Prison Dramas, Bands and Ouija Boards - the Excellent Cats audition, sing and plot

Our feline overlords have so many current strings to their joint and several bows.

Auditioning for Series One of The Prison Cat, forming a band, and continuing to plot against their enemies by means of their Ouija Boards - will they even have time to sleep now?

I feel left out now and am going to have to read Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights immediately!

I didn't finish Jane Eyre when I was doing my undergrad degree and I'm not going to finish it now! Not my cup of tea.

Wuthering Heights is just OK, I did finish that one but I wouldn't read it again.

Now Middlemarch, there's a novel!

Esgaroth · 11/12/2025 14:21

I've had to pick up an ill child from school today but luckily Dr Kettle is diligent as always. Treatments offered include joint naps, soft fur and soothing purrs.

Middlemarch is a glorious novel, and also has a minor cat character called Tortoise, which I think automatically elevates it above the sadly catless Jane Eyre and WH.

I think that just about every book I was forced to read for O Level and A Level English was more palatable and enjoyable than Wuthering Heights.

I except Sons and Lovers, which I found utterly frightful. WH was glorious compared to Lawrence.

IMO obvs.

Have just finished watching Murder Must Advertise, which is one of my favourite books of all time.

I really like that one too. But Ian Carmichael does not work as Harlequin. That requires a slimmer & younger Wimsey.

OMG yes! Quite, quite awful.

But I must confess to experiencing a secret desire for the very handsome Paul Darrow, who plays Mr. Tallboy.

(Darrow also played Charles Bravo, in a very early dramatisation of what was known as The Balham Mystery.)

I am very interested in true crime and I'd love to know what really happened.

Linney wants to know when we're returning to the subject of cats.
He's unimpressed with all this talk about English Lit. and 1970s DVDs.

Kitty’s current favourite hiding place. She lurks in it, I see it move as she does the bum wiggle & then she leaps out to pounce on the Ouija board.

I do love seeing a bum wiggle... unless she's in the garden

Argh! I've just been watching an interview with Ian Carmichael on his playing Wimsey, and the interviewer started off by saying "Did you enjoy playing Lord Wimsey?" (sic)

This has annoyed me greatly.

I bet it did. It would have annoyed me too.

If my GP was like Kettle I would never be away from the surgery 😻

I can’t believe it’s taken them this long!

RumNotRun · 11/12/2025 21:53

I had to use Fred's full name and my stern voice earlier as he had got up onto the cabinet and was attacking the Christmas tree decorations. He's full of mischief!

Also, a cat rescue place out near Swansea (about an hour away?) has had two cats dumped on their drive. One is the spitting image of Vixie. He/she is not up for adoption yet which is probably good as I would have taken her in a heartbeat.

There's a dramatisation of Murder Must Advertise?? I've only seen the Harriet Walter ones.

Hello! It's just taken me HOURS to catch up. Does anybody fancy taking on the responsibility of tagging me in a post every few days just to remind me to check in? I hate getting behind, but the longer I leave it, the harder it is! Life is still chaotic with the eldest struggling a lot, so I get behind.

The literature chat has gone right over my head. I love reading but I'm more of a Potter fan.

Hope everyone (human and feline) is OK. I had a surprise visitor earlier tonight. I'd just put the boys to bed and heard loud miaowing at the door, opened it expecting Benny and an absolutely beautiful little cat ran in! He/she was quite friendly and stayed for about ten minutes then left again. I've posted on the local pets lost and found Facebook page because I've never seen this cat before and it was odd how it wanted to be straight in my house, so I'm wondering if it's an escaped house cat.

Attaching a pic of the visitor plus a couple of Walter and Benny snuggling last night. A rare occurrence!

Sorry I could not find you all and @ broon sorry for thinking you got banned again. Here is Jonah and excellent NMHC who likes boxes and fortunately lives in a shop. He was hiding yesterday because it was his weekly bath day!
