I don’t feel anything towards them, ie not happy for them nor down on them, I don’t know if they’re lovely or not (probably average like most) but if I had to bet I’d say they were motivated by wanting to look after each other.

woodchuck99 · 18/01/2020 19:49

Anyone else have a thought that tey have at least one benefactor bankrolling them? After all how could they possibly pay back the £2.4 million paid to update theor house?

Are you being facetious? Obviously Prince Charles bankrolls them but he did that anyway.

HuggedTrees · 18/01/2020 19:49

Fucks sake people.
They’ll still be “Prince Harry” “duke of Sussex” etc. Well done them for wanting to have control of their lives. Why should Megan have had to have worn dresses/coat dresses/tights when she was perfectly respectful wearing what she did?
Of course they’ll make far more money and people will want them as brand ambassadors.

Princess Beatrice and Eugenie don’t receive funding, and of course they only got their jobs because of who they are and what prestige they bring to the company, just like Zara does in her job etc. Harry isn’t going to be king so he can live his life how he wants.

If William didn’t want to be king that is also ok too!

I like Harry and Meghan and wish them the best of luck. Find it slightly odd than they are dropping the HRH bit though, why? But it must have been agreed between them. It's good they will no longer take public money, maybe that will shut their detractors up a bit.

I wonder if they were planning for this all along? Could that be why they gave their son such a distinctly unregal name?

I don't blame Harry one bit for wanting to get away from what must be a stifling existence in the royal firm. He is obviously still shaped by what happened to his poor mother, and hopefully he will be able to get a bit more peace.

It's a pity about Meghan, I thought she was lovely and would be a breath of fresh air for the royals. I can't help feeling the royal family are a bit toxic, and it's good Archie won't be brought up around people like Prince Andrew.

The Queen has always done her royal duties faithfully but after she goes, I think that should be it. No interest in Charles as king. The institution is outdated and can't really be justified any longer.

BlouseAndSkirt · 18/01/2020 19:50

Harry being on active service
Harry getting publicly tested for HIV to challenge the stigma
Harry talking about Mental Health to the full appreciation of everyone who works in the sector
etc
etc.

Harry putting up with years of stupid gossip about his parentage
Walking behind his mother's coffin
His teen years without her

The comparisons that Huff Post did over the treatment of Meghan v Kate.

What a nasty load of keyboard warrior gossips some of you are.

beanaseireann · 18/01/2020 19:52

So they will still be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex just not their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Like it will make any bl*ody difference.
I agree withPicsInRed and PrettyPity re Andrew

econowifey · 18/01/2020 19:53

They are not a lovely couple

sonjadog · 18/01/2020 19:55

I also think this might have been the plan all along.

2MapleMuffins · 18/01/2020 19:55

well Zara got her jobhbecause she is an extraordinary horsewoman and eventer. She gets sponsorship mostly based on that. Because you cannot be a top flight eventer just because of money. you have to have talent, and unbelievable skill.

I think PH's main skill is being a likeable sort who communciated well with the public. Can he turn that into a paying gig?

StealthPolarBear · 18/01/2020 19:57

Why do people assume they will divorce

SoupDragon · 18/01/2020 19:57

PMSL at "stripped of their titles" 😂 Do you write headlines for the Sun?

noodlenosefraggle · 18/01/2020 19:57

Even if they do get divorced, it will hardly be unusual for the Royals, will it? The Queens sister is divorced, as are 3 of her 4 children. So her own children have a higher divorce rate than the general population. And that is without the stresses of normal marriages like money or arguing over who does more housework or childcare. It will just be par for the course. Another divorce in a family of divorcees.

Todaythiscouldbe · 18/01/2020 19:58

@econowifey do you know them?

Hoik · 18/01/2020 19:58

Prince Charles supports Harry (and William) through the money from the Duchy of Cornwall. Harry also has inheritance money from various family members. I think I've read his net worth quoted as £35 million. Meghan's net worth prior to meeting him has been estimated at $5 million. Talk of a mystery benefactor bankrolling them is a bit tin-hatty, isn't it?

Hoik · 18/01/2020 20:00

Why do people assume they will divorce

Because people are arseholes and carry a lot of hatred and spite towards a couple they have no private knowledge of.

KatherineJaneway · 18/01/2020 20:00

So she should. You want the fruits, you play the game.

PlumsGalore · 18/01/2020 20:01

Can someone explain what ties H&M have with Canada that will enable them to live there for extended periods of time?

I mean, it’s not like you can just rock up there and decide to stay, you need a visa or citizenship.

Harry is hardly likely to get a skilled work visa with his two a-levels one of which is a bit dodgy and the other a D.

Supersimkin2 · 18/01/2020 20:03

no HRH because when she gets divorced Meghan won't get to keep it anyway, viz Diana, Fergie and Wallis Simpson.

She can't not be styled as a duchess tho', because she's married to a duke. And, like all 3 other girls, she would lose it if she remarried, so something tells me she, like them, can't.

MaisWeee · 18/01/2020 20:06

I'm more concerned that they are giving back the 2.4 mil spent on their house rather than giving away their titles. Call themselves whatever they fucking like.

slashlover · 18/01/2020 20:06

@Supersimkin2

no HRH because when she gets divorced

Why do you think they (not just Meghan) will get divorced?

Frequency · 18/01/2020 20:07

This is just vile and people wonder why the couple want to extricate themselves from british and royal life as much as possible Hmm

Babybel90 · 18/01/2020 20:08

Good for them, I wonder if the money for the renovations will be paid back all at once or in instalments (that never happen and we all forget about it)?

Jomarchsburntskirt · 18/01/2020 20:11

They’ll still be duke and duchess which is ridiculous. She’ll never set foot back in the uk. I think the whole concept of a royal family in today’s day and age is so antiquated. I’d be happy to see them all go. Andrew will be dancing a jig that he’s been knocked off the front pages.

MrsJoshNavidi · 18/01/2020 20:13

I asked this on another of the million threads about H&M. You can't just turn up and live in a country, nor can you do paid work there without some kind of visa. How's it going to work?

PortiaCastis · 18/01/2020 20:14

Why wouldn't the Duchess set foot in the UK with her husband and why say "she" as the Queen's statement applies to both her Grandson and his wife.
Awful lot of assumption going on
