I agree. At times, I sympathise with both of them. Up to a point.

As for W&K working hard, I'm sure they'll manage, it's not exactly a life of drudgery is it?

FiveOutOfFiveGoldblums · 02/05/2020 18:35
  1. Meghan had no bloody choice other than to beam throughout the commemoration service - all tabloid eyes were on her and waiting for one moment, one second where they could write the story as she was bored to be there/disrespectful/hating the UK. I felt for her, her jaw must have been aching like it was the world's longest blow job
  2. Allegedly Dan Wooton and Christian Jones, the communications/press secretary for Kensington Palace are/were very close hence the exclusives.
  3. A bad taste nazi outfit won't fit into Germany's Vergangenheitsbewältigung but nor is it the bloody crime of the century for a 20 year old whose grandfather has said much worse.
I'm only really here for the cupcakes Cake Wine
Roussette · 02/05/2020 18:42
  1. Exactly. One sombre or downturned face and she would have been criticised endlessly. Never mind that K looked like the Ice Queen. What I've said for all eternity Meghan can't do right for doing wrong
  2. Interesting
  3. Yep. There's lots the RF do we don't hear about also.
Samcro · 02/05/2020 18:45

Gosh was he 20
And people still drag it up.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 02/05/2020 18:53

Roussette I'm watching Normal People. It's absolutely beautiful and incredibly moving.

Froq · 02/05/2020 18:55

The prince made sure it was celebrated his way, ordering the royal family — including his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II — to ditch the usual formal state function in favor of an African-themed costume party at Windsor Castle.

William, who is teaching himself Swahili and has been on safari in Africa several times, said he wanted to avoid a "sterile" official function and have his relatives let their hair down.

Hmm how awful.

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/05/2020 18:57

I totally get why Meghan smiled all through her last appearances - and kudos to her for that.

Honestly, she did a way better job than Harry did. She turned up, she looked great and she smiled.

Agree Roussette that none of them exactly have a 'hard' life really compared to the vast majority of the population.

I just want them to wear some nice frocks and not really speak though as I don't think any of them really have a lot to say as none of them are experts in any field apart from being born into the right family or marrying into the right family.

thisenglishlife · 02/05/2020 19:01

Dan Wootton (executive editor of The Sun newspaper and host of talkRADIO's drivetime show) is a university friend of one of their staff

Am I alone in not thinking that Harry looked that miserable? He was smiling, genuinely, at times (as well as also doing so when told to by Meghan as they entered, and it was fair she said that imo). It was a solemn occasion and I thought his expressions seemed appropriate for the segments I saw. I didn’t watch a lot of it though.

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/05/2020 19:08

Did you all see Mr Wootton's clap back to the Sussexes letter to the 4 tabloids - it was quite well done Wink

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/05/2020 19:10

To be fair kate had years of horrid press about her, topless photos and also she was really stalked physically by the paps before she was officially part of the RF.

None of the women who marry in are treated well. I mean how many years is Kate into this now? And I would say she has only had decent press recently and still there are loads of people who want to criticise her work ethic, her clothes, what she dresses her children in etc.

The life of a royal spouse is not for the feint hearted for sure.

Roussette · 02/05/2020 19:15

@SetPhasersTaeMalkie
I know. This is Connor's first major part and he nailed it. Wonderful acting

Samcro · 02/05/2020 19:20

Its odd how its the woman that get a hard time.

thisenglishlife · 02/05/2020 19:23

@mrscampbellblackagain
The pap stalking of Kate was disgusting

Roussette · 02/05/2020 19:27

I'm sure there's not a poster on this thread who disagrees with that. It's not right

Dandyish · 02/05/2020 19:32

I've been meaning to read 'Normal People' for over a year. I read her other novel and loved it but was slightly tiring of the style in which it was written by the end. (Excellent writer though.) Friends said 'Normal People' was a similar style and quite same-y, which put me off. Great to now have the option to watch it!

mrscampbellblackagain · 02/05/2020 19:33

misogyny innit.

People wanted to pit Kate and Meghan against each other and to be fair their fans really bought into it. And I find that really sad, when women want to attack other women without questioning who is stirring up this shit.

I mean Zara's husband - didn't he get up to some dodgy stuff but was all just passed off as well he's a rugby lad.

Where as Kate or Meghan dare to not wear tights or wear a too short skirt and they are eviscerated by the press and other women.

It is baffling.

Objectively Kate and Meghan are both extremely attractive women but lordy the comments I have read in the press on here about both their looks are just shocking.

I don't always love what either of them wear although I am very glad that Kate is over the lk bennett wedge years Wink but come on, they are both gorgeous.

Roussette · 02/05/2020 19:51

Yes they are both gorgeous, agree.

Dandyish my DD read the book as part of a book club, and is going to watch the series. We've done our chat about it and there are some differences, but I think I've done it the right way round... series before book, which I intend to read

Samcro · 02/05/2020 20:47

It was the same back in the diana/sarah days. You would think we would have moved on from that now.
Meghan comes across imo as an intelligent grown up woman. I can only imagine having to suddenly take second place to another woman in every thing must have been hard to handle. I know its the way the rf work, but I don't think anyone would cope well with that.
Add in yiur husband has to do the same. Can't be easy.
(Just me musing)

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 02/05/2020 21:05

IMO no different for example, to people who have a line manager, regional manager, until you get to the CEO of the organisation.

Samcro · 02/05/2020 21:15

Am watching a film with chris hemsworth in it, gosh he has grown since his home and away days.

You cannot be serious comparing the rf with a proper company. Where you would get to the top job by earning it, not by birth or who you marry.
Sadly meghan would have been a real asset.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 02/05/2020 21:26

Genuinely why not Samcro? I worked for my family’s firm. My boss was my uncle. At work he was the boss. His wife also worked there in a managerial role. In work I was the employee. I worked under non family members who were my superiors. I was not his niece in my job, I was an employee. At family events I went back to being the niece. I don’t really see much of a difference tbh. Plenty of people work for the family firm.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 02/05/2020 21:27

Sorry - for their family firm.

thisenglishlife · 02/05/2020 21:33

I don't think Kate's real fans have done that, just those who originally didn't like Kate/were neutral about her. They now love Kate and use her as a shield to criticise Meghan.

You can also see this in tabloid newspaper article comment sections - a few years ago, Kate was constantly described by them as being lazy, girly, superficial, faking illness, boring, flashing, not independent, self promoting, unconfident, etc. Now they love her, Kate can't really do anything wrong and Meghan can't do anything right.

The newspapers see how they receive lots of engagement by bigging up some, whilst putting down others and then run with it. They thrive by doing that.

I was particularly disgusted when they quickly began changing the narrative and deleting/covering up negative past articles on the likes of Diana and Caroline Flack following their deaths.

Protocol innit? Either she's not that intelligent and didnt do her research properly, or H didn't explain it well enough. Who knows. But the point is, if you marry the spare rather than the heir, you're not going to be number one in the pecking order, no matter how much you think you should be.

And as for the book write-up on Amazon, dear god.
