Regarding Meghan's alleged debts, we know her father and mother were both bankrupt at one point, obviously this isn’t Meghan’s fault but she has been having to bankroll her father who clearly has no idea how to manage money. It must have been hard proping him up on just her suits salary.
However back to the thread I’ve just seen the school clip. She just oozes confidence and charm doesn’t she? I can see why Harry was hooked. Hopefully he isn’t the jealous type.

FazakAli · 08/03/2020 19:17

Can we stick to the topic of discussion please? I've enjoyed these threads and all the historical information over the past few months. It will be a shame if this got deleted due to negativity. Everybody has different opinions on this topic which is fine as mn is a discussion board.

Sunshineand · 08/03/2020 19:18

Wha?
I think we've heard it all now Grin

Actually, are we sure Meghan didn't start the Corona virus? Anyone know?

Ritascornershop · 08/03/2020 19:20

Is anyone keeping track of negative comments about Harry? Off the top of my head; arrogant, deluded, bad suits, disrespectful, teeth whitening, projected future hair loss, etc.

I think some people are either much younger than I am or have very short memories because Sarah Ferguson was absolutely slayed by the press (& would have been by social media if it had existed in her hay day).

It seems to me (having been a North American living in the U.K.) that a small part of it is culture clash and the “hit the ground running” talk followed by not actually seeing it through grates, plus the hypocrisy about carbon footprints, plus of course the bloody massive security costs. I think tax payers in the U.K. and Canada should be able to discuss this without being shut down by an insistence that we hold opinions that we don’t actually hold.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/03/2020 19:20

Padded buttocks.

😂😂😂

Ritascornershop · 08/03/2020 19:21

Sorry, slated by the press, not slayed (re Fergie).

Needthechat333 · 08/03/2020 19:23

Great post Djenne. I’ve also got a mixed background and this the criticism in here has been generally fair in the context of them being public figures and receiving public money. Obviously, if they stepped away from that money, then I’d give them a wide berth.

Sunshineand · 08/03/2020 19:23

'slayed' is what M and H did this weekend Wink

I just saw Djenne’s post and see I’m in good company in feeling the “boots on the ground” followed by giving up so quickly is part of what grates. My experience of the U.K. was that generally speaking people tend not to be so impressed by big talk. Keeping a sharp eye out for self-importance is a valuable characteristic, imo (& one I wish we had more of in Canada).

SaidTheActressToTheBishop · 08/03/2020 19:31

’slayed' is what M and H did this weekend

Omg now you’re trying to start a rumour that they’re murderers

DjenneJen · 08/03/2020 19:37

Needthechat333 there seemed to be such good feeling when they married but I think people have been disappointed by H&Ms behaviour from then on. It’s confused and confusing. One day it’s ‘Just call me Harry’, the next he’s the Duke of Sussex. Saying they want to be out the public eye but making sure the press cover ‘secret’ engagements. Meghan making it her personal mission to shake up an age old institution and bring them into line with the 21st century. It seems all about them and never mind how their behaviour affects the rest of the RF. I don’t blame them for wanting out but there seems to have been hardly any time between hitting the ground running and jetting off to Canada in high dudgeon. And if they want a life out the limelight then how does speaking at international bank conferences and promoting your new association with an environmental travel firm fit in with that quiet, normal life? There’s no racism in these observations. Don’t care what colour, religion or ethnicity these two are but flaky, self-promoting hypocrisy is flaky, self-promoting hypocrisy regardless.

Sunshineand · 08/03/2020 19:40

Grin

Tsukukuviri · 08/03/2020 19:41

I am not trying to get the thread deleted. At all. But I will challenge the double standards. And the unpleasant speculation and personal comments.

But you are right to say we should comment on what interests us and give our opinions.

And just as @winterlife and others think it’s appropriate to comment on whether MM’s “padded buttocks” are appropriate for a British audience, then it is also appropriate for me to comment on any aspect I see fit, including the incipient racism in comments about MM.

And if that is “derailing” and making people flounce, then I want to know why it is so uncomfortable for people to have racism pointed out, but those of us who are WOC are not supposed to be offended by the racism itself.

Sunshineand · 08/03/2020 19:46

Don’t care what colour, religion or ethnicity these two are but flaky, self-promoting hypocrisy is flaky, self-promoting hypocrisy regardless.

It doesn't matter if you're mixed race, if you're stating that to explain that you can't possibly be racist. (Not saying anyone's accusing you of being racist but it was odd the way you dropped that in there)Same way women can still be sexist. A 'mixed' person using woke as an insult?
ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmmm

SaidTheActressToTheBishop · 08/03/2020 19:47

Tsukukuviri

Waiting for you to challenge the double standards of one of your allies on this thread saying to a WOC “I don't understand what your being mixed has to do with it“

Encyclo · 08/03/2020 19:49

Don't worry @Tsukukuviri the flouncers never stay flounced on this series of threads. They'll be back, like moths to a flame.

LittleBearPad · 08/03/2020 19:50

In 24 hours they can trot back off to Canada and whatever they are going to do there. Good luck to them as long as the security issue is resolved.

DjenneJen · 08/03/2020 19:50

What has being mixed got to do with it

Upthread an OP said,
Or is it your view that this forum is for white posters like you only, and the views of a black person thoughtfully challenging something that seemed racist will derail the thread.

As a mixed person I wanted to comment that many people on here do not appear to have a racist agenda and are just baffled by the hypocrisy, ill thought out exit strategy and conflicting messages that H&M give out.

Taking shots at Meghan’s looks, fashion and childcare choices are imo not acceptable and not sisterly. Stating that the way both Harry and she have behaved and the stuff they have come out with, has been pretty grim, is not racist. It’s twatist.

DjenneJen · 08/03/2020 19:53

And I say that not as a white poster. Which I feel in the light of the comment made by Tsukukuviri is relevant.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 08/03/2020 19:53

@Tsukukuviri
I applauded your speech on the previous thread and thought it was well timed and appropriate.
However I really resent and dislike your automatic assumption that all criticism of the Duchess of Suffolk is racist.
I also resent and dislike your assumption that all posters here are racist White people. We're not.
You may like to look at your attitude towards anonymous posters on a forum.

PelicanPie · 08/03/2020 19:53

I think actually we have done the racism accusations to death now. There is really no more to say.
We all have different opinions on both H and M. Some people admire M or both of them greatly and they can literally do no wrong. I really believe that some of those people feel this way because M is half black and they need to see a WOC succeeding.
For others, there are misgivings to whatever degree. We are allowed to discuss these misgivings. We are allowed to have our opinions , however much others may disagree. Personal opinions are just that. They are based on personal observations and reactions to what they read or see in the Press. Our opinions are formed by our life experiences and preferences which obviously will vary greatly.
It’s a bit like someone in the office. Some may really like her sense of humour and the way she comes across. For others it may grate. Some may be suspicious of her motives, others may go out socialising with her . That’s all fine. Live and let live.
So long as we are not breaking talk guidelines we are allowed to express ourselves, discuss and dissect.

OP posts:
Tsukukuviri · 08/03/2020 19:58

@Absolutepowercorrupts

Definitely don’t think everyone is racist and have said so. There have been some insightful comments here. But I am not going to apologize for taking on racist comments.

And I really want to know why calling out any racist comments is considered derailing but personal comments about padded buttocks are okay,

Encyclo · 08/03/2020 19:59

I really believe that some of those people feel this way because M is half black and they need to see a WOC succeeding.

That's a weird assumption Pelican, that's got nothing to do with it AFAIC.

Winterlife · 08/03/2020 20:04

@Tsukukuviri MM makes it about those issues with her over the top make up and appearance.

People commented disfavorably on Kate Middleton's dresses in Ireland. No one called posters out for that.

As for the buttocks, I have almost exactly the same @ss shape as MM, although I'm curvier in general [an apple shape figure - most difficult to dress in a flattering manner]. So I can see what she's done, particularly after having seen photos in jeans/leggings. I'm not criticizing the decision, her body, her choice, she should do whatever she is comfortable with. I merely pointed out that the audience for the photos with all the enhancements wasn't the British public.
