don't leave everything to a nanny or staff. Diana was a very loving mum and I would think H is too. Without any work to fill your days (other than maybe chatting to your friends on the phone about your thoughts) there isn't much to do so I except they're probably spending quite a bit of time with Archie, in between yoga and prepping for court. Wink

mooching · 12/05/2020 20:02

And of course beautifully written letters. How could I forget that!

ButteryPuffin · 12/05/2020 20:08

This talk of buying somewhere with a 'granny annexe' for Doria - is this for weekend stopovers, or is this suggesting that Doria would move in with them permanently? I would be very wary of that in Doria's shoes.

ButteryPuffin · 12/05/2020 20:13

Hope Dandy is ok. I haven't heard anything from her, so hope she is just resting a lot.

Winterlife · 12/05/2020 20:38

Doria has her own house, and a partner, so I doubt there would be a need for a granny annex in any home.

UkuleleRose · 12/05/2020 20:51

Are Scobie and Durand the same person?

mooching · 12/05/2020 20:53

I think the granny flat for doria is just the tabloids making silly assumptions. Just because it has a granny flat doesn't mean you're going to put granny in it!

mooching · 12/05/2020 20:55

Scobie is a 30 year old that looks like a pre teen who worked for Heat magazine.

Durand is a middle aged blonde lady.

Not that I had heard of either before the book announcement.

NewNNsoShootMe · 12/05/2020 21:01

The woman who married Harry was always going to get a poisoned chalice

ArchePenguin · 12/05/2020 21:37

Omid Scobie produces a podcast called The Heirpod. It’s actually quite good and yes, he discusses THE book which he has been working on for two yearsZ

Oldbutstillgotit · 12/05/2020 22:01

According to the DM , M wants the biography published earlier than August as she is fed up with the negative stories about her

Winterlife · 12/05/2020 22:03

HAHA. I can hardly wait to read the DM's "take" on the book. I'm fairly certain it won't be positive.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/05/2020 22:08

The monarch is supposed to be independent from the government, which it won't be if the government holds the monarch's purse strings

With Charles as monarch it would actually suit me just fine for the government to keep hold of the purse strings - he's enough of a loose cannon as it is, without being given yet more chances to go off piste

miri1985 · 12/05/2020 22:10

Actually, although all the houses are wonderful day to day quite dull, meeting people and making small talk, endless processions and church services and protocol. No thanks!

Same, theres no way in a month of Sundays I could tolerate day in, day out of small talk, protocol, loss of privacy etc.

I sympathise with Harry wanting out and getting out but Meghan went in as someone in their mid thirties knowing what the job was, I do not believe that she was so head over heels in love with Harry that she had to marry him regardless of the reality of royalty. Also I think from the statements that Harry gave he never wanted to stay in the RF and IMHO should have refused the fancy wedding, Sussex title and place in the order of succession for Archie.

I keep thinking of the Sussexes like this guy I worked with who first day on the job suggested all these time saving, cost saving ideas and was royally peeved off when it was explained that all of those ideas had been tried before but weren't possible because of health and safety, software limitations etc. and proceeded to sulk until he quit after 3 weeks and then tried to get his job back a month later but it was filled

ButteryPuffin · 12/05/2020 22:52

If the story about the Queen offering Meghan the chance to marry in but not take a title and continue working as an actress, that was a fantastic deal and one she was very foolish to decline. Clearly they thought they could have their cake and eat it.
