......... and try to break into the film industry.

It'll be an unlikely success as they'll have to stay awake for long periods while filming goes on.

Well. Unless they decide to make Carry On Sleeping.

Heavens Allergic. Two shedders in the same residence.

Herbie just came in with a mouse in his mouth!!
He was growling under the dining room table so we chased him out through the catflap with it. Don't want to deal with it.
Maybe it was a birthday present for Kitty!

Also remember that even basic housework is painful due to the spinal stenosis; anything where I have to do bending for more than a few seconds or repetitive physical tasks hurts. I tend to pretend that the upstairs hall carpet was always that colour.

At least with Tobias it's obvious; Girlcat is a "stealth shedder".

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 28/03/2026 22:06

All of ours moult like crazy - but Sybil will definitely give Gizmo a run for his money in the shedding stakes. She seems to leave wispy clouds of grey fur behind her whenever she moves.

Breadcat24 · 28/03/2026 22:09

Just learning about long hair cats and shedding. Thought Bready was bad. We are on a whole new level with Micia

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/03/2026 23:21

My NMK Hamish is only 8 months old but he's already showing that he'll give the adult cats a run for their money in the Longest Cat Competition.

I suppose he could be in the Longest Kitten category. As the only entrant (thus far) he'll win.

You'll have to click on the picture to understand the full extent of Hamish's longness. My friend sent it to me, wondering why he felt the need to extend himself across an entire double bed.

Oh, Wilson enjoying ‘cat tv’, @Ahsheeit . Mine do as well. As the tv is freestanding, girl cat then goes to look behind the screen.

I have to ask, is your user name from ‘The Wire’?

learieonthewildmoor · 29/03/2026 04:51

Cat One is long but is refusing to co-operate. He would not come close in a shedding competition but would be a strong contender for vomiting hairballs on the bed.
Cat Four aspires to Sybil’s level of greatness in shedding : this is the kind of fur she leaves behind when she sits on my chest at night.
Cat Two is tabby+tortie and is a decent shedder so could be in the competition but I would have to brush her to get evidence and this would require a bit of chasing, so not today.

Belated happy birthday to Kitty, Empress. She is such a pretty cat with that dilute calico. 😍

learieonthewildmoor · 29/03/2026 05:48

Cat Four was introduced to the printer for the first time yesterday. She much prefers Rosemary the robot vacuum cleaner.

For some reason I firmly believe vacuum has double c and I am always fighting with auto-correct over it.

Celebrating Happy Birthday GIF by ikas

Happy Birthday for yesterday to Kitty!

The cat in the Gif looks like Gizmo - has he got a side-hustle as a model which he has neglected to disclose to me?

Only very loosely cat related but please tell me that bad things are quite happy to stop after the rule of three...
Noticed a horrendous drainage blockage last weekend (think manhole cover raised about 9 inches on a pillow of sewage). £200 bill to dynorod.
Had an eye test this this week and not only need new glasses at £800 but have been told I'm starting to develop cataracts (on top of completely shit eyesight generally plus an increased reading prescription.)
Then last night came in to find water on the utility room floor next to the litter tray. Initially assumed somone had missed (🙀) but then realised it was far too much for a cat accident. Spent bloody hours mopping up cat litter encrusted water before finding the rising main (hidden behind the cat litter tray) was leaking. Emergency plumber arrived at about eleven, left well gone one in the morning - £490 bill, and the sodding clocks have changed.
Because of this, the litter tray is in the kitchen this morning. Basil did a huge shit in it while we were eating breakfast.
The world is out to get me...

Edited

Thank you! She’s currently sprawled out with her banana.

Gizmo’s probably working on his influencer career.

That all sounds shit, Grumpy, hope things improve from here.

Thank you - quite literally in two cases too 💩
(First time I've ever had cause to use the poo emoji btw)

Allergictoironing · 29/03/2026 09:57

From a slightly encouraging point of view, getting cataracts sorted is a very quick process these days. I was in and out of the clinic in about an hour, and NHS paid for it.

The worst part is the week or so where you feel like you have sharp edged rocks in your eye, then life gets so much better than it was before the procedure. They do one eye, give you a couple of months to recover, then the other.

RumNotRun · 29/03/2026 10:17

Grumpy, that sounds like an absolute nightmare!

Happy belated birthday to Kitty. The banana looks like it's going to have lots of attention.

I am off to do the "fire walk" this afternoon. I hope the predicted rain holds off or that there's a shelter for the coals. I have told the cats that I will be out for the evening and will leave extra food but I am still fully expecting judgement when I get back home (hopefully without burnt feet!)

EmpressaurusKitty · 29/03/2026 10:21

Oh wow. Good luck @RumNotRun!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 29/03/2026 10:47

Good luck with the firewalk @RumNotRun. You're a braver person than I am 😁

Cnon · 29/03/2026 10:55

Happy Birthday Kitty

RumNotRun · 29/03/2026 19:58

All done and I am home with no burnt feet 😁 It was quite fun. I would do it again but could have done without the horrible weather!

Was it raining like mad?
It was here - even for Argyll it was wild.

No firewalk for me thanks!
Visiting DD in London and it's pretty wet.
Lovely day out and finishing with a concert at Royal Festival Hall. Beethoven 5th piano concerto and Mendlessohn Scottish symphony.
Now setting off home and hoping Herbie hasn't brought another little friend in

Ooh, I'd have enjoyed that concert.
