I spent ages last night trying to think of this thread title.

🤣🤣🤣

Pet Scanner told me that my coffee table was a mixed breed of cat.

There was an ice cream tub on it, which may have skewed the results.

I spent all afternoon scanning Linney, and they said he was a mix, too.

That seems more likely than his turning out to be a Turkish Angora. Especially with a tabby for a big sister.
🤣

Pet Scanner is mad.

I asked it to look at ten photos of Gizmo and it confidently announced that he's a Bengal.

However, when I took real time pictures of the boy himself, it confidently announced that he's a tabby/ short-hair domestic mog.

I managed to accidentally take a picture of my duvet cover, which has a cat design on it and it told me I had a mixed breed including tuxedo, Russian Blue and Maine Coon.
Sorry but that is hilarious @HumanToCatBeasties !

My results from pet scanner haven't been too positive. I managed to accidentally take a picture of my duvet cover, which has a cat design on it and it told me I had a mixed breed including tuxedo, Russian Blue and Maine Coon. I tried it on Boris and he is also apparently mixed breed, although it did correctly identify him as Domestic short haired cat. I was more puzzled by the 18.6% Tortoiseshell cat. I would like to explain to whoever designed the app the difference between breed and fur colour and how cat colour genetics mean Boris is not a tortie.

Oh, brilliant idea!

Apparently the cats on my bedding are pure bred Cornish Rexes. They might be.

But much more excitingly, I am a cross between a Turkish Van and a tuxedo.

My parents have some explaining to do.

I'm a mix between a domestic long haired cat (49.0%) and a Turkish Van (5.0%). I feel vaguely insulted that I'm not something more exotic. 😂

I think the designer of my ancient IKEA duvet cover should be commended for managing to include the essence of such a wide range of cat breeds in such a simple design.

I was a bit confused as I was trying to work out how to use my previous pictures of Matilda cat when it gave me the verdict of mixed breed, then I noticed the picture!

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 14/11/2024 21:58

My bedding matches my cat!

At least I think so, but Cat scanner disagrees.

I'm going to ask it what it makes of my pictures of Picard and Suzy.

I got distracted by the cat scanner and realised that I haven't said how pleased I am for @Esgaroth that kettle has finally been freed from his massive cone. I hope you can stop worrying now and enjoy your beautiful cat.

TheShellBeach · 14/11/2024 22:09

Right. It thinks Picard is a mixture of Ragdoll and Himalayan.

What do you think?

TheShellBeach · 14/11/2024 22:13

And it thinks Suzy is a domestic short-haired mog.

With fangs.

Well, one fang.

Is Picard some kind of fancy breed? He doesn't look like a domestic short/long hair, but you never know.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 14/11/2024 22:15

Try it on yourself, Shell.

It's probably right about the short haired mog. Was vampire not on the list?

My sister is 49% Maine coon, I am 48% like a nebelung (lithe muscular body? Yup, totally me! If you ignore the fat), and my bestie is 49.2% cougar. Her husband is younger than her so I guess the app is not wrong there!

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 14/11/2024 22:31

I tried a photo of my sister’s dog just now.

I was a bit disappointed that the app knew he was a dog instead of guessing that he was a Cornish Rex / tuxedo / Cougar or something.

JaceLancs · 14/11/2024 22:56

Pet scanner said he was British shorthair (blue) they are not far out tbf
Finlay has been a bit off colour today - home more than usual, sleeping lots and not eating as much as usual
I’m really paranoid after losing 2 Dcats last year and Finlay with his accident then recent vet hospital overnight stay that I’ve booked him in with vet tomorrow - he’s mightily miffed that we have blocked cat flap with every heavy object we can find (last time he broke it in effort to go wild)
In the event that he is given a clean bill of health they can vaccinate him whilst there as he’s due and will save another visit and trying to capture him again

Thank you, and everyone who congratulated us on the end of the great conefinement. He's been grooming himself normally (no obsessive licking focused on the site) and the scar remains pink and healthy looking, so it's a huge weight off my mind.

It was not an easy issue to deal with as a first time pet owner but now we can just get on with the fun bits!

Esgaroth · 14/11/2024 23:03

Oh I hope Finlay was just having an off day and there's nothing seriously wrong with him.

I'm laughing at the extents you have to go to to keep him in, though - he's a real free spirit, that cat. He must be fit as a fiddle with all that roaming around he does.

HumanToCatBeasties · 14/11/2024 23:10

Also hoping Finlay is just having an off day. There have been several occasions where I've been worried that something is wrong with my cats only for them to perk up the next day. Its good Finlay has a vets appointment hopefully it's nothing and he'll be back to usual tomorrow. If only they could tell us how they're feeling it would save so much worry.
