A thread for those who wish to discuss what's in the news and what your take on it is.

Dandy your post is valuable because you have a least a level of knowledge no one else here does 😃

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 17:29

It's just annoying @rockingchaircandle. Give it a rest. We shouldn't have to explain every single comment we make. You're not the boss of me! Lol

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 17:30

Just give your counter argument @rockingchaircandle rather than dissecting everything everyone posts.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 17:33

@DeTwamps
Careful another poster sent me a warning!

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 17:33

Normal conversation goes like this:

OP:: By being in Canada, Archie won't see his grandfather Charles.
Reply: Yes, but he'll have his grandmother Doria

How @rockingchaircandle converses

OP:: By being in Canada, Archie won't see his grandfather Charles.
Reply from Rocking: How dare you suggest that! You're wrong! This is all conjecture!

yolofish · 26/01/2020 17:34

I'm getting a little bit pissed off with the arguments about semantics. But that's OK, I'm not the MN police.

Today's Sun Times had a very sympathetic article to M by Rosie Kinchin, about how shit you can feel during pregancy and after birth. Not quite about PND, but about anxiety, the feelings of total responsibility etc. The MoS Doria article was quite sympathetic too (although I really hate the idea of 'dont give it away for free', I mean wtf is that all about? Talk about merch....)

For H, who has lived a very structured life (RF, school, army, back into the RF, Invictus and Sentebale obligations etc) and was on hols for 6 weeks from thanksgiving to xmas - the lack of structure would be difficult IMO.

I think have always tried to post morally and stick to the facts.
Also
And it's not idle gossip on a wider scale, as I've explained. The idle gossip and light-hearted banter is fueling the abusive news cycle targeting the family. These threads aren't innocent entertainment.
Is that your opinion or fact? If fact, do you have sources to support it? (That's the kind of thing you ask posters.)

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/01/2020 17:35

I watched a short documentary last night ( think it might have been National Geographic, on plane so not sure) about the preparation for the wedding.
It was fascinating. All about the specialist companies required. There were 200 dress uniforms produced. All the embroidery was by hand and a collar on ( if I remember correctly, Blues and Royals tunic) took 1 week to complete. The firm worked 14 hour shifts for 6 months to get them done in time.
20 new cerimonial valveless trumpets were required - 1 week each to complete as only one person tgat can make them, these had coat of arms applied, which was apparently a new thing.
Buttons for uniforms were hand made using centuries old equipment.
Charbonnel et Walker produced a bespoke chocolate for the reception.
As the Royal Windsor horse show was the week before, all the infrastructure had to be removed, including 24 hours to remove 500 tonnes of horse shit.
Selection and training of the horses for carriages and escorts.
It was fascinating. When you see the amount of work required, £20 million seems reasonable!

@ilovejeffgoldblum Grin

And to carry on, I think that when Harry met her, he wanted to buy what she was selling, so to speak.

He admired that ambition, assurance & experience with the media, glamour, her intelligence and street-smarts and he wanted to utilise it. I don’t think he had any intention of expecting her to pipe down and cut ribbons in Scunthorpe, not in the longterm anyway.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 17:39

Very perceptive dandy , whatever anyone's opinion on mm , you have to admit she hasn't changed . Ph on the other hand should of known better , he knows how the royals work and that it wouldn't change overnight 🤔

yolofish · 26/01/2020 17:42

I always wonder about this "how boring it is to cut ribbons on a rainy day in Scunthorpe" scenario.

I've worked in PR for almost 40 years. Some of the most interesting clients were the ones where you could initially think how boring they would be. Stuff is as interesting as you make it; if it is your job (as it was for M&H) to find it interesting then that's what you do. There is something interesting to be found wherever you look, if you choose to do so.

Weedsnseeds, that sounds like my kind of programme. It is fascinating to me to see how stuff is done behind the scenes.

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 17:44

I'm a fairly headstrong individual. No loyalty to the Queen (not British). Tend to be the boss in relationships. There is absolutely no way on earth that I could have managed to fit in with the royal family. Well not without feeling I was being crushed into submission anyway! Harry was blinded by love, but he expected too much of Meghan to expect her at her age, to conform. You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 17:48

In any case Meghan's loyalty should be to America - if she has any national pride. It must have been galling to have to constantly bow to all these British inlaws. We all know inlaws can be the bane of our lives. The royal family makes the MIL who feeds the 3 month old chocolate pale in comparison.
Also, I believe the sort of royal circles - the Norfolk crowd etc., never liked Kate. Can you imagine how difficult it must have been for Meghan!! At least Kate was British, had an education these ladies who lunch had etc. Meghan hadn't a bull's notion what she was getting into!

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 17:50

See my opinion is, Harry didn’t expect her to conform. Nor do I think he wanted to cut the proverbial ribbons in proverbial Scunthorpe. He wanted to be glamorous Prince about the world, cherry picking his royal engagements. I think he and MM were very much on the same page about how they’d do things. I think though that Harry probably expected more leniency and admiration from the RF.

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 17:51

Also - for all the negative press Meghan has had - can you imagine waking up to news headlines about your husband's rumoured affair - that's what Kate has had to deal with!

DeTwamps · 26/01/2020 17:56

The RF does seem to have a way of ruining women who marry into it. Diana, Fergie, Meghan. Kate is stoic, but I can only imagine that her life is not a bed of roses. Camilla couldn't give a shit. She's one of them anyway.

MrsDoubtTried · 26/01/2020 17:57

DeTwamps

It's entertaining Froq! To me at least.

Oh bully for you. So if you are responsible for behaviour that leads to a “ bun fight”, will you and your ilk take responsibility for that?

There is nothing the irritants would like better than to see the thread pulled. None of the previous threads have been because contributors have not broken site rules. Find somewhere else for your dubious “entertainment”, why don’t you?

Encyclo · 26/01/2020 17:58

DeTwamps Lol @ Bulls Notion 😂

Another fellow countrywoman?

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/01/2020 17:58

The bit about horse selection, they panned down the row in the stables, pricked ears, pricked ears, ears back.... you're out Dobbin...

MrsDoubtTried · 26/01/2020 17:59

Harry a “ glamorous Prince”? That was never going to happen for the reason that he lacks looks and glamour.

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 18:01

Well no @MrsDoubtTried but we don’t always get what we want, do we?

And there’s no denying that MM is glamorous.

Encyclo · 26/01/2020 18:03

As far the RF goes he's glamorous IMO 🤷‍♀️

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 18:05

Each generation has a young British royal touted as "glamorous."

No one buys it.

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 18:07

The press also tried with Prince Albert of Monaco back in the day.

There is currently a handsome Swedish prince.
