Chris Ship (royal reporter) on Twitter saying the UK press never published photos of them on private walks, even when they had them. Only published photos of royal engagements.

Yet they’ve left the UK to protect their privacy...

I would add that when i was idly thinking about this situation i thought how ironic that he ended up marrying someone almost perfectly bound to attract the gutter press to an extent that he would feel justified in fleeing? Mixed race, older than him, opinionated, strong, and from another country. Lots for the press to pick on and cause enough of a hurtful shit storm for him to then escape from.

I think what I am finding most interesting on these threads is the (usual) narrative of Meghan as some sort of exotic temptress (foofstruck etc) who is controlling Harry, a Rich White Man (a Prince no less) who just isn't in control of himself and needs to be protected.

It's these comments getting bandied around that perpetuate the myth of Kate/good Meghan/bad.

Oh dear I think they have massively misjudged all this. They are banking on their connections with the powerful Elite - the Obamas, the Clooneys, Oprah etc. They only had those connections because they were senior Royals. They provided the likes of Oprah with an 'in' to potentially more powerful people and a powerful circle.

They are out now. The cachet they had is gone. It would have been like Barack and Michelle deciding after 18 months in the White House that they wanted to step back and take a lesser role as there was too much pressure and scrutiny. All respect for them would have been lost in the same way.

I think they will find it is a lot colder out there than they imagined it would be.

Like others here I have swung sometimes to thinking perhaps I have misjudged Meghan. Then she just compounds things by doing something else even more crass. There are so many points where if she’d done things differently the tide would have turned in her favour. I don’t think she cares at all about how she appears In the UK press now. She just wants what she wants and go hang everyone else. Including poor Harry. It’s just a question of how long it will be until he can’t take it anymore.

This is true, although these latest photos of Meghan have just been published by...the UK press. Are they fair game to our papers now they’re no longer working royals and living in a different country?

As someone said, not a single photo of them in Canada over their six weeks break , but in 11 days she’s been photographed at least four times.

I’m also surprised that Archie’s face isn’t pixelated, as many privacy conscious celebs do.

Catching up on the thread, having been woken up by the cat at 5.16 again and finding it hard to stop thinking about Mustress's dinner last night of steak and red peppers in redcurrant sauce.

I may have dreamed this but I'm fairly sure that DH - a no-nonsense Northerner and man of few words - told me last night that Harry was shellshocked to realise that the deal originally cooked up and announced to the world via the "collaborate with the Queen" statement really only concentrated on MM and how it was all going to work out for her, but gave little or no thought to what it would mean for him.

Not being able to use his HRH and losing his military patronages were both hard logical truths and a seismic shock for him.

I explained "foofstruck" to DH and after a moment's pause, he nodded and said, "Yep, foofstruck. Eventually the blood will rush back up to his brain" and carried on eating his dinner.

Homemade boeuf bourguignon if you must know, with new potatoes, roasted carrots and green beans. Followed by homemade apple pie and cream. Not that this in any way competes, of course.

Reading blinds months ago about the reason why they kept Archie’s birth secret and waited a few days to show him, being wanting to monetise the opportunities as much as possible. I didn’t believe them at the time. Well, judging by the amount of ‘papped’ photos since, makes me think I was wrong. This break away from the RF is not about more privacy away from the press. It’s about how to make the most money from the press.
