Why do HARRY and MEGHAN write their INSTAGRAM posts with this WEIRD mix of words in block CAPITALS and others in standard script? It's very ODD.

Am I allowed to ask whether that steely gaze during “we WILL meet again” was directed towards HaM?

Wasn’t she just referencing the WW2 song by Vera Lynn, the Forces’ “sweetheart”?

Yes, she was, we're just messing.Smile

#ArchieDay. OMG these people are fucking bonkers! "fans of baby Archie" - who on earth other than the terminally thick could be fans of a baby less than a year old? I do hope no one gets ripped off in the process of this, and also found it interesting that no UK countries were included in the list of "countries they care about".

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 06/04/2020 18:53

True, yolo. But not a surprise. I cannot imagine UK fans dreaming up this utter tosh.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 07/04/2020 08:49

New name announced for their charitable foundation. Seems a bit misguided to choose a word that no one knows how to pronounce.

SussexPenguin · 07/04/2020 08:51

What is the new name?

cheezy · 07/04/2020 08:53

Archewell

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 07/04/2020 08:56

Arkwell? Arshwell? Arkiewell? Arshewell?

cheezy · 07/04/2020 08:57

arch comes from the Greek ‘point of action’ apparently and of course basis of Archie. It’s okay.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 07/04/2020 08:57

It reflects their commitment to “wellness” apparently.

catinb0oots · 07/04/2020 09:03

It's shit. Is that the best they could come up with?

ArchePenguin · 07/04/2020 09:10

Are they fans of Keanu Reeves? It sounds like Arch motorcycles 🏍

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 07/04/2020 09:24

I don't think much of the name at first hearing but I commend them for avoiding any whiff of royalness.

To my mind the name is immaterial. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Some of the most effective charities have unprepossessing names. Archewell will become a household name if it achieves its aims effectively.

lizzie1970a · 07/04/2020 09:28

So they're back to launching a foundation again? I thought they'd ditched that idea (maybe I'm wrong as it was never that clear what they were going to do exactly)?

Is this a step to head off criticism as they only seem to have private work so far (and little of that it seems, probably given the current climate).

Olinguito · 07/04/2020 10:12

Archewell sounds like a team name suggestion on the Apprentice, which would quickly be rejected by the the other candidates!

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 07/04/2020 10:33

I'm interested though in why they have set up the Foundation. Normally this is something you would do after becoming fabulously wealthy, Gates and Obama style.

I don't know much about American charity law (I'm not even sure there is any) but I do about the law governing charities in England and Wales. If founders were likely to derive any personal benefit from a charity they established, Questions Would Be Asked.

Oldbutstillgotit · 07/04/2020 10:36

I am just amazed they didn’t announce this during the Queen’s broadcast .

As shared in early January on this website, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not plan to start a ‘foundation’, but rather intend to develop a new way to effect change and complement the efforts made by so many excellent foundations globally.

From their website.

bluebell34567 · 07/04/2020 10:52

they cant do anything else atm, only find names, announce it and have attention on them.

LittleBearPad · 07/04/2020 10:55

It’s a really ugly name.

ButteryPuffin · 07/04/2020 10:59

The name is standard corporate vague name. It could be an solicitor / accountancy firm, pretty much anything. As such it's not offensive or crossing any lines. They could have done a lot worse.
What's less clear is what it's for and what it's going to do. But that's another one of those 'will share with you in the future' things.

Wheresthebeach · 07/04/2020 11:11

@oddbutstillgotit - Quite. Perfectly observed. After announcing that they needed a break now they announce a foundation with a name based on Archie. Beggars belief. I thought they wanted him ‘protected’

RubyViolet · 07/04/2020 11:28

Archwell sounds like a secure prison unit.
