A new thread in which to discuss what happens next in this saga.

And best wishes to mustress and thanks for her excellent thread titles.

Hippo don't be fooled- pink gin is disgusting... unless it's actually marshmallow unicorn gin in which case it is surprisingly lush.

NiceGuyNeddie · 24/01/2020 22:13

Niceguy, you are being unreasonable, I love rose and violet creams. They remind me of my grandmother. I loved my grandmother and eating violet (and rose) creams make me happy

The very name makes me feel queasy, but I don't want to be disrespectful to a GM Wink

My Nan used to like those little purple palma violet sweets, every now and then I would try one and just think it was the most bizarre taste - like eating bathroom talc (good lord! the old days!)

I recommended the rose and violet creams. They are reminiscent of old ladies and bathroom talc ... but in a good way. Grin

like eating talc - omg yes yes! my GF once bought me a cake with angelica on and both he and I threw a massive tantrum because I wouldnt eat it (me because it was disgusting, him because I was 'ungrateful').

I am known for being the only one in our circle to eat the strawberry and orange cream chocolates. Violet & rose is a step way too far though (sorry to pp Nan)

Terrible confession here - but I prefer the sweet, cream sherry.

I am not sophisticated enough for dry sherry over ice

Am looking forward to breakfast. Stornoway black pudding. And the best square sausage the robbing butcher has to offer.

Now I just need to try to get DH not to overcook my fried eggs.

Any tips?

LordOfTheWhys · 24/01/2020 22:21

Make them poached instead? Wink

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 22:21

Just googled palma violet sweets. Grandmothers are (Sad were) amazing...

Marshmallow Unicorn Gin, I googled this as well... I think I will stick to normal gin though.... and put the weird stuff in food or puddings should I be unfortunate enough to be in possession of it...

yolofish · 24/01/2020 22:25

mustress medium heat, enough oil, patience, spit in pan to ensure heat is high enough, break them direct into the pan, turn heat DOWN, patience, spoon some oil over the top to make the white cook quicker, and patience. Also, cut the excess crispy white off!!

yolofish I am not convinced DH will pay any attention to your advice.

I'll bring it to his attention though.

And I am not sure he knows (or wants to learn) how to cook poached eggs.

DH is the de facto breakfast chef chez Mhor.

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 22:29

Mustress, I want your breakfast!!!

TheMustressMhor · 24/01/2020 22:30

Who was it that said they drove past Dumbarton today?

That is very, very close to the Mhor cottage. You should have dropped in.

yolofish · 24/01/2020 22:33

mustress hit him over the head with the frying pan if he wont follow basic instructions?!

Is Dumbarton where there is a whisky distillery which used to have - or may still have - geese outside?

I spent a fair proportion of my youth in Helensburgh (dad at Faslane) and am sure I remember Dumbarton being on the radar (get me with the naval ref!)

Oh yes, Mustress my Nan liked Harveys Bristol Cream sherry in the blue bottles - now that was something I could get on board with!

Poor ol Queen, not too much to ask for a bit of respect from the Grandkids is it??

7Worfs · 24/01/2020 22:34

IT IS DONE! Thank you everyone for your input, I listened to your good advice. Final order, came to about 80-ish:

Windsor Castle apron - I need one anyway

Christmas decorations - Imperial State Crown and a purple Christmas Tree that has a very Prince Albert feel to it

Hazelnut and Chocolate Chip biscuit tube and a Coat of Arms Shortbread biscuit tin

TheMustressMhor good reminder, I'll buy some black pudding tomorrow.

TheMustressMhor · 24/01/2020 22:34

I am known for being the only one in our circle to eat the strawberry and orange cream chocolates

Same here.

You know when you do that thing where you pour out all the Roses from the giant box at Christmas time?

And then you sort them into piles, as anyone with any sense would do?

and no MIL it is not childish or bad manners

I always dig into the orange creams first.

Yum Yum Yum

GuytheBeagle · 24/01/2020 22:35

Hello mustress so glad all went well Thanks
Am worried about dcat and her over active thyroid.
Am out shopping tomorrow for a good steak from thé butcher.

TheMustressMhor · 24/01/2020 22:38

But yolofish

(Takes deep breath)

If I hit DH over the head with the frying pan he would either get very cross with me or become unconscious.

In both situations he might reasonably be expected to be excused Breakfast Duties for the day.

And then I would get no breakfast.

So a lose-lose situation, really.

Anyone else got any ideas which will not lead to potential criminal charges against me?

yolofish · 24/01/2020 22:38

good work 7worfs and actually you have been very thrifty because the biscuit tin will be reusable and therefore a GOOD thing.

bugger hadnt thought of that mustress back to drawing board. To get this back on track, PC is very good at drawing I do believe, and HMQ owns some Leonardo da Vinci drawings?

OP posts:
NiceGuyNeddie · 24/01/2020 22:42

Props to PC for his speech in Palestine

TheMustressMhor · 24/01/2020 22:42

7Worfs just do not come to my village unless you are prepared for the robbing butcher's prices.

Mr. Mhor usually buys the household black pudding from the Co-Op. Fine. I have no complaints it is the fried eggs he always gets wrong but every now and again we push the boat out (sometimes literally as we live near the harbour) and invest in Stornoway Black Pudding.

I am sure that the robbing butcher sees me coming and puts his prices up briefly, just for when I make a rare visit to his emporium.

So beware the robbing butcher, everyone.

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 22:42

Mustress, you need to make him think it was his idea.

I read that men don’t follow cook books as they do not want to be ordered around.

Book: “ season with salt and pepper”
Man: “ I am not having a stupid book telling me what to do”

However, if cook books were written differently...

Book “ some consider the taste improved if salt and pepper is added”
Man: “ Hmm, great idea!”

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 24/01/2020 22:44

That's so true Grace

GracefulHippo · 24/01/2020 22:46

Did anyone see the exhibition at BP of the Leonardo da Vinci drawings? It was really amazing. We combined it with a visit to the mews, DCs loved the horses... and the cars...
