He’s not bitey but he is a bit gummy. He had to have all his teeth out because of FIV. His nickname’s Shreddy Krueger tho’. Lethal claws!

He looks like the sort of cat you wouldn't want to mess with.

Gizmo has just caused four magpies to become enraged, so they decided to menace him.

We heard them making a lot of noise and saw Gizmo running for his life back to the house, tail between his legs and clearly startled.

He now wants to go back out, of course.

If even Gizmo gets scared of magpies, then Snowcat’s completely justified, @stormsandsunshine!

RumNotRun · 09/07/2025 11:11

Vix managed to annoy some magpies last summer when she darted out of the front door and refused to come back in. I'd tried everything to coax her out from under the parked cars, to no avail. I went into the house, can back out, couldn't see her, then saw some magpies furiously dive bombing up the road. I walked up to them to find Vix darting out from under a car, straight into my legs. She hasn't gone outside since 😁

@MissNowt What a lovely cat and what a filthy look!

RumNotRun · 09/07/2025 17:07

My Fred looks so angelic at times.

He does look angelic, is he?!

Herbie had a trip to the vets yesterday.
He needed that like a hole in the head. That is what he now has-the vet shaved a section of fur on top of his head to check an abcess which I didn't know he had until it burst!
He must have had a fight we were unaware of. Luckily he has no fever, so the vet wasn't concerned and said to keep an eye on it. Herbie was very well behaved, even purring at one point!!
Last night he was involved in another scuffle!

That picture doesn't show the hole, but it's not a pretty sight anyway.

EmpressaurusKitty · 09/07/2025 17:44

Poor Herbie!

RumNotRun · 09/07/2025 17:57

Oh Herbie!

Yes @Pianoaholiche is quite angelic. The most "naughty" he gets is sometimes tapping Toad to get him to play but it's so hesitant and gentle that Toad barely noticed. Also Fred is a big scaredy cat which isn't so much naughty as disappointing cause I'd love for my friends to see how loving he is.

I've tried to zoom in on it and I can see the hole.

The vet squeezed a load of gunk out (sorry for anyone squeamish!).
Typical really. He's off to the cattery on Monday!

Allergictoironing · 09/07/2025 18:44

Yep clear view of The Hole.

But I'm not that squeamish, you can't be if you had a horse with 2 abscesses the size of footballs one on her bum the other on her chest. I missed the one on her chest going pop, but according to the owner of the stables she got well over a washing up bowl of "rhubarb & custard" gunk out of it.

Turned out she had a problem with certain brands of antibiotic jabs, if she had one it would abscess within 24 hours every time.

Pianoaholic · 09/07/2025 18:52

I expect you were glad to miss the abscess 'going pop' !
First I knew of it was when I noticed foul smelling wet fur on top of his head...

Allergictoironing · 09/07/2025 20:36

Apparently it was very satisfying. We'd watched these 2 massive abscesses grow and grow over a few days and they'd started to sort of seep all over the surface, which is why the owner of the yard was gently washing them with disinfectant in the mornings while I was at work & I'd do the same in the evenings.

Then one morning it sort of collapsed in the middle, hole about an inch across and this gunk just came flooding out. After it had been washed out & treated, and the same that evening, her chest was almost completely back to normal. And she was a much happier horse.

I called the vet the next day, and he said that if the yard owner had a scalpel (she did) we could put a small slice across the most sticky out bit on the other one & do the same with that, and he would send us antibiotic powders in the post so we did that the next day.

Esgaroth · 09/07/2025 21:01

I hope Herbie won the fight at least.

Pianoaholic · 09/07/2025 21:32

I think it is a very pretty long haired brown tabby he's been fighting with more recently. That's who he had the following scuffle with.
Maybe he was trying to get revenge for the abscess!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/07/2025 23:37

Impressive hole there Herbie!
No idea why Lenny has decided this is a suitable sleeping place - I've given up trying to work out what goes on in their little fluffy brains.

Can't comment on his choice of sleeping space, but Lenny has a truly beautifully impressive tail.

Thank you - I have passed on your compliment to him 😹.

Kitty’s enjoying an al fresco lunch today. Chilled Sheba chicken soup - she laps up the soup & ignores the chicken but at least it’s liquid.

Snowcat got accidentally locked in the garden when we were doing the school run. It only takes about 15 minutes, but by the time we got back she had realised the door was closed and given herself up for lost. She had made herself a little nest inside a huge rosemary bush and was curled up hiding in there where no magpies or tuxedo cats could get to her.

Before that she was looking hard as nails though

That was very sensible of her.

I bet one day she’ll ride a dragon.

Suggest you just read the OP's posts. It's a lesson in complete entitlement.
I haven't commented myself but it's a wild ride.

Oh yes, I saw that one.

I’m hoping Kitty won’t embarrass me like that when she goes for her booster.
