Anyone who’s ever been in charge of recruitment will know that confidence and bravado is absolutely not indicative of skill, ability, attitude, fit and a myriad other things.

Barleylemon · 08/03/2020 10:37

De-lurking, btw. Have been superstitiously following the shenanigans when time permits. Like most think, this has been an unmitigated disaster from start to finish.

bluebell34567 · 08/03/2020 10:40

if that photo is shopped then it is a very good one.
but where are her earrings? did she take them out in the car?

Mariposa123 · 08/03/2020 10:44

Delurking (I’ve been hooked on these threads for weeks. Very insightful and interesting discussion taking place here!) to note the difference in tone on the iWD Instagram posts from Kensingtonroyal and Sussexroyal. I know we shouldn’t really pit the two couples but it’s hard not to notice the differences in approach.

The Cambridges have a photo montage of inspirational women they’ve met this year, including midwives and a holocaust survivor.

The Sussex’s have a video of Meghan at the school and starts with two shots of her walking down an aisle surrounded by cheering and clapping children...

Interpret it how you will.

PrettyPity · 08/03/2020 10:45

Funny that Meghan is not a great actress when it's about her "not having a great career" but she suddenly becomes an actress when it's to downplay anything that she's done that might show her in good light.

Honestly, you need to rest with this everyday hate.

Encyclo · 08/03/2020 10:45

It's a massive advantage to be an effective communicator and to have the ability to speak passionately and clearly on a topic you believe in.

*I’ve only seen a few videos of MM talking, made me roll my eyes and think to myself ‘dollar store Jennifer Lawrence’.

But then I have utter contempt for all actors and the LA fakery. Even Californian accent sets my teeth on edge.*

She delivered an outstanding speech in SA, that even Piers Morgan couldn't find fault with. She really connected with her audience and spoke from the heart.

unluckyagain · 08/03/2020 10:47

I only saw a short clip on tv but she said to the young people something like 'I empower you to...'. How can she empower them?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/03/2020 10:49

Isn't it a little odd that Meghan should choose school visit for International Womens Day?
No doubt it was a lovely event and I'm sure the pupils were thrilled to see her, but I'd have expected something a bit more high profile for a famous, self-avowed feminist

7Worfs · 08/03/2020 10:50

Encyclo thanks I will look for that particular speech.

Mariposa thank you for the Instagram update, I never look at it. Not surprised it’s M centred though.
Kate’s work with midwives gets me all emotional as I had a baby fairly recently (two weeks after MM actually), and the post-EMCS care I received was so great, amazing women...

derxa · 08/03/2020 10:53

I only saw a short clip on tv but she said to the young people something like 'I empower you to...'. How can she empower them? She's got super powers. I don't hate Meghan, I'm just interested in this soap opera. It's a welcome distraction from the lambing.

Encyclo · 08/03/2020 10:54

"I met a group of young girls yesterday who wanted to talk to me about their experience, some of which was harrowing, yet despite everything they had been through, they said the saddest thing was to watch the continued degradation of women, and that they wanted to be part of a movement where both women and men play a role in turning that around. As I’ve said before, I firmly believe that all women have a voice, they just need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to feel encouraged to listen,* There is a role for all of us here. As women we can listen to one another, and lift each other up, we can raise our boys to be men who value women. And for men and boys, you can lead by example and not let your mothers, daughters, sisters, wives and girlfriends ever feel that they are lesser than you."*

From that SA speech.

Happy International's Women's day.

7Worfs · 08/03/2020 10:56

Shame she had to throw shade on the WOW Camilla was promoting. 🤔

Again - MM is an opportunist, switching on and off activism mode when it suits.

PelicanPie · 08/03/2020 10:59

What is Meghan doing to empower the other women in the RF? Seems she is trying to undermine their work at times. I don’t see much sisterhood from her there. What is she doing to help the Queen rather than embarrass her and weaken her position abroad and at home?

Yes - I wondered that. It did sound like she had a magic "empowering" wand.
Or perhaps it's like the queen conferring a knighhood: "Arise, empowered one!".

Trouble is, there does seem a trend for people to throw around all sorts of grandiose and/or woke words and phrases without reflecting on what they actually mean.

If it's done confidently enough, they're rarely questioned.

(Off topic, but if you watch The Apprentice there are gross examples of this leading to them saying absolute rubbish.)

Happy International's Women's day.
Same to you, Encyclo Smile

unluckyagain · 08/03/2020 11:08

I wish she had waved a magic empowering wand. That would have been great! Whoosh!

Empowerico!

derxa · 08/03/2020 11:16

I wish she would empower me to muck out the sheep pens. It's cold and I can't be arsed.
I admire Meghan's drive and energy.

Sounds like you need to start a new thread! ‘This farming life..’
I would be interested !

Mariposa123 · 08/03/2020 11:18

@7Worfs I agree! Since having my daughter (a week before Archie!) my respect for Kate has really grown. Her work with the under 5s seems to come from a place of actual care, and I found I enjoyed hearing her on that podcast more than I expected!

BirdieDance · 08/03/2020 11:19

Not sure why my comment was deleted? I don't think I said anything that others hadn't said?

It's a speech, the idea of a speech is to connect with and to inspire the audience.

The young girls she spoke with that were in the audience connected with it and felt inspired by her words.

She was never going to win over this thread tbf.

7Worfs · 08/03/2020 11:23

Encyclo sounds like you were one of those girls Wink

I’m only ribbing, no offence meant. Smile

Encyclo · 08/03/2020 11:25

Can't talk Worfs, I need to iron my "I love Meghan forever" T-shirt
