Royals and American media coverage

ButteryPuffin · 04/04/2020 23:50

Saw this cover posted on Twitter and noted that it seems the tabloids do indeed exist in the US (amazing, huh?). This is pretty much what you'd expect from the source, and I think it's pretty deplorable, but I am interested to see how the American media in general cover the presence of the former royals who've now arrived to make their home there. Of course we can discuss their coverage of other Royals too and related topics. All welcome.

Link to cover story - please note I'm not endorsing it, I'm just sharing it:

Actually, they should do that...and their comms team ....like Jamie's restaurant, except for PR work. I suspect they could find and develop some real talent.

DD2 is studying PR at uni. She could do a better job... but of course the downside is that with clients like that no one actually wants the job! You can pretty much bet that any consultancy taking them on as clients will see them as a cash cow for 3-6 months and will then resign the account due to 'conflict of interest'.

ArriettyJones · 08/04/2020 12:43

Sounds like a pretty accurate analysis yolo

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 08/04/2020 13:10

love your name Arrietty is it from The Borrowers?

SenecaFallsRedux · 08/04/2020 13:16

There is nothing new or interesting in what you say: these arguments been rehashed literally thousands of times and they only serve to suck the life and interest out of discussions.

So have many, it not most, of the negative comments against Harry, and especially Meghan. Over and over again, thread after thread. Going back to things that happened two years ago. Again and again, thread after thread. Even when there was no real news coming from them, posters have kept up the negativity by continuing the attacks. Again and again, thread after thread.

A few of us have counter views that we wish to state in response to the negativity. So yes, we may repeat ourselves and our arguments. Again and again, thread after thread.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 08/04/2020 13:23

Now this could be interesting..

Prince William and Kate snap up staff behind @SussexRoyal success
mol.im/a/8199291

It's a DM link so feel free not to click, but the headline is they have employed the Sussexes' "digital communication lead" who had been made redundant when their office was closed. He ran their Instagram account and is credited with building the number of followers.

It could be a competitive move on the part of the Cambridges, or it might be a Palace solution to retaining the skills and goodwill of displaced staff.

Worth watching though.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 08/04/2020 13:27

Counter opinions are welcome, Seneca, but the very unpleasant way in which they are often expressed isn't. It seems difficult for some posters to state their case without descending into accusations and abusive language. That is what people find tiring.

SenecaFallsRedux · 08/04/2020 13:55

Abusive language is against talk guidelines so should be reported. But it's important not to confuse passionate debate with abuse.

OVienna · 08/04/2020 14:16

yolo HNWs - not always the best payers, nor cash cows (not just a comment pertaining to H&M but I'd be getting money up front here.)

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 08/04/2020 14:20

We are about to hit a new wave of impoverishment which could make austerity so far seem like the warm up act.

We need the RF pruned right back, so direct line only (though waiting for retirement age for the Princess Royal and the Wessexes, rather than abrupt severance). This does of course mean there will be fewer Royal charitable patronages (which personally I think is a great shame, but I've seen so many posts here saying that would be unimportant that I'm going with that view in times when we are broke)

Revenues of the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall could be redeployed so the Sovereign Grant can be (voluntarily) lowered (for a specific time)

The difference in cost between household security for household largely based in UK and working here, and the actual international costs should be borne by the couple, not the Duchy nor the taxpayer.

We shall all be too broke, with too many areas of life to be mended, to want anything spent on this.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 08/04/2020 15:06

Too right OV about HNW individuals being the worst payers...

lizzie1970a · 08/04/2020 15:36

Ditto!

E.g. Chrissel brought up the bump cradling and you chipped in, so then I chipped in with a counter argument. You're doing it too - thread after thread, not just the M "bashers" or whatever you want to call us.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 08/04/2020 15:45

You're doing it too - thread after thread, not just the M "bashers" or whatever you want to call us.

The question is, why?

lizzie1970a · 08/04/2020 15:50

Well of course chrissel wasn't supposed to know - I haven't seen him/her on previous threads unless there's been a change of name - but Seneca didn't need to feed it - and then hypocritically accuse us of again and again, thread of thread rehashing the same thing time after time.

7Penguins · 08/04/2020 19:21

Maybe Seneca is compelled to keep posting the same onions and hoping the strength of her arguments will finally make us see the light Grin

7Penguins · 08/04/2020 19:22

Opinions, not onions

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 08/04/2020 19:24

nah fleas onions is good....

I just keep coming back to the same thing: why on earth go for such a seriously fucked up way to get your own way?!

BarleylemonPenguin · 08/04/2020 19:27

7 - I was enjoying the image of Seneca posting onions Smile

LaMarschallin · 08/04/2020 19:36

7 - I was enjoying the image of Seneca posting onions smile

Is that because the posts make your eyes water 😂 like that?

Ilovellamasandpenguins · 08/04/2020 19:37

7 - that mistype has made me laugh

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 08/04/2020 19:44

I'm honoured to be credited with 7's onions mistype but it was all her own work.Grin

ArriettyJones · 08/04/2020 19:46

love your name Arrietty is it from The Borrowers

Yep Smile

lizzie1970a · 08/04/2020 20:02

Maybe Seneca is COMPELLED

to keep posting the same ONIONS

and HOPING the STRENGTH of her arguments

will finally make us see the LIGHT

(There, I've fixed it for you 7Penguins Smile )
