I don't think you can fault M's behaviour today.

I agree. There were even moments when they weren't holding hands, and looked much the better for it.

Butterymuffin · 09/03/2020 23:42

Rewarding bad behaviour again!

It's the last event, it probably seemed best just to get it done without (any more) unnecessary drama.

Just watching the service on iplayer. Harry was certainly keen to bury his face in the programme and avoid conversation until Meghan tapped him on the arm. Meghan was certainly more on point in putting her social face on than he was and she did a good job of that.

Meghan's dress and outfit overall was gorgeous. Cape was amazing. Demure yet glamorous. There are just the minor fitting issues others have mentioned. Kate's also looked great. Slightly less dazzling but immaculately fitted.

Rainbows8117 · 09/03/2020 23:44

Rewarding bad behaviour again! He throws a strop & they pander to him.

I actually think the Queen must have been quite adamant they would not be part of the procession. The easy way out would have been to just let them be part of it. Instead W&K didn't take part... but I wonder how that came about and why it would diffuse the situation. Unless there was objection that Harry wasn't being treated as equal to William (which he isn't as far as the line of succession goes!)

This bit of the article made me smile

But the palace notably failed to address the issue of why the Cambridges were originally down in the official Order of Service to accompany the Queen, before changing their minds to take their seats ahead of the Queen’s arrival, alongside the Sussexes.

"never explain, never complain"!! Learned that on here Grin

Royal family and Kensington have photos of all the family on their posts. Someone else doesn’t.

That makes me so angry.

SaidTheActressToTheBishop · 09/03/2020 23:52

The only slightly negative comment about Megs clothes I’ve ever made and it’s been deleted

Very mild, I said how much Megs’s dress apparently cost and how for that money I’d want something that fitted me properly at the back

Nothing that others haven’t said about Meghan or others

Yet mine has gone

Right-oh

Winterlife · 10/03/2020 01:03

@OverUnderSidewaysDown, I don’t believe MM uses a dressmaker.

Lynda07 · 10/03/2020 01:21

Who has thrown a strop? Nobody. The Mail of course are trying to make something out of nothing as usual.

Nanamilly · 10/03/2020 01:45

I thought that Harry should have stood up, like Edward, for the Royal women arriving. It's old fashioned courtesy. Instead he sat their like a sulky teenager. He really should know better on such an important day

I agree. Even as a family we stand up for each other when someone arrives wherever we are.

Jonb6 · 10/03/2020 02:22

MM's dress looked very odd around the neck, and she should employ the use of a dressmaker to make adjustments, the clothes will look much sleeker for it. Loved Sophie's dress, looked fab. Poor Prince Harry, it all seems a bit grim really and very sad that the country is losing what could have been two very good ambassadors and advocates at a time when the country needs all the goodwill it can get.

StartupRepair · 10/03/2020 04:30

Meghan has bolted after less than 2 years. Don't see how that adds up to 'many years caring about the Commonwealth'.

Ritascornershop · 10/03/2020 05:13

The thing I often notice about famous women’s shoes is how dull they are. Always the same terribly high stilletoes. Never a high-heeled (or flat) Oxford, never a Mary Jane, never a high-heeled brogue with a tassel, never a sexy clog, just the same damn stilletoes on many famous women, and certainly on the younger royals. For once I’d like to see someone in a Fluevog (or the U.K. equivalent). Or anything but those boring spiky heels.

FizzyLimes · 10/03/2020 05:34

Meghan’s outfit was very bright and a bit wedding guest.
She looked fabulous ( apart from the fit)
Normally it’s the Queen who wears the brightest outfit so she can be seen.

All the a Royal ladies went fairly muted and Meghan stood out, for the wrong reasons in terms of the RF. However the right reasons for her for her a Insta CV for the US.

TimeLady · 10/03/2020 06:14

I suspect William is the only one prepared to speak robustly and frankly to Harry, (as only a sibling can) and H doesn’t like it. Everyone else, inc his grandmother and father, probably treads on eggshells.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 10/03/2020 06:34

Were the Wessexes part of a procession originally, anyone know? Seems odd to me that they’d have been the only 2 not part of the procession, so maybe last minute switch was for optics?

I agree MMs behaviour yesterday was far better than her husband’s! Kudos to her. It can’t have been easy.

SussexRoyalTies · 10/03/2020 06:48

IIRC there was a royal correspondent who said that Harry always out on a front of being the happy jovial Prince. Maybe nowadays he can’t be arsed to our in the front anymore and we are seeing his true character.

Still, props to Meghan for yesterday, even if she is morphing into Melania Trump.

SussexRoyalTies · 10/03/2020 06:49

Put on the front, I mean.

LadyEloise · 10/03/2020 07:31

Ritascornershop
".....sexy clog..."
Two words I never thought I'd see iside by side..Smile

Persinally I'd prefer a heel for formal wear.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 10/03/2020 07:56

I can see why H&M would be upset at being dropped fron the official arrival procession. They are still officially working Royals until the 31st of this month. It does seem strange for The Queen to have made the effort to ensure they flew back to conduct these last engagements - effectively inviting them - only to make it clear through protocol that they're not to be seen as official Royals. After all they were Ambassadors to the Commonwealth and M is head of some commonwealth university initiative. So I think IF the DM is correct they ought to have arrived with the Queen.

It explains Harry's sullen teenager look.

M on the other hand I agree put her best face on and made an effort. Some would say she's made more concentrated effort over these few days than in the months leading up to them leaving.

Oldbutstillgotit · 10/03/2020 08:04

@ CanIHaveATiaraPlease no the Wessexes weren’t part . It was in the programme that it was HM, PC and Cam , K and W. Last year it was them plus H and M.

Back in 2012 , at the Diamond Jubilee , there were eyebrows raised as the only people on BP balcony were HM, PP, PC, Cam, W and K, H and M. It was said that that this was PC’s idea of a slimmed down monarchy so it was clear that he saw H and M as being very much at the centre of things . I suppose that them stepping back changes that . I think H is going to really struggle with his new life .

Wheresthebeach · 10/03/2020 08:05

If being dropped from the procession is why he looked so sulky its seems to me to be another example of him not really understanding the consequences of what's he's done.

Good on W&K for calming the situation down, but I'm hoping it's the last time they pander to his moods. Its also an indication of just how firm The Queen is going to be with them, technically they may still be working til the 31st but she's given them a taste of the future.

LittleBearPad · 10/03/2020 08:12

Meghan wasn’t on the balcony in 2012. She hadn’t met Harry then.

It might have been more emotionally intelligent of the Palace for M&H (plus Sophie and Edward) to be in the procession. Who would have cared.

Oldbutstillgotit · 10/03/2020 08:14

@ LittleBearPad apologies- it was just H

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 10/03/2020 08:21

So it would only have been the Wessexes that weren’t part of the original procession? I think that would have looked more odd tbh.

FizzyLimes · 10/03/2020 08:37

The Wessexes weren’t considered “senior royals”.
I think after Harry and Meghan officially go, they will be considered as such. Sophie looks like she is picking up a slew of interesting roles.
