@JaceLancs it is such a massive loss. I said goodbye to my lovely Joancat 6 weeks ago today so very much emphathise.

I really like this series in the Guardian. It reminds me that lots of other people have had adored pets and had to say goodbye to them, but still think of them all the time.

I'm really sorry @JaceLancs for what's happened to Finlay and all the other unfortunate things that have happened to your family while you are alone abroad. I hope your DD and DGD will arrive shortly in good health. It's not surprising that you are finding it tough by yourself. Don't envy you the 38 degree temperature either. I'm enjoying the 20 degrees max with rain we're experiencing in my part of the UK.

Sending you love and hugs too JoanOgden ❤ I still miss my furry firstborn quite deeply even after several years. Having The Stray does help a little.

My sympathy @JoanOgden. 💐

@JoanOgden so sorry about Joancat- can you post your favourite picture

JoanOgden · 01/09/2026 13:59

Thank you everyone! I posted a slightly self-indulgent thread about Joancat at the time, here:

Oh honey that's not self-indulgent at all!
She was gorgeous.
I do love a black cat.

I've posted on a recent 'should I get a cat as we are planning to have children' thread. (I'm in favour 😻)
I was reminded of this photo of Monty aged about 6 months with DS1 aged about zero, taken nearly 30 years ago. I thought people on this thread might appreciate it. Monty became his shadow - and lasted over 20 years - the most gentle cat we ever had.

Lovely picture @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats
@JoanOgden so sorry to hear about your loss too - it’s so hard the more we love them the greater the pain

JaceLancs · 01/09/2026 18:49

@MiniPantherOwner @CatsonPollock DD and DGD arrive next week - I’m away for 3 weeks and they are joining me on my last week 😊

Yes, but I do think it has to be the right cat. Some of my fosters would have been fine but I can only imagine Kitty’s horror if I introduced something small, smelly & shrieky into her home & she realised it was staying.

JaceLancs · 01/09/2026 19:02

@triile @EmpressaurusKitty @Pudmyboy and anyone else I’ve not tagged - I’m ok with memes and sentimental sayings and often send them myself - I will embrace a new kitty when I’m ready - I’ll know when it’s right time too, although I’m devastated about Finlay he was never destined to be a cat that grew into old age gracefully he was far too adventurous
I still miss his predecessor Reuben who was grey and white - so will be definitely looking for another boy
DD always picks good names and they have to be human names, I’ve told her to start thinking already
DS tells me it would be good to get a kitten over the winter period as we have no holidays planned and staying in to keep warm will help them settle in
I’m not sure how much convincing I need as right now I just have a huge void
All my life I’ve had cats, 2 minimum most at one time was 6, but there was something about Finn that told me he needed to be a one and only!
The shock of losing Reuben and Evie in under a week 3-4 years ago took its toll and I knew I was healing when I started eying up kittens on holiday
This time it just makes me sad

JaceLancs · 01/09/2026 19:05

RumNotRun · 01/09/2026 21:59

@JaceLancswhen you are ready, will you take some Lego to the shelter to see which cats feel drawn to it?

JaceLancs · 02/09/2026 06:31

@RumNotRun thank you - you gave me my first smile of the day
I can just imagine me wandering around the cages rattling a bag of Lego instead of dreamies and saying ‘here kitty kitty’ 🤣🤣

EmpressaurusKitty · 02/09/2026 06:59

Someone on another thread was saying that she’d very carefully sorted lots of tiny bits of dark blue Lego, left the room for a second & when she came back her long-haired cat was sitting on them. Apparently they all got stuck in his fur.

Allergictoironing · 02/09/2026 09:37

@JaceLancs you will know when the time is right. @Anniegetyourgun left it about 2-3 years after losing her beloved Bubbles, time which included a visit to the rescue to help me get Tobias. That visit started her thinking about maybe it was time, but still took her a few months before she got hers. Whereas I know people who have been so bereft at not having a cat that they have started looking the next week.

I actually started casual looking in the 2 weeks between me booking Boycat in to be PTS and the dreaded day itself, but that was because I was pretty sure that Girlcat would be so bereft she would need a companion as an indoor only cat. I was right, and will do the same again when it gets to Tobias's time. But that wasn't for me but for Girlcat.

They'll probably think it's Dreamies anyway.

Kitty’s thoroughly pissed off at the moment. She had her worm treatment on the back of her neck & now it’s raining.

Breadcat24 · 03/09/2026 16:51

After a mouse from Micia (understandable as she used to have to feed herself) I am looking at the Zeromouse 2.0 -has anyone got one?
