Isn't it a little odd that Meghan should choose school visit for International Womens Day? No doubt it was a lovely event and I'm sure the pupils were thrilled to see her, but I'd have expected something a bit more high profile for a famous, self-avowed feminist

So she's criticised if she hobnobs with celebrities but she's also criticised if she pays a low key visit to a school to chat to ordinary pupils? She really can't win!

7Worfs · 08/03/2020 11:29

Encyclo million dollar idea Grin even I would wear a MM did nothing wrong T-shirt ironically Grin
And fans obvs will wear it seriously. She can corner the market!

derxa · 08/03/2020 11:30

And for men and boys, you can lead by example and not let your mothers, daughters, sisters, wives and girlfriends ever feel that they are lesser than you." Is that why she shoves Harry out the way all the time at events where he's the principal guest?

“It’s Em-POW-erico, not Empoweri-CO”

Bugger.

Wondered why I just seemed to be magically signing people up with N-Power Sad

FizzyLimes · 08/03/2020 11:37

Well tomorrow is going to be interesting, giving the number of feathers Meghan has ruffled.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 08/03/2020 11:37

I’m no MM Dan but there is a horrid article by Camilla Long this morning in the Sunday Times. I’ll photo if anyone wants it.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 08/03/2020 11:37

Fan not Dan

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/03/2020 11:38

Talk about twisting what I said, SamanthaBrique - especially when I acknowledged that the pupils were no doubt glad to see her and that it was probably a lovely event

I merely wondered why the choice had fallen on a school rather than a higher profile thing ... though actually I've since seen that there's a big march in London today, so maybe she'll be at that too

SamanthaBrique · 08/03/2020 11:43

Apologies in that case @Puzzledandpissedoff.

@CanIHaveATiaraPlease Camilla Long is vile - she has it in for Meghan and has written crap about Kate in the past too.

I’ve only seen a few videos of MM talking, made me roll my eyes and think to myself ‘dollar store Jennifer Lawrence’.

But then I have utter contempt for all actors and the LA fakery. Even Californian accent sets my teeth on edge.

The gushing quality of their words makes me wince too.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/03/2020 11:44

I am always impressed at how self confident and articulate a public speaker she is, no notes, no cue cards, speaking without faltering. Comes across as quite intellectual.

I don't see this at all. Yes, she is self confident, but I find her speeches, like her written style, fussy and contrived and lacking in content. She is not a concise speaker. If I hear or read the words "empowered" or "honoured" or "inspiring" from her one more time I may just scream.

I can only assume people who find her a good speaker don't watch a lot of speech making. May I recommend the following speech from Julia Gillard on misogyny as an example of what (to me) constitutes a good speech.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/03/2020 11:46

Well tomorrow is going to be interesting

The big service you mean? I wouldn't worry as the RF are pretty good at putting on a public face ... though it can't be easy knowing the media are positively quivering to get an "unguarded moment" shot

However dysfunctional the family might be they're not stupid, and I'd expect this event to be choreographed to the max

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/03/2020 11:48

Apologies in that case Puzzledandpissedoff

No probs, Samantha Flowers

SamanthaBrique · 08/03/2020 11:48

I have utter contempt for all actors and the LA fakery. Even Californian accent sets my teeth on edge.

Why is it so acceptable to generalise and make nasty comments about Americans on Mumsnet?

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 08/03/2020 11:48

Oh I know Samantha She’s not particularly pleasant about Kate either in the article but really nasty about MM. And I don’t particularly like the woman!

drina27 · 08/03/2020 11:49

The Cambridges have a photo montage of inspirational women they’ve met this year, including midwives and a holocaust survivor.

The Sussex’s have a video of Meghan at the school and starts with two shots of her walking down an aisle surrounded by cheering and clapping children...

Interpret it how you will.

The difference is stark - and to the detriment of the limelight seekers.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 08/03/2020 11:49

Random question. Are all members of the royal family DBS checked? Considering how close they get to kids, all the hugging etc. I’m sure Andrew will have his revoked!

LaMarschallin · 08/03/2020 11:49

CanIHaveATiaraPlease

I’m no MM Dan but there is a horrid article by Camilla Long this morning in the Sunday Times. I’ll photo if anyone wants it.

Funnily enough, I'm just off to get the Telegraph and the Times now (preferred Sunday crosswords and the usual Sunday read chez LaMa).

I'm certainly no fan of MM either, but CL does seem to have an almost personal dislike of her.

[As a by the by, I did notice was a slight change in Caitlin Moran's attitude to HaM in one of the Celebrity Watch columns in a Friday Times.
She's normally v pro them (MM, especially), but was very definitely gently poking bit of fun at the whole "Sussex Royal" debacle and The Overuse Of Capitals.
Notably, she went on to only capitalise their first names in the rest of the piece.]

7Worfs · 08/03/2020 11:49

Samantha where have I said Americans?
Are you saying all actors are American? Hmm

SamanthaBrique · 08/03/2020 11:50

I actually feel sorry for all of them tomorrow as the amateur body language experts are going to be out in force. I'd find it hilarious if the Cambridges and Sussexes exchanged big hugs upon seeing each other! Unlikely I know, but the tabloids would self-combust Grin

TheWordmeister · 08/03/2020 11:50

I think she's a great public speaker - so confident and natural. Other members of the RF could do with coaching. I'm thinking of poor Kate who is a terrible public speaker - very stiff and unnatural.

SamanthaBrique · 08/03/2020 11:51

@7Worfs "LA fakery", "California accents set my teeth on edge"?

MissEliza · 08/03/2020 11:52

Well MM has had acting training so I wouldn't expect her not to be a good speaker.

PelicanPie · 08/03/2020 11:52

I agree with you about the speeches my imaginary cat
I think there are a lot of LA woke words and no substance. I really think she believes she is a special person, come among the masses to dispense her special wisdom. The content of which amounts to ‘do as I say , not as I do’. It’s self delusion of a staggering kind.
