I have no idea. The main thing I notice is the hope that she and Harry just shut up and don't do anything at all. Or that when they do anything it's attention seeking/publicity thirsty/thunder stealing.

Pick any of the above!!

Roussette · 03/05/2020 11:07

I saw the clip this morning. Kate has always been well spoken by ye gods she sounded posh this morning! Yes she had spent a day with the maternity nurses bfore lockdown so made sense I s'pose, but it would be my worst nightmare.

I could not in a million years imagine Meghan doing it without being absolutely harangued.

mrscampbellblackagain · 03/05/2020 11:10

I guess both Kate and Meghan just continuing to work with their charities/causes.

I wouldn't want a facetime with either of them personally but get some people would.

BigFatSoo · 03/05/2020 11:17

Somehow Kate always sounds so much posher than any of the other royals - how does that happen?!

Cerseirys · 03/05/2020 11:21

I always think her accent sounds a tad forced.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 03/05/2020 11:41

I know plenty of women who speak like Kate. Plenty of my dcs friends do as well, I imagine due to the school they went to. Dh’s family often comment how posh my dcs sound, I can’t hear it myself 🤷🏻‍♀️

CallmeAngelina · 03/05/2020 11:41

I like (what I know of) Kate very much, but I always wince when I hear her speak. Tone it down a bit! She sounds posher than the Queen and not in a good way.

CallmeAngelina · 03/05/2020 11:45

It's interesting about children's accents vs their parents.
My children both speak quite 'well,' but went to ordinary state schools where many of their friends had "ordinary" accents. I can only assume they picked it up from me, as people say I sound posh.
Yet my friend from Liverpool, who has now lived in the US for over 15 years still sounds Scouse, but her kids sound as American as they come - although their US friends think they still sound British.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 03/05/2020 11:45

My dcs old head & deputy heads sounded posher than the Queen.

Cerseirys · 03/05/2020 11:49

I know @CanIHaveAPenguinPlease but her sister and brother, who went to the same school and moved in similar circles, don't sound like that! It just doesn't sound very natural to me, and I'm
not referring to her social class. Diana and Fergie sounded very upper class but never forced.

Or maybe William does the opposite of "poshing up". I heard him refer to how George enjoys "drawring" and is a good "drawrer" recently Shock

why make it public though? wouldn't it have been nicer if it had been kept private?

Roussette · 03/05/2020 12:11

I think my DCs speak quite well but not posh at all. I do think Kate's has got more cut glass as time has gone on. Whereas the Queen's accent/voice has toned down enormously.

ButteryPuffin · 03/05/2020 12:23

How else would you say 'drawing' other than 'drawring'? #notposh

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 03/05/2020 12:26

I’ve asked for my last post to be deleted as I know my friend is on MN.

It’s ‘draw-ing’ no ‘r’

Samcro · 03/05/2020 12:52

i talked very posh when I was little......then I went to school

mrscampbellblackagain · 03/05/2020 13:11

Kate talks like lots of people I know. Also, I know I sound a lot posher when recorded than in real life.

Samcro - assume the woman was happy for it to be public. I think they all do quite a lot of private stuff but then of course they get criticised for not doing enough if people can't 'see' what they are doing. I don't think they can win really.

And by they I mean any in the RF.

Roussette · 03/05/2020 13:21

mrscampbell you must move in very esteemed circles Grin
No one I know talks like that and I do know some people who are v posh !

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 03/05/2020 13:26

She does sound like a few people I met when a student. They were few and far between and usually at a ball of some sort. She does sound incredibly 'posh' or well spoken, as my mother would say.

I'm very Scottish. Not Glaswegian but have a strong Scottish accent.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 03/05/2020 13:28

My dcs say I have a “telephone voice” which apparently I also use depending on who I’m talking to. It must be subconscious as I’ve no idea I’m doing it.

mrscampbellblackagain · 03/05/2020 14:15

I just think her voice is fairly typical of privately educated women [generalising a lot I know] Wink

But I think the criticism of her voice being too posh is linked to how people used to comment on Carol being 'doors to manual' - a bit, know your place Kate.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/05/2020 14:15

Interesting comments re Kate's accent. I thought she sounded less "clipped" than usual and I put that down to her being much more relaxed when speaking in these situations. I think she gets nervous under the spotlight and clenches up a bit. Willian accelerates his speech when he's nervous.

derxa · 03/05/2020 15:08

But I think the criticism of her voice being too posh is linked to how people used to comment on Carol being 'doors to manual' - a bit, know your place Kate. I was just thinking that.

Samcro · 03/05/2020 18:00

She does sound very posh. But I imagine if you are moving in the circles she does you would want to sound like them.

LittleBearPad · 03/05/2020 18:12

She did go to Marlborough. I doubt she had to learn not to say haitch or remember her t’s!
