Can't help feeling there may be something amiss with something I ordered...

WTF has Linney brought me?

To my horror, Gizmo ran out when he heard Linney returning with the rodent, and I was worried that he'd try to dismember it.

So I enticed him back in with a pouch of duck-flavoured Whiskas.

Lex is angry at me cause I only gave him one while chicken breast despite him knowing I'd cooked at least 12 (broken freezer door!) I put out 5 chopped up, so one each, and I ate one but apparently that's selfish so he is sulking. The other cats are happily in chicken induced sleep.

@RumNotRun has Lexter got furrier of face lately or am I imagining it? He looks quite fluffy there!

Allergictoironing · 06/08/2026 08:13

I agree - he definitely looks hairier in that pic 😀

EmpressaurusKitty · 06/08/2026 09:27

We’re back from the vet, Kitty’s perfectly healthy & was very brave, if understandably pissed off.

She knew something was going on & treats only got us as far as the hall, but I was able to shut us both in there, put the carrier upright & lift her in backwards (helpful tip from someone). So all good.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 06/08/2026 10:29

Well done Kitty.
You're a very brave girl.

Rum. Lex does seem to have more fur on his face recently.

That rat (or whatever it was) that Linney deposited on the front path last night has disappeared.

I was taking some rubbish out and realised that it wasn't there anymore.

I suppose it wasn't actually dead?

Cheeky Takeaway for Picard or Suzy (sp?)?

RumNotRun · 06/08/2026 11:08

Lex is looking a bit fluffier all over, but in a scruffy way 😂 He still has a few naked bits, they don't seem to change, but his fur where he has it does seem to be getting thicker.

I bought a new cat carrier cause the old one has been used to carry Vixen and Frank to their final appointments so it's bad luck now. I've put the new one out in the hopes at least one of the cats would sleep in/on it and get used to it but they're all giving it a wide berth. Clearly they're too clever for my machinations.

Maybe leave treats in it & see if they disappear?

I've seen corvids pick up abandoned cat rodents before...

@RumNotRun what is going on with the cat wheel?

@RumNotRun what is going on with the cat wheel?

Not a lot! Since the hot weather, all toys and play things have been abandoned. I'm hoping as it cools down I'll be able to entice them onto the wheel again. If not, I may hide it for a while and bring it back out when they've forgotten about it!

I do feel guilty sometimes about Kitty not being able to roam but she’s got her balcony, and lots of high perches, and she seems happy.

Someone on my estate takes a Persian cat for walks on a lead. I don’t think she’d appreciate that at all.

I understand where you're coming from. I originally planned on adopting a cat who would have free reign to go outside, my house even came with a cat flap. Cats Protection would only let me rehome cats if they were going to be kept inside because I'm very close to a main road. I do let my two outside to wander around the back yard, now they're older and I can trust them not to run off I leave them to it. I do think Matilda would have been a formidable hunter for better or worse when she was younger.

I did during covid lockdowns decide that the beasts should enjoy walks on a lead. Matilda managed to houdini herself out of it in record time and Boris just flopped over onto his side and refused to walk anywhere. So they made their opinions clear.

I would be delighted to receive that package with whichever mystery Grumpy cat was enclosed. Matilda and Boris might have been less keen though.

EmpressaurusKitty · 06/08/2026 21:20

@HumanToCatBeasties I wonder if cats need to be trained on leads from kittenhood to be ok with them.

To confirm - in our house only Basil has quite such a magnificent tail 😻

Toad, Ghostie, and Vixen (RIP) were fine with a lead even though I only start using them a few years back. Ghost does turn into a bit of an octopus when I'm trying to put the harness on her (impressive on her part as she only has three legs!) but is fine once it's on. I often hook them over the metal poppies I have in the garden so the cats can wander a bit but I don't have two cats trying to pull me in opposite directions. They are quite happy to have a sniff around and then lie somewhere and enjoy the sun. Toad likes to lick the stone walls cause he's weird but Ghost and Vix like/liked curling up in the shade and just relaxing. I've got no chance of getting a harness on Raven and Fred but they aren't really interested in outside much.

I know this has nothing to do with this thread, but I've finally reached my goal weight after two and a half years, and am now 9st 9lb and a size 8 - 10.

This is me before Mounjaro

OMG Broon that's brilliant!

Sadly on my Local Government salary and having a mortgage there's no way I can afford to go private, and NHS prescribing rules say you need 4 things (on their list of 5) before they will prescribe. Nurse was NOT impressed when I suggested I should stuff myself silly with all types of bad food so I develop Type 2 Diabetes!
