......... and try to break into the film industry.

It'll be an unlikely success as they'll have to stay awake for long periods while filming goes on.

Well. Unless they decide to make Carry On Sleeping.

Good job from Herbie! And wishing DS a quick recovery, @Pianoaholic.
Looks like FC2 is due to move at the weekend. I'm so pleased it has worked out, he's such a lovely cat and just needs lots of attention and cuddles! It's up in the air who we are welcoming next. Either the grumpy sickly girl cat (the outcome of her tests is due back by the end of the week), a very cuddly placid tabby boy who is about 1, or two rambunctious tuxedo boy kittens who are 5 months old. Their siblings have already been homed but these two aren't getting picked because they're a bonded pair and one of them is very "lively".

Gizmo likes being furminated.

He sheds a great deal of fur, much more than Linney does, but Linney is the one who has a tendency to get mats.

I'm surprised Gizmo is sheddy - he looks quite sleek!

All of our cats shed like mad - I remember Gizmo doing so as well.

We seem to live knee deep in fur pile carpets...

Tobias is another tabby who looks quite sleek, but boy does he shed! Upstairs hall carpet is now twice as thick as it was before he arrived - luckily it's a similar colour (sort of sandy).

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/03/2026 22:39

I've had three tabby cats now, and they've all shed much more than any of the others.

Of all my cats, Linney has the longest fur and sheds the least amount.

He grooms himself really well.

@Pianoaholic Hope your son has a speedy recovery.

Matilda sheds loads of fur, I had hopes the furminator would help, but it didn't even when I managed to brush a massive ball of fur off her. Boris has very fine fur and doesn't shed much at all.

Pudmyboy · 05/03/2026 09:17

Pud, another tabby, used to shed. At one point he liked to sleep at the top of the bed, near my pillow, and I used to wake up in the night having a massive coughing fit from what I eventually worked out was from inhaling one of his fine hairs. All resolved when he moved to sleep at the bottom of the bed.

Agatha sheds quite a lot for a short-haired cat. Thankfully she loves the grooming gloves. 1 to chew/ drool on, and 1 for me to use on her. This time of year, I put the pieces of "fur carpet" up high in my hazel shrub, so the birds can use it to line nests etc.. It's quite satisfying to peel the single pieces off the gloves. I usually get 2 per grooming session before Agatha comes over all unnecessary and pet-aggressive.

I'm sorry to be that person but if you use flea or tick treatment then you mustn't put the fur out for the birds as it can kill the babies. Same for anything long as it gets tangled around their feet/throat and cuts circulation, such as human hair or long fur.

We recommend putting out natural plant materials, such as moss raked from the lawn or grasses, or nesting wool. However, we advise against people putting out pet hair as nesting material for birds, due to the risk of it being contaminated with chemicals that could be used to treat fleas (or worms and other medical conditions).

We are definitely going have a lot of fur to deal with1 Black cat, beige carpets on the landings and stairs. What were we thinking! Thank goodness the rest is rugs and wood floor.

stormsandsunshine · 05/03/2026 14:15

Stripey is very sleek and doesn’t normally shed much, but at this time of year even she is shedding everywhere.
Snowcat has very dense fur and she sheds like crazy.
Furminator plus slicker brush works well on Snowcat and she quite likes being brushed and will roll over to let you do it. Because Stripey’s fur is short she only likes a very soft brush which doesn’t do much to reduce shedding.

Wonderful @Breadcat24 ! She is making so much progress and you have been so patient with her. It must feel amazing to be winning her trust.

stormsandsunshine · 05/03/2026 14:52

Stripey is making definite progress with her fear of the outdoors and the wind now that the weather is warm enough to leave the door open again.
She even forgot she was scared of going out when she saw a fly outside. Then while chasing it around the patio she suddenly realised where she was and came scuttling back inside.

Can you get those sticky rollers (for clothing), on a stick, to go over your carpets? Or, am I correct in thinking rubber brooms are good for this?

This is for all the slaves to shedders

stormsandsunshine · 05/03/2026 17:11

On another thread which I can't now find, this product was recommended for those of us who have shedders:

https://thehambledon.com/products/lint-brush-beige#

I eventually cracked and bought one despite thinking that £15 is ridiculous for a lint brush. It is expensive but it is a game changer. Way way better than the rollers I've tried before and easy to clean.

Lint Brush Dark Grey

This modern garment brush in dark grey is a sustainable alternative to the tape roller, keeping your clothes and furniture flawless and dust and hair free.
