According to Rebecca English , Harry and Meghan were upset to be dropped from HM’s procession so William and Kate offered to step down from the procession to avoid any further feuding.

yolofish · 09/03/2020 22:23

The security funding issue may well be their nemesis.

On the one hand: stay in the UK, live the quiet life they purported to want, security costs remain the same - and possibly actually reduce.

On the other hand: move to a different continent, have 3 people in 3 different locations at times therefore requiring 3x the security. Factor in the costs of only having Met Police teams on grounds they are the best in the world.

I mean, why would we British taxpayers want to pay for it? Why would HaM think it's ok for us to do so?

Butterymuffin · 09/03/2020 22:26

If that's true, good on the Cambridges for attempting to defuse things. They'll probably be repaid with passive aggressive revenge Insta posts, even so.

MissEliza · 09/03/2020 22:27

I guess I'm very unsophisticated but I just can't understand how a dress like that would cost £11000. Where is she going to wear it again? It was a bit too glam for a church service as well. L

SaidTheActressToTheBishop · 09/03/2020 22:28

Old

thanks that makes sense

The Sussexes were never in the line up list but the Cambridges were

Also explains why Kate couldn’t be bothered to do small talk shes has enough already

yolofish · 09/03/2020 22:30

yy misseliza you could have got a better fitting dress in any UK High St store. And then worn it again. That dress - instantly recognisable in any future context.

MissEliza · 09/03/2020 22:31

So @Oldbutstillgotit is it possible the Sussexes got a bit petulant about not being in the procession?

Roussette · 09/03/2020 22:32

Rebecca English a DM reporter is hardly the fountain of all knowledge so it isn't fact.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 09/03/2020 22:32

Is Rebecca English reliable - Genuine question as I’ve no idea Blush

Oldbutstillgotit · 09/03/2020 22:39

Yes Rebecca English works for the DM but she certainly knows Harry and there are numerous articles available plus photos of them together . Is it fact ? No idea, but it makes sense as the Cambridges were listed on the official order of service as being part of the procession and that only changed hours before the service.

Rainbows8117 · 09/03/2020 22:43

For the purpose of fairness I'm trying to think of what other possible reasons this was changed last minute rather than just agree with the article.

the Cambridge's would either have offered or were told to change, but why? And I really can only bring it back to the Sussexes. Either they objected or someone else in the family decided it's somehow fairer on them if W&K join them.

What would be interesting to know is if the Sussexes would have been in the procession if it wasn't for Megxit. Did HMQ exclude them because they are stepping down. Or it was only the line of succession Charles and William.

The question is, if the Sussexes did object, then why do they even care about the procession when they no longer want to do the Royal roles? I think I know the answer.

LaMarschallin · 09/03/2020 22:44

Roussette

Who is paying them not to work? As ministers and ex PMs and minor Royals get security, I can't see why there shouldn't be a contribution for H&M's security, with a contribution from them too. Sounds fair to me.

I don't know what happens with "minor royals". And I'm not sure who they are.

If H&M are either "minor", "ex" or "half-in-out" royals, I assume they deserve some form of security.

BUT, afaik, ministers and ex PMs carried on doing their jobs until they were voted out/sacked/whatever.

I don't think any of them decided they didn't fancy all this intrusive "political" stuff and resigned but still wanted publicly funded security.

I do realise I could be wrong.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 09/03/2020 22:45

The issue with the fit of Meghan's dress is quite simple, and I bet lots of home dressmakers were itching to get their hands on it to fix it! She has a lovely figure which is quite short from waist to shoulder and relatively long from waist to thigh. It’s very poor that her bespoke dressmaker did not take account of this. The extra material is nothing to do with her underwear or the other theories people have been floating. If there was time for Harry to get matching lining in his jacket there was time for the dressmaker to get this right. So I blame the dressmaker. Look at the close up of Sophie’s dress to see a similar style where the waist of the dress lines up correctly with the waist of the wearer.

Oldbutstillgotit · 09/03/2020 22:48

@ Rainbows8117 they were in the procession last year

7Worfs · 09/03/2020 22:51

I think it’s a bad move from WAK (as I call them) to step away from the procession.
Firstly, as it was a last minute change it was obvious it’s because of HAM, secondly, HAM can view it as unwanted charity.

TheMustressMhor · 09/03/2020 22:57

I think, Worfs, it is likely that HAM will not appreciate WAK's efforts on their behalf.

whatisheupto · 09/03/2020 22:58

Kudos to Meghan for managing that in such high heels! Is it just me or are they dangerously high? I could barely watch, worried she would to fall. Yes I realise I sound about 30 years older than I am!

HerRoyalNotness · 09/03/2020 23:01

I think the insta posts say it all. Royal family and Kensington have photos of all the family on their posts. Someone else doesn’t.

Did love the emerald outfit, very striking and catches attention

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 09/03/2020 23:01

The DM puts a definite spin on stories, but they often get the bare bones right. So it will be interesting to see if the facts about the procession emerge.

Despite most people making an effort, it reminded me of a funeral I went to where the deceased's family were at loggerheads with his (perfectly nice) ex wife. It just made you want to look away.

DeRigueurMortis · 09/03/2020 23:13

Having watched the footage I don't think M put a foot wrong.

Whatever anyone might say about motive or acting, she smiled, chatted, curtsied, wore appropriate clothes etc

Harry on the other hand looked surly and uncomfortable.

I've honestly no idea what's going on in his head but he doesn't look happy - whether that's about what he's giving up or because he can't wait to leave (purely speculation but my guess is after years of being royal and pandered to he's massively pissed off with PC and W in particular in not getting his own way about half in/half out).

Either way I don't think you can fault M's behaviour today.

Rainbows8117 · 09/03/2020 23:15

Maybe W&K didn't have any choice in the end and HMQ or PC told them to do it to try and keep the peace. Who knows, but I think it's brought far more attention to the issue than had the original order of service just been followed as planned.

WeArnottamused · 09/03/2020 23:28

Rewarding bad behaviour again! He throws a strop & they pander to him. Seriously someone needs to point out to these two, it’s one or the other, in or out.

I’m embarrassed for “call me a stroppy spoilt brat - Harry”

I will be so pleased when this pair fuck off back to Canada & fade into obscurity. Ever hear of them again it’ll be to soon

SaidTheActressToTheBishop · 09/03/2020 23:29

Maybe the Sussexes WERE listed in the procession in the programme

Maybe they got photoshopped out by evil Meghan-hating trolls spreading false rumours

Rainbows8117 · 09/03/2020 23:33

Bishop GrinGrinGrin we've been fooled again!

darktriad · 09/03/2020 23:34

What about Charles'? he looks so much better than in his younger days, old age seems to suit him. A few extra pounds and I love his light grey suit, really flatters his complexion. Perhaps he just needed the love of a good woman
