She’s gone for her second stage dental. The plan is to take all her teeth out. As long as they don’t cause trauma getting them out. I think they are bothering her. So fingers crossed she feels better.

The dressing on the tube has come unstuck and Its flapping in her eyes. So I’ve gave her some water then took it out. Shes eaten a bit more overnight. And slept on my pillow for the first time since the surgery. So hopefully she’s turned a corner.

Oh gosh - poor Penelope 😞

we have gone from bad to worse here - saw consultant today who concluded eye problem likely related to dental surgery (needle went too close to eye) and it’s very likely she will lose her eye. Going to try meds for few days but bracing for worst early next week. Totally shellshocked and just so sad. But here she is, relaxing on my knee in between endless medications and recovering from rush hour motorway trip

That is so sad @umberpigeon I didn't even know that was a risk with dental surgery. She's a beautiful cat - I do hope she's ok

AlwaysRightISwear · 21/11/2025 08:19

Best wishes to both cats.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2025 18:09

@umberpigeonhow is she doing?

All her dry food has gone. And the cleaver said she washed an empty bowl. She’s currently eating like she’s not eaten for a year. Hopefully she’s turned the corner!

Excellent news!

tinyspiny · 21/11/2025 21:01

That’s great news , I hope your cat also gets well soon @umberpigeon

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2025 22:22

Think I’ll give her another day or two of strong pain killers, as the appetite stimulant will wear off tomorrow. I do have some more, but don’t want to use it unless I have too.

@umberpigeonhow is she doing?

She’s ok thanks - really not liking the million and one meds around the clock but is carrying on with life in a very stoic fashion, in the manner of Princess Anne. I’m just letting her do what she wants for now and she’s spending her time on the radiator hammock then popping outside in the freezing weather to explore. She’s now blind in that eye but luckily we don’t have too many traffic hazards where we live.

I feel so bad - she had such a terrible start in life and now this. I’ve got zero hope for the eye being saved and wonder if it was the right thing to try treating it first but it’s so, so hard to make a quick decision about a medical condition you had never heard of an hour previously

I feel so angry that this will cost a fortune to sort out too (yes insured but excess, claim limit, admin fee, 20% not paid out blah blah £££££££)

meanwhile Princess Anne is settling down for the night and I’m eyeing up (no pun intended) the next set of meds before bed. The oral meds are dead easy but eye drops are something else!

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2025 22:58

I was relieved that my girl stayed at the vets when she injured her eye. I was working and just could t do the drops as regularly as she needed. I’m a pro at giving cats eye drops now.

I’ve not given the really strong painkillers killer this morning and the mirtazipine will wear off today. So will see how she goes. Can always restart if needed. The sting pain killer makes her a bit spaced out. She was back in my face overnight and curled up by my feet for most of the night as usual.

Sounds quite promising for both the unwell cats. Best to you all.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/11/2025 04:19

I got shouted at as I wasn’t providing her tea quickly enough. 😹

TBF that is shockingly poor treatment by her servant.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/11/2025 16:47

I know. I’m not looking forward to weaning her from two tins of thrive a Day back down to one. 😹😹

Send photos of her displeasure to your friend who thinks cats don’t have expressions. 😄

Toddlerteaplease · 24/11/2025 10:15

@learieonthewildmoorthat would be the same friend that told me this morning his cat was looking grumpy as he wasn’t paying attention to her. I reminded him
of our conversation… apparently they don’t have as many facial muscles as we do. 🙄

She’s sitting on my shoulder again and digging her back claws in to my hand. Vet check tomorrow. There’s still a bit of a smell but she seems almost back to normal.

Good news!

Davros · 24/11/2025 22:36

We often think the cat is pulling a face. I hope Penelope is doing well

learieonthewildmoor · 25/11/2025 07:18

She has a thin band of iron determination in her. Well done Pen xxo

Toddlerteaplease · 25/11/2025 16:56

Vet happy with how her mouth is looking. Another dose of antibiotics, and some tablets for the cattery to give. 🤣 One of the nurses came to say hello and said she has a ‘sassy vibe’ 🤣
