@Roussette wow impressive. I must admit I’m a big fan of his, think I have watched most of the documentaries he has done a voiceover in.Enjoyed the Netflix that came out last year.

littlemeitslyn · 07/04/2020 18:00

No

Roussette · 07/04/2020 18:25

The wildlife stuff was all very new, but I was still in awe of him

Port1aCastis · 07/04/2020 18:45

They are not perfect, you know. You do not have to defend absolutely everything they do

People don't have to trawl the internet hoping to find ammo to paint them in a bad light either.

Wow Rousette that's a cool job you had there, sadly our wedding was cancelled because of current circumstances, should have been on Saturday.

chrisseldah1 · 07/04/2020 19:00

@PortiaCastis aww really sorry for that. Hope you manage/ manage to book it at a later stage. It really sucks as nobody really knows when things are going to go back to normal.

chrisseldah1 · 07/04/2020 19:11

*managed

Roussette · 07/04/2020 19:32

Oh Portia I am so sorry, I remember now, your beautiful shoes.

What a big big shame, I hope it will all work out when this 'mare is over. Flowers

I am glad to see people are positive about Megan and Harry on here, I care about the issue because the racism towards her was and is vicious and in light of this I am ashamed of how we as a country appear to the rest of the world.

CallmeAngelina · 07/04/2020 19:55

The UK is one of the most multi-cultural and welcoming countries in the world.
There were some vile things written online by low-life trolls on the internet but they can and should be ignored for the scum that they are, and actually, we have no way of knowing what nationality they are.
Overall, Meghan received a rapturous and warm welcome when she and Harry got together and pretty much right up to Archie being born. Since then, much of any criticism (and yes, there has been a lot) has been directed towards both of them for the petulant disrespect they've shown towards the Queen and the country as a whole.
I have always been an ardent monarchist, and I am dismayed that it has come to this.

Samcro · 07/04/2020 20:22

Oh please
Most of the criticism and lets call it what it is online bullying has been directed at meghan.
Pretending otherwise is being silly

The unfair criticism that I found problematic didn’t even come from just from online trolls. It came from mainstream press despite M doing her duties as expected.

I don’t even understand why M was just expected to not be affected by some of the stuff that she was subjected to in this day and age. Ordinary people would be greatly affected by it , I can’t imagine dealing with that under the glare of the spotlight. I would be saying the same thing if this was Kate or any other celebrity.

I don’t think ordinary people are blamed or accused for the hounding done by the press. I don’t know where Harry or even Meghan blamed the general British public for the hurt they endured. It was evident on her last royal engagements , ( visiting a school in London and meeting Chevening scholars) that those who came across her really liked and appreciated the input she brought to her patronages.

phoenixrosehere · 07/04/2020 21:02

Since then, much of any criticism (and yes, there has been a lot) has been directed towards both of them for the petulant disrespect they've shown towards the Queen and the country as a whole.

What disrespect did they show that made the constant and relentless ridicule acceptable, especially compared to other royals?

Them stepping down, I highly doubt was a surprise to even the Queen. If others who don’t know them personally could see it coming, what makes the Queen exempt.

The Queen, herself, nor the British media are completely innocent bystanders in all this. She was happy to show support to her son , photos of them together who had ties with a pedophile (the media being radio silent until the interview) and bashed her grandson and mainly his wife for planning to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with her mum. Don’t recall any pictures of her with them alone during this time, but remember the many negative posts about how disrespectful they were being for doing so despite William and Kate having spent Christmas with the Middletons in the past.

What’s acceptable for the other royals, doesn’t seem to be the case with Meghan. Why is that and why do many people seem happy for it to be that way?

Samcro · 07/04/2020 21:06

Good question

Port1aCastis · 07/04/2020 21:46

To be blunt if the internet the press and in particular sneers Morgan devoted their life to bitching about me I'd be off on the next plane, why should a human being be treated like a piece of shit and have to stfu and take it, as I always tell dd don't dish the bitch if you don't want it back.

Thanks Rousette and Chrissie we've rebooked the wedding for September but I'm not hopeful!!

phoenixrosehere · 07/04/2020 22:17

Ugh. Piers Morgan, the ringleader of it all.

I’d love to see him sued for all the crap he says and does. I still don’t get how many don’t see how obsessed he is with her and how inappropriate it is. The way he makes it out, they went on a date and she never called him back despite him being married to his current wife at the time yet very few point that out.

CallmeAngelina · 07/04/2020 22:32

The Queen.... bashed her grandson and mainly his wife for planning to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with her mum.

That is absolute nonsense! The Queen never lets her feelings about pretty much anything be known, least of all something like that.

ClapForCats · 07/04/2020 23:16

I agree, Angelina.

Her Majesty just doesn't comment on such things.

ButteryPuffin · 07/04/2020 23:22

Did they spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with Doria, then? I thought they were by themselves with Archie on Vancouver Island, for Christmas at least?

ClapForCats · 07/04/2020 23:28

I thought they were by themselves with Archie on Vancouver Island, for Christmas at least?

They were.

ButteryPuffin · 07/04/2020 23:30

So had they actually planned to spend time with Doria, but after the press 'bashed' them for it, they decided that a better look would be to still not go to Sandringham, but not to see Doria either and just go off for a holiday on their own instead?

Yes.

I reposted what I meant because I had made a mistake.

She was happy to show support to her son, photos of them together who had ties with a pedophile (the media being radio silent until the interview) while the media bashed her grandson and mainly his wife for planning to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with Meghan’s mum.

She may not express her feelings, but her actions can speak for themselves and be judged just like all the other royals and they have been in the past.

Reports also said that they did see Doria for Thanksgiving and Christmas (flying her out to Canada), but of course some rather believe the six weeks that they were in North America, she wouldn’t want to see her only child and that her daughter wouldn’t want to see her 🙄.

ArriettyJones · 08/04/2020 06:10

i do find it hard to understand why there can't be one thread that is not full of critical stuff.

The thing is most people aren’t completely “pro” or completely “anti” (about anything, least of all a controversial royal/public couple who do unusual things).

A lot of us are in the middle somewhere. I don’t really want to commit to being a fan or a detractor. I’m neither, but I do find the whole Megxit business interesting. I used to find the whole “War of the Waleses” saga fascinating too.

I’m broadly republican so I don’t know if I should be ashamed of myself for taking an interest or whether it’s the weirdness of monarchy as a concept that makes it fascinating to me when they go “off piste”.BlushGrin

Plus, the Megxit “story” is constantly changing so people will have varying opinions in each new development.

We are all looking for diversion from this bloody COVID misery so it isn’t surprising that people will join in with frivolous discussions where they can. Very hard to make them conform to a purely positive or a wholly negative opinion.
