It is amazing how quickly and dismissively one can curtsey if you feel like it

Like a pert housemaid's bob!😂

yolofish · 09/03/2020 18:55

fleas you calling me a housemaid?? How very dare you! Grin

Alsgirl · 09/03/2020 18:56

Re Megan's curtsy was it a £2m curtsy, I didn't see it....

Oldbutstillgotit · 09/03/2020 18:59

Do you thing Meghan is already on a flight back to Canada ?
I am far too invested in all this but I do await with bated breath what will happen next .

SaidTheActressToTheBishop · 09/03/2020 18:59

She did 2 curtsies

A million a pop then

Tsukukuviri · 09/03/2020 19:00

Thanks so much Mumsnet it really has felt like a campaign to pick on every little thing M gets wrong in the eyes of posters, for instance today she apparently “curtsied like an actress” and she smiled too much! Grin

On the comment above about feeling sorry for the “ poor Queen who started her reign with an empire and now has no empire” etc, it is tone deaf comments like this that make some of us sit up.

It surely doesn’t take much imagination, especially today, a celebration of the Commonwealth, to understand that many countries are actually happy not to be part of that empire?

So you may feel sad for the Queen who has lost so many subjects, but those subjects are delighted to have a relationship as CITIZENS in the Commonwealth of Nations, not as SUBJECTS of the British Empire!

Here’s to the Commonwealth, which HMQ loves so much, and long may she, and it, prosper!

Alsgirl · 09/03/2020 19:01

Charles has been shortchanged then

Bellehare099 · 09/03/2020 19:06

He could have summoned the energy to make an effort , at least for the sake of his Grandmother if nothing else. He's really behaved poorly.

If he’s actually depressed, that might be a big ask. Earlier, I said he was ill mannered but now I wonder.

And I think it was charming of Meghan to curtsy to Charles when protocol does not require it.

He’s in charge of the purse strings, remember.”

Excellent point.

yolofish

Edward has very good manners, well brung up innit. I actually really like Kate, I think she's played a long game very well, and I can imagine she'd be a lot of fun if you knew her - but private person publicly a la HMQ. I like Camilla too, can imagine her being very indiscreet but funny! Sophie plays a blinder all the time.

Just wondering why Anne wasnt there today? She's also someone I have a lot of time for. Funny how the women are the ones with the character.

Agree on all counts.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 09/03/2020 19:11

I disagree Tsukuk my parents, grandparents & great grandparents & in laws were all subjects of the British empire. I can tell you now that they were proud to be so. So not everyone agrees with your viewpoint.

Due to being part of the empire my ancestors were able to come to the UK & make better lives for themselves. Most of them view the Queen with fondness & like the monarchy. I can only speak for my family though & no one else’s!

ajandjjmum · 09/03/2020 19:12

it was charming of Meghan to curtsy to Charles when protocol does not require it.

It would be rather more charming if she behaved like a decent person, and didn't - with her DH - focus on what is best for them, with no regard for the other members of her family - despite the fact that they still rely on them for financial support.

Barleylemon · 09/03/2020 19:14

It is very likely that he is depressed. Didn’t he mention something about not being able to get out of bed sometimes because of feeling overwhelmed and down?

Strawberrycreamsundae · 09/03/2020 19:15

We used to have to curtsey to the nuns when I was at boarding school
Me too yolo, and the ‘dumb insolence’ rings bells too 😊

I suspect that they’d hot foot it to the airport if it were possible.....

Farewell H&M!

LittleBearPad · 09/03/2020 19:15

Camilla’s great. She and Sophie deserve more recognition

yolofish · 09/03/2020 19:16

Tsuku today was a celebration of the Commonwealth. Hence people from all over were invited, and chose to come and join in that celebration. Countries come, countries go, but for some reason they have decided that they want to be part of the Commonwealth - it's not like HMQ cracks a whip and makes them be part. So I thought it was a beautiful celebration of that relationship.

However, totally agree about the concept of Empire - although the British Empire did do a lot of good stuff (eg infrastructure) along with the bad. Probably more than the slave trade did if we are comparing awfulnesses (is that a word?)

Sorry if I've misunderstood you.

derxa · 09/03/2020 19:22

I think Anne probably went on the lash after the Scotland game. I'm sure she'd love a night on the bevvy with a crowd of hunky Scottish men.
I think that's why I don't 'get' Meghan. I've got nothing in common with her. Whereas I spend my days dressed in padded shirts and wellies. At the moment I'm sporting Eau de Lamb AfterBirth et Silage. Anne's more my type of gal.

LadyEloise · 09/03/2020 19:22

Was there an empty seat between William and Meghan in the cathedral or did it just look like that on the tv footage i saw ?

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 09/03/2020 19:23

Well quite yolo Re infrastructure.

The Cypriot justice system (whatever you may think of it), road system, The English School (top school in Cyprus) is all based on the UK system.

So many Cypriots come to the UK for their university education because Of the ties with the UK.

Most friends/family Ive spoken to think PA, HaM have brought the monarchy into disrepute.

LadyEloise · 09/03/2020 19:24

I agree ajandjjmum

MissEliza · 09/03/2020 19:25

Harry did look very grumpy. I guess he's one of those people who just can't fake it but sometimes you've got to do it. I'll never forget his surly face at the Trump reception. He embarrassed himself.

Nishky · 09/03/2020 19:26

I felt sorry for Meghan today- I think she was trying to make the best of a bad job and Harry didn’t seem to help her at all. He ignored Edward and she had to touch his arm to point out he was being spoken to.

I thought her curtesy to Charles was lovely and I am sure she acknowledged Camilla as well- there was a slight turn of head after she smiled at Charles

The bit of her wedding when Charles met her actually made me weep - I wonder if in spite or everything there is a bond there.

AllTheseThingsThatIHaveNotDone · 09/03/2020 19:28

I’ve not seen the coverage from today did it look quite awkward?
It's on iplayer figgy and you have to wade through two hours of footage for 5 minutes of total interaction Grin
Meghan smiles throughout - a bit like you do if you are at the same party as your partner's ex - makes a point of a bright effusive hello to the Cambridges. Kate and Sophie look a bit po-faced as does Harry, Edward saves the day (he and his wife obvs had a tactic: I'll do Megs, you do Kate). Harry looks a bit tense but is bloody lovely to kids on way in and out - as a pp said, probably cos kids look chuffed to see him.
