Hasn't Prince Harry learnt anything from his mother's experience of having someone write her biography 'to set the record straight'? Couldn't they have at least waited until after his grandmother's death, however long that might be?

Charlotte looks so much like The Queen. Which is odd because I've seen photo's where she looks a lot like William as a child and I always think William looks like Diana and Charles (Althorp).

I think someone needs to step in now, and just calm this down. I am actually rather concerned about the consequences of all this on a wider scale in terms of its impact on public life, the Monarchy and the structure of the British state.

It might be have been morally wrong at the time but it's over (Kate had naked photos printed and she rode it out with shocking grace). They're back in LA and could even discreetly repair things with him if they really want to. He has never even seen his own grandchild FFS.

The DM are having a field day with this story and you can't blame them. You can feel the glee behind each headline pitting the Cambridges against Sussexes. I'm actually morbidly curious to see how they treat that photo of Archie on his birthday. PP is right, they are going to be slowly ripped to shreds by the press but they brought so much of it on themselves.

The 5 friends thing has ended in a shitting disaster. You can imagine how eager those 5 were to give that interview, riding the hype train of the upcoming wedding and H&M's global popularity. It was probably all glam, harmless positive PR, and they must be royally (har har) pissed off to be roped into a court case three years later.

Just randomly, anyone else irrationally annoyed by how Harry texts? A 33 year old man using "u" instead of "you"...really?! And the way he writes, no depth at all on a very serious subject. It's like he's just jotting down the first thought to appear in his mind and shot the text off in a hurry. Maybe it really is true that he isn't as bright as many think and has been hugely protected by the RF over the years.

I think we all had generally forgotten it until they took the court case and have made it a topic of conversation for probably years. I think most people recognised TM as a toxic person and I have to say I didn't think MM came across badly in the letter,TM came across badly for betraying his daughters confidence.

The fact that they left it so long after the publication to take the case leads me to believe that the reason that they took the case was because they were looking to take a case because they hadn't liked the media criticism of them that summer, the wimbledon nonsense, the secret godparents, the multiple private planes and holidays while preaching eco issues. I think they wanted to give "the media" a rap on the knuckles and this was the best way to do it.

I think trying to claim that MM had a warm relationship with TM before all this makes her look worse not better because she never checked on him after the wedding even though he was in the hospital and he really hadn't done anything other than sell some photos before that. Hes proven himself to be a snake since then and I personally wouldn't be in contact if a parent was badmouthing me to the press but I think trying to put all the blame for this on the media makes her look shallow.

I think the first question on the stand to MM will be have you ever sold a story? Which I would be incredibly surprised if she hadn't over the years and if she says she has then even if she wins the copyright claim they're done for in the court of public opinion.

If they're smart they'll settle the rest of this for an undisclosed sum so people can claim that they won and they will save themselves from testifying

On the point of Harry being forced abroad, the day Meghan left for Canada, someone posted a photo of her on another thread and she was not wearing her wedding ring. She also didn’t wear her ring the day after they announced they would be stepping down whilst on a trip to the theatre. Maybe it means nothing. But I wonder.

I thought that had been tried, but MOS declined to settle. Or have I just imagined that? Anyone know how long before the actual trial will begin? What happens about juries during COVID restrictions?

I think it's the other way around Winnie. The MOS offered to settle out of court a few weeks ago and they refused.

I wouldn't be able to name my sources, only that I live in an area that has lots of members of the RF and things tend to leak quietly, and always have done. This came up before christmas.

Harry asked the Queen for help because MM was struggling so much living in the UK and was not happy, the marriage was under a great deal of strain.
Anyone will tell you that breaking into English aristocratic circles, and understanding how they work was always going to be an uphill struggle for someone like Meghan who simply didn't understand them (or try to). I imagine she thought she could breeze in and be adored, but it doesn't work like that. It was one thing to marry PH quite another to convince those in royal circles that she was up to the task or fit to be a duchess, she would have felt very much the outsider, at the polo matches, shoots, hunts etc.

Although I believe her to be calculating and manipulative, I also understand why she may have struggled with it all, and it is entirely possible far from being over confident, she was out of depth much of the time here, her own values and thoughts silenced. I don't believe this situation is entirely her fault, she was never going to enjoy the hunting given her feeling on animal cruelty, the braying polo matches, the old traditions and the endless dull duties. It was never going to work.

No doubt she will be back in her happy place in Malibu, but it comes at a price for Harry. A hefty sacrifice that he has made, and one that he now has to carry alone.

I agree Ihaveno. Why would someone like Serena risk her reputation and everything she's worked for?

I think it will take much, much more than Harry and Meghan flouncing off to Hollywood to rock the RF. If anything the view I believe is one of relief. MM was a liability, and Harry always has been.
Prince Charles has been trying to slimline the family for years. The fact that H&M have now gone only makes this easier for them, perhaps it would have been better if this had happened without the drama, but nonetheless the Queen's support both here and around the world means she is untouchable.

Just a reminder, if anyone's interested, that H-as-I-call-him is on Channel 5 at 9am today reading Thomas the Tank.

Obviously I'm tuning in for DS's obsession with Thomas and not because I want to see H's general demeanour.

I don't think that the removal of her rings necessarily means anything. I've taken all mine off since COVID, for instance, in case they harbour germs. Been wearing them non-stop for 25 years.

I've seen it alleged both ways that H&M and also the MOS have asked for the case to be dropped, so who knows?

I also asked my kids (early 20s) if they used text-speak such as "u" when messaging. They gave me the biggest eye-roll and said "no, because we're not 13."

But then what happens when HM in the not too distant future is no longer around? I don’t think PC will inspire the same amount of loyalty.

Biscuit it’s the nuances of British life that perhaps Meghan didn’t seem (or perhaps want) to understand. When you fall in love you think everything will work out, but marriage is about compromise & more so when coming from 2 different cultures.

I also wonder if the issue about Harry dropping his mates is perhaps down to the fact that their wives didn't fully embrace Meghan??
