Hope you don't mind Dave.

Eh?

I don't say that you on here are the "happy people", Roussette.

You have given yourselves that moniker, and it does not fit IMHO.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 24/04/2020 13:12

This is a happy thread for happy people

I'm coming over all Noel Coward/In Which We Serve - "this is a heppy ship!"

Roussette · 24/04/2020 13:14

Fair enough Myimaginary because yes, the positive people weren't necessarily there to get the thread pulled.

CatsAndOcelots · 24/04/2020 13:14

yolo

"This is a heppy thread"

Grin
Roussette · 24/04/2020 13:15

When I say 'you' I meant collectively.

CatsAndOcelots · 24/04/2020 13:15

Well, Roussette, there were certainly people on the anti-heppy threads whose aim was purely and simply to get the threads deleted.

Roussette · 24/04/2020 13:16

That was to Cats sorry

Roussette · 24/04/2020 13:17

Cats I don't know who, I can only speak for myself and that was never my intention.

ArriettyJones · 24/04/2020 13:23

this is a heppy ship!"

Smile
ArriettyJones · 24/04/2020 13:24

Yes - spoken a la Royston Vasey, eh?

Exactly Grin

ArriettyJones · 24/04/2020 13:26

That'll be me you're talking about then, as I've been here since dinosaurs roamed the earth

No, I wasn’t thinking of you. I had a vague impression you’d been more balanced than some. Maybe I’m not keeping score very well Smile

ButteryPuffin · 24/04/2020 13:32

So it's fine for regular posters from this thread to go onto other threads and 'correct' people's posts, or tell them their opinions are wrong, but this 'ere thread should be sacrosanct and no one should come on to do either of those things here?

Blossom517 · 24/04/2020 13:34

When you see awful negativity and nastiness (this cannot be denied) on thread after thread after thread

The large majority of posts are not nasty. Many are critical and negative, but that's allowed isn't it? You don't have to like it but posters are allowed to criticise people in the public eye, especially when they are spending public funds.

There is occasionally the odd nasty post and that rightfully gets deleted but that can be said about the 'happy' threads too.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 24/04/2020 13:38

In an attempt to get the thread on track, can I offer a positive comment? And you all know I'm a Meghansceptic as a rule.

MM came in with a great deal of energy, threw herself into a totally alien situation and worked her socks off. I think it's easy to forget that as things have unfolded. In the early days she was clearly trying to fit in, but it must have been very difficult. She is so much a product of her background and H is equally a product of his. So hats off to her for dealing with what must have been a terrifying situation with poise and grace even though she didn't always get it right.

I think it is sad how things have turned out as I believe they could have been so different.

CallmeAngelina · 24/04/2020 13:56

I agree with that, fleas.
But you know, I think I'm more pissed off with Harry than her, with the way things have turned out. His behaviour and attitude have been terrible and even if the underlying cause is mental health, it's somehow ended up with him alienating people who would o tv errors have been sympathetic (eg me!)

Roussette · 24/04/2020 14:04

Agree with your post catfleas. Such a shame and AFAIC they are a great loss to this country.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 24/04/2020 14:56

They could have made a great contribution, but imho they gave up ridiculously soon. Two years is nothing. When you see what ordinary people fight through, year after year, without giving up it is really galling that they’ve behaved in the way they did.

Mamamia456 · 24/04/2020 17:05

I agree, 2 years ago Prince Harry was the 2nd most popular royal after the Queen. Now he is the 4th popular after William and Kate. Harry and Meghan could have been a real asset to the Royal family.

I do think though that women have a much harder time being accepted, and Harry and Meghan would always have been compared to William and Kate.

LadyLightning · 24/04/2020 20:38

I agree, and the tone of the things written are still hateful. H&M may not be perfect, but who is? I saw the bit in the Daily Mail today about their texts to her father trying desperately to spin it to make them seem terrible - but completely failing to do so as they sounded reasonable and concerned in their messages to him.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 24/04/2020 22:22

I dont think anyone is expecting anyone else to be perfect...

But just a few observations:

In her Tig blog right up until she met H, M was posting about how much she loved her dad, how he'd influenced her life.

Those texts read, to me, as if someone was expecting them to be published at some time. Given that H hadnt even met TM they sound quite peremptory.

How could anyone expect someone to attend a royal wedding, with all the associated protocol/TV/global viewing without at least meeting the major protagonists and getting some advice, plus arriving at least a week in advance for rehearsals etc (they have the money...)

Tootreeticki · 25/04/2020 02:10

Royalty is drama. There needs to be shade in order to be light, and contrast. Media plays this shade and light and contrast for sales, and every now and then they switch. Horrible Margaret/Saintly Elizabeth, Cozy Charles/Sleazy Andrew, Glam Slim Di/Fat frump Fergie, Saint Di/Sinful Camilla, Dutiful William/Whiny Harry, Frugal Kate/Spendy Meghan, on and on it goes and will happen with William's children too when they grow out of being cute.

The actual thruth probably is far less exciting, with everyone having good days and bad days, making big and small mistakes and doing good, all over their lifetimes, trying to get by. But in public it is all spun as great drama. And for the stability of the country the actual heirs to the throne and the soverign get to have mistakes glossed over and airbrushed. While it is safe to react and overreact to anything the others might have said or done. Because if there was no drama, who'd sell all the papers?

areukiddingme · 25/04/2020 02:10

No

catinb0oots · 25/04/2020 08:50

Good post @tootreeticki

So true

eddiemairswife · 25/04/2020 09:10

It's a real-life, posh Coronation Street.

LaMarschallin · 25/04/2020 09:19

With actual coronations.
