Well, the boys among them are making plans.

The lady cats are having a spa fortnight in Italy.

Bills for flights, accommodation, food, booze, medical insurance and legal fees (not to mention a fund for bribing officials at Ljubljana Prison) are allegedly being sent to an unmonitored email address.

@Esgaroth that is a cat who knows how to express his views!

My dad asked me the other day how I knew what Kitty wanted or what mood she was in. The best I could come up with for a lot of the time was ‘I just do. Except when I don’t.’

It seems like one of those things that’s quite hard to explain to someone who doesn’t have cats.

Cats and dogs are usually fairly easy to understand if you have spent a lot of time with them. It's especially easy to learn in childhood. I find that people who didn't have pets as children have less of an instinctive affinity with them.

Dogs especially in my experience are an open book. They wear their hearts on their sleeves, while cats can be a little more of an enigma. Though in my life I've spent much more time with dogs than cats so maybe that's it!

EmpressaurusKitty · 14/02/2025 13:15

I didn’t have pets as a child, but I had a crash course of sorts when I was fostering!

Esgaroth · 14/02/2025 13:30

Yes, it's mainly just amount of time you've been around them. Like most things I suppose, children just pick it up very naturally (if they're shown good examples by adults who are respectful of the animals).

I always knew exactly what our dogs were thinking and feeling and found it hard to understand why some of my friends couldn't tell!

Spotted Kettle's arch enemy outside the front door. I didn't mention it to him, though.

He is rather lovely, but Kettle doesn't agree unfortunately.

What is it with marmalade cats and gatecrashing? Edited to add: they are handsome devils though!

CatsonPollock · 14/02/2025 15:54

It's interesting re marmalade cats! We don't have too many NMC's around here - which is surprising to me as we're in typical London suburbia. Next door's lovely grey and white boy won't come in our garden any more as our 2 girls aren't fans. There's a beautiful long haired tabby and a white and black bruiser that occasionally put in an appearance and cause a growly/waily stand off but I've never seen a ginger mog anywhere in the area...

... mentioning it means I've now summoned the dark ginger gods and one will appear outside our door shortly - won't it?! 🙀

Pianoaholic · 14/02/2025 16:59

The ginger tom that Herbie has issues with is actually quite a dainty looking creature with a white bib-appearances are deceptive though, judging by the fights they have had.
If there are any other cats around Herbie isn't that fussed, but if he spots Timmy, he dashes through the catflap and makes his way to the front!

EmpressaurusKitty · 14/02/2025 19:21

I never fostered a ginger, come to think of it.
3 tuxedos, 2 blacks, 2 white with tabby splodges & a tortie before Kitty.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/02/2025 19:41

My old pale ginger boy (Monty) was one of the most gentle cats I've ever known. He even got bullied by Sybil. So they definitely aren't all thugs.
He wasn't allowed on tables either 😁

You'd be blessed to receive a ginger visitor! @CatsonPollock

I had a beautiful ginger cat called Tosh when I was very young. He was a pale all over ginger like Monty and our NMC. He was the brother of Mac (geddit?), who lived a lot longer.

Tosh sadly died on the road long before his time (age 6) but he was a very gentle, friendly cat. Mac was the neighbourhood thug😬

RumNotRun · 14/02/2025 20:25

I've mentioned it previously on one of these threads but my darling cat Alizè (RIP), who was a grumpy sod, was never bothered by cats in the garden unless it was one of the few ginger cats living round here at the time. He would hurl himself through the catflap and chase them off, like a furious little Tasmanian Devil.

Tonight Raven has stolen little Frankenstein's place and is pretending to be cute and innocent.

Of course he wasn't.

I’m the only human home tonight so enjoying Finlay’s company - wish I could chill so thoroughly!

Linney, trying to attract our attention.
He clearly felt it was time his supper was served.

I agree, he looks starving. Poor cat 😔

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/02/2025 06:22

Bloody hell - apparently more CSA pictures were posted on the site last night so photos are banned again.

MN really needs to sort this properly.

They do. I only looked at the thread briefly but it seemed they managed to delete the photos faster this time, which is something.

EmpressaurusKitty · 15/02/2025 10:18

According to the Site Stuff thread, someone posted a link to a CSA site and the photos appeared as part of the link preview, which meant they didn’t go through the AI screening.

You should be glad he's asking so politely. Boris decided that he required feeding a 4am, so climbed up on top of the bedroom door and jumped down onto my bed. He was so close to my face that he landed on my hair. It's only a matter of time until he misjudges it or I move suddenly and I get a face full of cat.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/02/2025 11:38

Sybil has been admiring the dancing cats on the thread and has decided to join in. Who says you can't teach an old cat new tricks? 😺

Sybil is going to be a sensation on the dance floor!

I’ve just got back from the shops & Kitty is captivated by a tin of cannellini beans. She’s been rubbing it, sniffing it & pushed it over. I have no idea why.

I appear to have failed Girlcat in some way. If she's after something she comes over to me, stands up on her back legs and rests her front paws on my leg, which she did a little while ago. Automatic response from me is to check the food bowls, plenty of dry left plus a bit of breakfast remaining. Water is topped up. Litter tray is clean. Doesn't want to be picked up. Doesn't want to lie next to me for fusses, or even go on the back of the sofa for fusses (her favorite).

Can't for the life of me work out what she's after!

Allergictoironing · 15/02/2025 16:27

Oh, and it isn't treat time either!

Has she lost a toy & needs you to find / retrieve it?
