@MaisWeee Some of these posters are here from the first thread. Shining the torch. Some side tracking food talk is alway's allowed.

augustusglupe · 20/01/2020 13:41

Or tomorrow or next week Hmm

MurrayTheMonk · 20/01/2020 13:41

He's leaving later in the week I read after some more 'meetings'. I wonder what all the meetings are about.
I thought his statement was a little bit pass agg-but hey ho-off they go then-it will be interesting to see what they do next (one assumes not much as they are going for a peaceful life).

I wonder if Edward will be secretly thrilled-he might now be plucked out of obscurity and given some fetes to open!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 20/01/2020 13:41

Harry's speech glossed over the most important thing to have brought them to this point, which was their inability to work within the existing framework of the monarchy as an institution.

If they were committed to service, as he says, they might have done better not to undermine and butt heads with the institution they were trying to serve.

eggandonion · 20/01/2020 13:42

In adult life Edward was far down the pecking order, Diana had her sons while he was a student, then fergie turned up. Poor Edward lacked glamour. Back in the eighties the Kents were also busy, the Duke, Prince and Princess Michael, and Princess Alexandra, plus the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret appeared a bit.
So while there might have been too many royals, they now seem to need a few extra.
Or to take Princess Michael out of mothballs.

TwentyViginti · 20/01/2020 13:42

I would like to meet Anne, she's only a few years older than me, but seemingly has 100x more energy!

yolofish · 20/01/2020 13:44

imaginary cat YES. Service means sublimination...

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 13:46

I wonder if Edward will be secretly thrilled-he might now be plucked out of obscurity and given some fetes to open! That made me laugh!!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/01/2020 13:47

Actually speaking of Princess Michael; the Kents are pretty poor.
(Well compared to other Royals) They had to sell their country house in order to pay a commercial rent for their apartment in Kensington Palace.

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 13:48

Which ones are the Kents?

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 13:48

Is there someone called Princess Michael?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/01/2020 13:49

From The Express:

'After King Edward VIII abdicated he was exiled to France to live with his lover Wallis Simpson but was determined to keep eating like a Royal, flying his breakfast in from England every single day.'

'The fish was supplied by the luxury grocer Fortnum and Mason, a favourite of the Queen'.

"They were craster kippers from Northumberland – very heavily smoked, very very oaky."

Not very environmentally friendly. He did this during the abdication crisis. I'm sure it included wild garlic, goes well with fish.

I suspect Harry will be going back tonight, but the article above points out that the royals have always historically had expensive eating habits, and it's to be questioned if a drop in food standards is something H will also have to deal with (after all he used to hunt for grouse) and whether it will be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Note I've stayed on topicWink

Prince Michael of Kent and Princess Michael of Kent (he is first cousin to the Queen)

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 13:50

Oh just googled and she's very goodlooking! Who did she marry then? Or how is he related?

JulieWaltersSnaggedMyJumper · 20/01/2020 13:51

Princess Michael of Kent was the one that wore a blackamoor brooch on her first meeting with Meghan and later apologised for not realising she had caused racial offence.

MaisWeee · 20/01/2020 13:52

So a son of the fella who abdicated?

MurrayTheMonk · 20/01/2020 13:54

No the abdicator and Wallis were childless.
Not sure who Kent's dad or mum was.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 20/01/2020 13:54

Poor Edward lacked glamour. It's seems service and duty are considered more glamorous these days...

Princess Michael of Kent. Was it intentional? Apparently she had the brooch for a long time and had worn it before. It would have been a really stupid thing for her to do. But then I don't know much about the Kents.

It's a very shitty thing to do on purpose.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/01/2020 13:56

There was a Duke of Kent, who was killed during the war. He was the youngest brother of King Edward VIII (Duke of Windsor) and George VI, the Queen’s father.
He had 2 sons, the current Duke of Kent, his brother, Prince Michael and a daughter, Princess Alexandra of Kent.

There was also a 4 th brother, the Duke of Gloucester. His Heir, died young, so the second son (a Trained Architect) became the current Duke of Gloucester.

SerenDippitty · 20/01/2020 13:56

Prince Michael is the son of Prince George Duke of Kent, a younger son of George V.

JulieWaltersSnaggedMyJumper · 20/01/2020 13:58

MaisWee - no he is a descendant of George V son. I have added a family tree for clarity

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/01/2020 13:58

Prince Michael of Kent's father was Prince George, Duke of Kent. He was the brother of George VI & Edward VIII, so The Queen's Uncle.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/01/2020 13:58

Princess Michael has form for being racist
Her father was revealed to have been a Nazi officer.

JulieWaltersSnaggedMyJumper · 20/01/2020 14:00

sorry SerenDippity I cross posted!

EmeraldShamrock · 20/01/2020 14:00

Will they need to remove their HRH from the website.
I can picture Meghan counting the views on their website.
I've probably added 50 views since it was launched. Blush
