New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

thanks for that link. I'm not inherently anti-monarchy, but the sheer greed and grabbiness has made me feel sick

You're very welcome over the link, but spare a thought ... I am anti monarchy, so you can imagine what it does to me!!

Allflightscancelled · 12/05/2020 13:14

I can only imagine, puzzled

To be fair, my stomach did a backflip when I saw the Queen Mother's abominable dress and matching handbag. And it only went downhill from there Grin

TinRoofRusty · 12/05/2020 13:57

They really ought to feel bad for managing to blag off so many people at the same time - Charles, American millionaires, Russian oligarchs, the British taxpayer..

Oh, believe me, they don't. Harry is clueless, and both he and Meghan have a huge sense of entitlement. They want the flashy life but they don't have that much money, they're showing themselves to be professional moochers.

TimeLady · 12/05/2020 14:09

This won't seem like a flashy life to Harry. He grew up in palaces & grand country houses.

Allflightscancelled · 12/05/2020 15:06

Blimey, those tabloid headlines are fierce. I'm a former PR person (though I didn't really do PR for individuals, except one time ) and if I had to deal with this kind of publicity I'd be on my knees

SunbathingDragon · 12/05/2020 15:33

I think the RF have played a blinder in terms of PR as regards how little they cost us every year by breaking it down to a cost per person.

If Charles gets his way with his slimmed down monarchy, his PR will be working overtime to rephrase it.

FannyCann · 12/05/2020 15:36

The handbag!!! It's like something one's DD rooted out of the dressing up box and added a bit more glitter glue and sprinkles to for extra effect. Grin

(Using a Royal one there).

MissEliza · 12/05/2020 15:39

I'd be curious to know what the American media and public actually think of the pair of them.

Allflightscancelled · 12/05/2020 15:40

FannyCann It is! No self-respecting girl over the age of about 5 would be seen dead with it.

wombandovaries · 12/05/2020 15:58

Have you all made those articles up? You know there’s no tabloid press in America Hmm

Regarding Fergie, She’s always reminded me of a chocolate Labrador, I think a PP mentioned galumphing about and causing havoc whilst not really realising why or how it was their fault... people will be far more forgiving of inadvertent havoc causing than strategic havoc causing.

Silly buggers they are. They could have had a life us plebs could only aspire to. Now they are out there hustling with the rest of us. Mind boggled.

*The reality is best summed up by Prince Charles himself, when he said: ‘I think it of absolute importance that the monarch should have a degree of financial independence from the State… I am not prepared to take on the position of sovereign of this country on any other basis.’

Which is to say that the State should provide him with copious amounts of public money, free from taxation – or other irritations such as accountability.*

Did anyone else read this in a different way from the author? I took it to mean the monarchy should have some income that isn't from the state so they can give independent opinions and aren't always thinking of where the money comes from.

Let's try that again...

Me too

Looks like those pesky non-tabloids in Australia aren't being entirely positive either

Last one for today. Now the Globe is described as a 'supermarket tabloid' based out of Florida, but surely that can't be right?

Just reading that Catherine and Sophie were making phone calls to nurses in different countries today - all looked very friendly . It struck me that Meghan could have been a welcome addition to such events .

Nanasueathome · 12/05/2020 17:18

I’ve just had a quick look at the H&M positive thread
They are seeing things completely different and seen quite deluded

Hamsterian · 12/05/2020 17:30

They remain deluded as ever. I don’t know what would make them open their eyes! It’s clear they are in a minority however.

RosesandIris · 12/05/2020 17:35

It actually looks like the US tabloids are even worse than here actually. I wonder if they are aware of it?

OP posts:
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 12/05/2020 17:39

They're entitled to their view. It's more of a fan perspective but it doesn't do anybody any harm. The tone of the current thread is a lot more constructive than when they were just complaining about the other H&M threads. Hopefully they are happier now they've found their tribe.

BarleylemonPenguin · 12/05/2020 17:39

I wonder if the see-through screens are part of M's 'privacy' long game that her lawyers will allude to in the courtcase? Other than this, I can't think of a single reason for these ludicrous fences, in Frogmore, Canada and LA. How can anyone who is compos mentis not look at these scenarios as batshit crazy?

mooching · 12/05/2020 18:17

Those privacy screens are ridiculous as you can still see through them Confused It very much supports their 'we want privacy but want everything on our own terms and only to be thought of and written about as the best and most popular couple in the world'.

If they had really wanted privacy it would have been entirely possible. Look at Mike and Zara, who are both independently famous sports people as well as the royal connection. They seem to lead relatively 'normal' lives, work hard etc. Even K&W mostly have control of how much their children are seen/in the press, especially as Kate is main photographer. As awful as the tabloids are they tend to be positive about the children so privacy for Archie's sake just seems like jumping up and down to make a noise. This just highlights that H&M do not wish to have a 'normal' life; they want to be seen in one light and have something entirely different. For instance, they want to be seen to be liking/thinking and supporting important global/moral issues (environmental issues, privacy) but this doesn't go hand in hand with what they actually want (glamour, to be revered and for the public to adore them so much that they follow their advice on being healthy and lowering their own carbon footprint).
