I think it's worth saying that women who find themselves in the public eye by virtue of dating or being married to a public figure, and dare to comment about things themselves, have a rough time.
I mean, do people remember the frankly vicious coverage of Cherie Blair back in the day? Journalists wrote books about how bonkers she was with her crystals and the such like, as though she were some sort of "leylines power the energy of Gaia" Saturday mystic.
It even happens to people who have never been connected to state or political power: JK Rowling had people camped in a field with long range lenses outside her home.
