I am really not sure about this. They "felt compelled" to share how the name came about and to announce their new venture but they're not releasing details because they want the focus to remain on the Covid crisis?

This is a mess. Full of contradiction. I finally admit that they have lost their way.

"Incan't believe they've launched their foundation now. Who on earth advises them?"

They haven't launched it. They've felt 'compelled' to talk about the name and some generalities about what it might do.

Even if about to leak, they did not have to respond by providing confirmation during a pandemic (and yes it is a bit off, from the British perspective, not to add a statement of sympathy for those affected by the disease, and support for those working and those whose lives turned upside down by restrictions)

I wouidn't have expected them to be making other statements about the pandemic otherwise - unless via their patronages. (Such as impact in Africa via Sentabele or on theatres by NT - or have those happened and I've just missed them? I'd be quite pleased if that were the case - stepping away from the press but continuing useful to their causes stated aims)

Probably feeling a little out of the limelight (although I thought that was what they wanted)

I don't have any issue with wanting to not be senior royals etc but I wish they would just fade into the background and live their life as they wish to....but it still feels very much "cake and eat it"

Great video link! Grin

That links also to... sorry if it's already been linked, I can't see that it has...

Their PR team got their PR titles by taking an online course 😁

Archewell - a tube station out on the far reaches of the northern line. Grin

ArchePenguin · 08/04/2020 08:17

We’ve been pronouncing it wrong all this time!

It’s Arch-at-Vell

Archewell sounds like a brand of foot support insole thing

Lordfrontpaw · 08/04/2020 08:21

I had shoes made by arche. Very sensible and comfy.

ArchePenguin · 08/04/2020 08:22

And apparently they are rumoured to be living here www.malibuluxuryrealty.com/living-in-malibu-serra-retreat/

A spiritualist retreat centre run by Franciscan priests. Father Ted would have loved it here.

If we ever see MM in these silver boots then we will know she got them for free.

I'm at a total loss as to how they can continually get it so wrong.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/04/2020 08:28

No idea if this has ever been floated before. But I’m wondering if the name Archie was purposefully chosen because of the link to monarchy.

Monarchy

French: Mon archy - my Arch(ie)

*As the sun rose on another blameless California morning, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took their daily turmeric shots boosted with raw ginger, naked opportunism and freshly squeezed brass neck.

Yet not even a pandemic can stop Harry and Meghan in their self-imposed, grandiose scheme to save the world, one worthy cause at a time...*

From the Jan Moir article. We really do have a case of the Emperor's New Clothes, and it's gradually being seen through.

BubblesBuddy · 08/04/2020 08:46

It’s never a good idea to choose a name for something and then have to explain how to pronounce it! Everyone will just assume it’s Arch E Well. Why wouldn’t they?

KayakingOnDown · 08/04/2020 08:54

Does anyone else think a lot of this drama is H fighting some secret battle with the press?

Yes I do. Except it's barely secret. Harry's irrational hatred for and vendetta against the British press has fuelled a lot of this - and Meghan has encouraged it. But a lot of it has been driven by him. He is a very angry young (actually not so young anymore) man.

He seems to think Britain is not a safe place in which to raise his son, because of the evil British press. A lot of the Sussex Royal website was a thinly veiled attack on the British press.

As the first half is the Greek word Arche then it should be pronounced Ark-e-well.

Who knows how they pronounce it though.
Maybe they’ll give online lessons.

BubblesBuddy · 08/04/2020 09:14

There is little press coverage or reported intrusion of the Cambridge children. Only when permitted, and that’s ok in my view. Photos at birthdays and landmark occasions.

I think Harry won’t accept that Diana courted the press too. She was also driven by a drunk driver. Admittedly with the paps in pursuit but it was Paris, and not the uk press. She was no longer HRH either and had no security, as far as I am aware. I would have thought Harry, if rational, would have preferred to stay here and keep high quality security in return for fairly light weight duties and keep his military connections. This irrational decision-making just lets everyone down.

Booboostwo · 08/04/2020 09:15

Well it depends on whether you go for the Greek pronunciation of Greek words or the British one.

The Greek is ar - xE. The X sound is not really part of the English phonics.

The British pronunciation is Ar - ke With the emphasis on the first rather than the second syllable.

All in all a right mess.

LawrenceMarlow · 08/04/2020 09:23

I was going for British pronunciation.
As in archetype and archeology.

KayakingOnDown · 08/04/2020 09:27

Before Sussex Royal, came the idea of Arche – the Greek word meaning source of action,’ said the Sussexes in a statement. ‘We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name.’

How crass. Even their son's name is related to their schemes, brands, PR and plans to make money.

Charlotteli · 08/04/2020 09:27

I find them so cringe. Just so embarrassing. Can’t stand either of them to be honest. They’re arrogant and self-obsessed and love the limelight. That’s the real reason they wanted to ‘leave’ the family. Why say you want a private life while trying to grab headlines?
They should’ve been told either you live a private life like the rest of us or you are a proper royal. No grey area

KonTikki · 08/04/2020 09:28

"The deep resources that we each must draw upon"
The only deep resources Harry and Megs have drawn upon are Prince Charles bank accounts ....

Now that is funny ! 😂

WaterIsWide · 08/04/2020 09:44

This^

It's exactly what I think too.

Diana had a bodyguard with her in the car when she died. He's the only survivor. I've read the book he wrote about the car crash. He admits he can't remember much of that night but it was still interesting to read.

Dodi had no time or patience for British V.I.P. protocol. He whined to his father to get one of Al Fayed's drivers behind the wheel that night in Paris. Henri Paul had already knocked off work and had been at the bar drinking when the order came late in the evening to drive Diana and Dodi home. Yes boss he must have said. He remarked to the waiting paparazzi, 'you won't catch us tonight.'

Why couldn't Diana and Dodi have stayed at the Ritz Hotel that night ? Surely that would have been posh enough. The last photo of Diana alive I find quite haunting. It's black and white security footage of her by a rear entrance, nearly midnight. Her hair had been bleached by the sun and the black and white security footage makes her look quite ghostly.

However, back on topic.

BubblesBuddy · 08/04/2020 09:46

Well it’s the reason Meghan wanted to leave. She wanted her own limelight. Harry doesn’t know what he wants. I have a suspicion that LA won’t be it. What on Earth is there that he values? Other then his wife and DS of course.
