I really hope the Queen doesn't decide to make the baby a prince. We need a slimmed down monarchy.

He'll be a prince automatically when his grandfather becomes King so it would only be bringing forward the title rather than adding an extra prince into the mix.

Sybelline · 06/05/2019 15:24

They should go for something a bit leftfield. All the usual suspect names are a bit dull.

AppleKatie · 06/05/2019 15:24

Alexander?

MissEliza · 06/05/2019 15:29

Well they seem to want a 'modern' image but giving their child a title it doesn't have to have doesn't fit with that.

Alsohuman · 06/05/2019 15:31

The Queen has zero interest in a modern image. All the European Royal families still have their royal titles.

SenecaFalls · 06/05/2019 15:32

He already has a title as a Duke's son, a courtesy one. He's Lord Dumbarton.

Sybelline · 06/05/2019 15:33

When I heard Harry say 'Meghan and myself had a baby boy' I immediately thought of Pedants' Corner Grin

AppleKatie · 06/05/2019 15:37

I immediately thought ‘MN won’t like that, however happy you are mate you’ve haven’t ‘had’ a baby’ 😂

Then I told myself it was cute he’s so excited and to get over myself!

Itsnotmesothere · 06/05/2019 15:38

@Sybelline. Perhaps I should get out more but I was quite surprised at his error!

Sybelline · 06/05/2019 15:50

It's contagious! Even the privileges of an education from Eton doesn't make one immune it would seem.

SenecaFalls · 06/05/2019 16:12

William says "Catherine and I" when he should be saying "Catherine and me" sometimes.

AppleKatie · 06/05/2019 16:13

Eton is no guarantee of perfect grammar. It’s a school, the teaching might be excellent but the pupil has to do the learning!

Dana28 · 06/05/2019 16:15

*He'll be a prince automatically when his grandfather becomes King so it would only be bringing forward the title rather than adding an extra prince into the mix."
Is that true? Why aren't prince Edwards children when their gm is monarch?

Sybelline · 06/05/2019 16:15

Well yes. And Harry doesn't strike me as the sort to have been an overly eager student. Not that he needed to be.

AGnu · 06/05/2019 16:16

I'm predicting Spencer will be one of his middle names. Maybe Markle or Ragland too. I'd like Alexander as a first name. They could call him Xander.

SenecaFalls · 06/05/2019 16:17

Edward and Sophie's children are technically princess and prince, but a decision was made that they would be styled with the titles of children of an Earl.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/05/2019 16:22

Lovely news about the baby; I really liked the way Harry spoke to the media, and doesn't he look thrilled Smile

It's looking like he might have been born at home after all?

MissEliza · 06/05/2019 16:26

Seneca I think that was a good decision which will allow them to lead semi normal lives as adults. Edward and Anne both made sensible choices in bringing up their children and it seems to have paid off.

ElizabethG81 · 06/05/2019 16:38

I feel like the BBC are trying to gaslight us. They've got reporters at Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace saying things like "the crowds are gathering", "everyone's so excited", when all I can see is a few people at the gates of Buckingham Palace and some people strolling around Windsor on a Bank Holiday Monday. The only people they've managed to speak to about their "excitement" so far are an American woman, some German women and a few other reporters. It's bizarre.

icannotremember · 06/05/2019 16:38

Alexander would be lovely. I also really like Robert but I'd be surprised if they used it. I hope she had a lovely birth.

Sybelline · 06/05/2019 16:48

Glad to see some of the daft as a box of frogs superfan brigade had their day out! Grin

I think some elements of the BBC are trying to make it bigger news than it is. Nick Witchell did his best to remind everyone that this baby is not really in the same league as the Cambridges, constitutionally.

Wonderful for Harry, Meghan and immediate family though, I hope they are left alone now to enjoy the thrill of it all.

AppleKatie · 06/05/2019 17:07

I’ll eat my hat if Spencer, Markle or Ragland are anywhere near the name!

Alexander Arthur Francis Phillip is my best guess.

ElizabethG81 · 06/05/2019 17:07

It's hilarious. They're into the 3rd hour of the "Royal Baby News Special" now, and no one's really got anything to say. They've just had someone else reporting from some shops in Windsor saying how everyone's come out, it's so busy, etc. It looks like most town centres do nowadays, a few people shuffling along. It's like the reporters have been given a script but it just doesn't match with the live pictures. I think the editor's decided to treat this like a Cambridge birth, but the interest just isn't there.

I agree that it's wonderful news for Harry, Meghan and the family, but the mismatch between what the reporters are saying and what's actually happening is embarrassing.

Sybelline · 06/05/2019 17:09

Talking about the birth of a new royal baby must be like being a QVC presenter. You just need to keep the gushing going no matter how long it takes and keep thinking of chirpy new ways to present the same few facts. Must be exhausting!
