......... as Gizmo and Linney almost reach their first anniversary, they reflect on the joys of living in the same hoose.

You're up early, Allergic.

So am I for once

I wish! I start work about 30 mins drive away by about 9am usually (8am one day a fortnight), and need to be up by 6-6:30 just to be sure I'm physically capable to cope with the drive 😢

On a bad day it can take me 15 mins to actually get out of bed, then stretches before I can get in the shower (over the bath, need a step to get in). Then rest my back for a bit after shower, dress, downstairs & feed cats while the kettle boils. Then I can settle down with my co-codamol and naproxen, then at least 30-40 mins for those to kick in before I get ready to leave (via cat cuddling & spoiling last thing), then another quick back rest before getting in the car especially if I've had to park 30-40 yards up the road from my gate.

Some days I wake up by about 5:30 anyway, even when it's not my early start "Duty" day, and of course if the back is in a good mood like today then everything is earlier. No point in starting early today, bearing in mind I have to stay until 5pm tonight & I have about 2.5 days flexi built up already over the last month!

Another 3 years 1 month to retirement.....

EmpressaurusKitty · 23/05/2025 08:29

That sounds really tough, Allergic, I’m sorry.

Kitty & I are out on the balcony, me with coffee & her drinking from the watering can. Because it’s obviously so much nicer than her fountain, her bowl or her second choice, the plastic jug Hmm

At least the watering can isn't contaminated with bird-bathing dross and fox wee which every cat who comes into my garden (plus The Stray) seems to enjoy. None like the piggy water bowl so I guess it's contaminated with juicy slug and worm slime.

Yesterday, someone started a thread about Tess (of the d'Urbervilles) and Angel Clare, but without mentioning the book.
Oooh, I wondered what that post was about. Why do people post stuff like that with zero reference points, it's such a waste of time. I vaguely recall watching it once over Christmas but that doesn't mean I would remember the characters/plot.

True. Her other favourite is licking the drips off my shower mat.

Esgaroth · 23/05/2025 12:24

Kettle enjoys licking morning dew off the lawn. Very refined.

Otherwise happy to drink from his boring ceramic bowl.

RumNotRun · 23/05/2025 13:03

I am on a v hot, v busy train on my way to the New Forest. I did explain to the tribe that I was going away for a few days. They didn't seem to care.

DrDisrespect · 23/05/2025 14:04

A few years ago I put a post on Facebook that my cat preferred drinking out of the pan soaking in the sink, rather than her water fountain. My weird know it all ex lodger commented that cats normally drink out of strange places to gain nutrients they are lacking... I'm no vet but I dont think my cat was lacking in bolognese nutrients 🙄

EmpressaurusKitty · 23/05/2025 14:09

I had a couple of fosters who were desperate to leap into the toilet bowl. Neither ever managed it but but I’ve got no idea what nutrients they’d have expected to find.

Esgaroth · 23/05/2025 14:10

I've seen all kinds of flavoured waters, but bolognese flavour is a sadly neglected option. Perhaps it had a pleasing hint of beef.

They will when it comes to feeding time.

Not to toot my own horn, but I've had many compliments on my bolognese. Dont blame her for wanting to try it!

Do you have a cat now, @DrDisrespect?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 23/05/2025 15:01

I've just attended our local hospital to have my knee X-rayed.

I discovered this huge sign by the door.

I do! The same bolognese defient cat. I've lurked the little tray, and these threads for a while but don't think I've ever paid tax. The shame. I'll go through my camera roll later (which may or may not be 90% pictures of my kitty) and upload some pics

I am fully expecting tales (tails?) of starvation when I return. My friend is feeding them while I'm away but that will only be two meals a day, not the four that they usually get out of me (the same amount of food but just spread over more meals), plus of course the various treats I give them. Poor little waifs.

coastergirl · 23/05/2025 22:03

Walter and Benny are confused. It is raining. It hasn't rained for bloody ages. They had seemingly forgotten that rain existed. They keep going out, getting wet, coming in, going out again, coming in soggy and looking at me blankly. I swear neither of them has anything going on behind the eyes.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 23/05/2025 22:18

Oh Coastergirl, Linney is also horrified because we turned the water on outside this evening.

He ran out, full of joy, then returned, bedraggled and soaking.

He is now sulking in the hall.

Rain?? What's that? 👀

JaceLancs · 23/05/2025 22:50

Our poor kitties, somebody turned the sky water on and we're just not listening to their demands to turn it off! 😂

EmpressaurusKitty · 23/05/2025 23:37

After all, if they see us making water & light go on & off inside, it’s totally logical that we should make it happen outside too.

Pixiedust1234 · 24/05/2025 00:21

Oh my! Finlay turned into a spikysaurus!

Pianoaholic · 24/05/2025 09:22

I don't seem to be able to attach photos, so am.just trying again....
