New thread

Has anyone seen that Lady Colin Campbell has written a book on Harry and Meghan using insider information. Apparently she’s has members of the Markle family to stay. She’s brave!

I do wonder if Harry actually has a lot more money than we know. Both the Queen and Prince Philip are getting on in years and I would assume they've both done what the QM did and have already given their estates away to their Grandchildren years before they die so that there isn't an estate tax.

I still don't think he can have the money to live a Hollywood lifestyle they seem to aspire to long term unless they start earning

TimeLady · 12/05/2020 07:33

Tsk, those pesky Daily Mail-reading hikers and UK paparazzi with their long lens camera and drones, spying on them in their hilltop abode.

Oh wait....

RosesandIris · 12/05/2020 08:31

They're definitely going to be Andrew and Fergie mark 2, only without any deference and with even less sense.

Has anyone else noticed Facebook is absolutely flooded with 'positive' Harry and Meghan articles? So much so, I'm wondering if they are being paid to do so? It's articles from sources like The Daily Star, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan etc.
Then underneath if you look at the public comments, they are really scathing.
Is this a thing, to pay for positive articles, or are these publications genuinely this sycophantic towards H&M?

ajandjjmum · 12/05/2020 09:40

Me too TimeLady - wouldn't be big enough for them though!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/05/2020 09:58

I would assume (HM and Philip have) done what the QM did and have already given their estates away to their Grandchildren years before they die so that there isn't an estate tax

I get the principle, but why bother? The Queen Mother claimed that stunt with a load of her jewellery to avoid tax, only for most of it to be found still in her cupboards after her death ... and needless to say HMRC disregarded it

thenightsky · 12/05/2020 10:29

That ex-Jenner beach house is perfect - for me!

Binglebong · 12/05/2020 10:29

Some of those shots show the screens being pretty see through. They'll help but why not get properly opaque ones?

Justmuddlingalong · 12/05/2020 10:39

Re the screens. They don't want to be seen to be wanting to be seen. But they do want to be seen. 😁

Winterlife · 12/05/2020 10:43

Those screens will probably be blown away by the canyon winds.

7Worfs · 12/05/2020 10:44

Re the screens. They don't want to be seen to be wanting to be seen. But they do want to be seen.

Grin Spot on.

ajandjjmum · 12/05/2020 11:00

Puzzled - where have you seen about the QM's jewellery being left in cupboards? I'd never heard that.

ArchePenguin · 12/05/2020 11:03

Now THIS is going to be awkward next year.

Will Meghan will want to go?

William is patron of BAFTA.

Binglebong · 12/05/2020 11:09

I was trying not to say that!

MissEliza · 12/05/2020 11:11

@Inspiralcarpetry I did notice that but they seemed to have tailed off recently.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/05/2020 11:24

ajandjjmum the thing about the "jewellery found in the QM's cupboards" was included in Norman Baker's "And What Do You Do?" ... a recommended read

Obviously I can't link the actual book, but with due apologies for it being the DM, a lot of the contents are here: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7566439/Where-did-Princess-Margaret-20m-Queen-mothers-70m-legacy.html

Regarding Harry having more money than we know of, I remember Earl Spencer (Diana's father) saying that he was leaving money to Harry because William would inherit megabucks and Harry needed money also. I would imagine Earl Spencer left him a substantial sum.

Allflightscancelled · 12/05/2020 12:11

Puzzledandpissedoff thanks for that link. I'm not inherently anti-monarchy, but the sheer greed and grabbiness has made me feel sick

TimeLady · 12/05/2020 12:30

I doubt if any inheritance from Johnny Spencer was huge. He had several grandchildren besides Harry, much of his wealth would be tied up in Althorp which was passed on to Charles, and seemingly a wife who flogged off the family treasures....

In his book about Althorp, published in 1998, Earl Spencer accused Raine of "selling off 100 years of family history" during a period dubbed the "Raine of terror".

www.standard.co.uk/news/earl-spencer-a-500000-painting-dug-up-on-his-estate-and-questions-the-taxman-might-ask-6606892.html

I met Diana's dad once, happily signing bottles of Althorp-branded sherry in the gift shop. I bought one for my mum!

FannyCann · 12/05/2020 12:32

Oh dear. Headlines not looking good. Another magazine has a cover story about Archie and the cousins he will never know.

I think the RF have played a blinder in terms of PR as regards how little they cost us every year by breaking it down to a cost per person.

Its an amazing piece of spin it makes the amount seem palatable as who would begrudge £1.24 a year but leaves out all the tax breaks, income from what should be State lands, security etc.

TimeLady · 12/05/2020 13:03

And from the US tabloids this week...

iVampire · 12/05/2020 13:05

I’ve always rather assumed that the younger Royals scored huge cheques as wedding presents. It’s one of the times when even ordinary people are allowed to make substantial gifts to adult (grand)children. So those for whom tax is voluntary might use the same occasion and do it even bigger
