Obviously Gizmo was trying to do his bit for the household, as he knows you've been ill lately and someone has to bring home food!

Defiantly41 · 03/08/2026 08:06

Wow, Broon, that photo at the V.E.T. really shows how erm, muscly, Gizmo is!

CatsonPollock · 03/08/2026 08:21

Innocent! The mouse just walked into my mouth, m'lud...

..... and I accidentally tore off its head and tail when out for my evening stroll.

Gizmo does look quite chunky 😼, did he get on the scales?

Yes. He's 6.2kg.
🤣 and he's now on a diet.

Wow. I got told off when Agatha was at 4.5! She's back at 4.2, now. Mind you, she caught a bird this morning, so may be protesting her reduced rations. ☹️

Allergictoironing · 03/08/2026 19:13

OMG don't let them see that about Agatha on the "cat's shouldn't be allowed to roam unsupervised" thread!

I had a post removed on that thread. Apparently calling out people who threaten to shoot cats goes against MN guidelines...

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 03/08/2026 19:44

I think Gizmo is being maligned.
He probably just accidentally sat on the mouse and it spontaneously exploded under his weight.

I think the only reason I wasn't, was because a poster was thick enough to not realise that I'd quoted their post in full and responded to it, then quoted a different post in italics and inverted commas regarding the "culling" comment. Somehow the first poster thought I mean I was misquoting THEM!

I notice nobody has commented about my remarks regarding a) we had wildcats and lynxes here anyway for millennium and b) those "cute" little rats with tails AKA grey squirrels have only been in the UK for 150 years.

Now you're maligning him, Grumpy.
Poor Gizmo.

Good!

I can't bear people who think it's fine to recommend cruelty to animals.

I mean, obviously, some of the TGs are senseless. Especially the ones which occasionally lead to the old ban hammer pour moi.

My thread was removed BECAUSE I'd had a go at someone saying she would shoot cats in her garden.
Her original post is still there...

CatsonPollock · 04/08/2026 11:48

So let me get this right, MN is condoning breaking the law but you can't call it out because... boo hoo, you're being mean? 🙄

(is it against MN law to discuss another thread? I can never keep up with all that stuff)

Yes, it is, but they won't know if nobody reports it.

That thread really highlighted that there are a good proportion of bonkers people on Mumsnet!
(Grumpy and Allergic and anyone else from this thread who tried to talk sense and reason, are exempted of course!)
Edited as autocorrect inserted an unfortunate 'not' !
That or I had a Frasier moment....

JaceLancs · 04/08/2026 22:52

Some people just don’t understand that many cats prefer the wild! Finlay would hate being confined - he was born on a farm and being caged after his accident traumatised him badly so he becomes very stressed if not allowed out - although heavy rain tonight means he’s in for a change

Allergictoironing · 05/08/2026 07:15

"Ah but we train dogs and train them to just go out on leads, so cats are just as easy to train" - whole different species feline vs canid, solo vs pack animals, domesticated around 8-10k years rather than around 30-50k years, I could go on.

But - "who will think of the birds", while ignoring the RSPB's own studies on the subject.

You can probably imagine most of the rest of the 680-odd comments...

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 05/08/2026 07:24

Sadly that kind of thread always brings out the cat haters.
I think anyone who claims that they hate cats has a serious personality disorder.

EmpressaurusKitty · 05/08/2026 10:24

I do feel guilty sometimes about Kitty not being able to roam but she’s got her balcony, and lots of high perches, and she seems happy.

Someone on my estate takes a Persian cat for walks on a lead. I don’t think she’d appreciate that at all.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 05/08/2026 12:17

Gizmo approaches DS1 for head scratches while Linney looks on from his spot in the corner.
