I spent ages last night trying to think of this thread title.

🤣🤣🤣

FGS our bedroom is now a mass of different cat beds. There are five available for the two cats.

It goes without saying that Linney is currently asleep on the bench in the garden, and Gizmo is asleep on Mr SB's chair in the sitting room.

Kettle has the weirdest miaow. He sounds like a person doing a fairly bad impression of a cat. He may be trying to say something in Danish... 🤔

My childhood cat on the other hand could say his own name (he was called Mac).

RumNotRun · 14/11/2024 13:54

Shell, have you not learned by now that Gizmo gets off the bed when he chooses, not when it is convenient for you.

I think almost all cats are just cats, aren't they? Rodent control is pretty much the only thing on their CVs beyond pure companionship.

I don't think I've ever even met a cat irl that was supposed to be a breed, apart from SIL's cat who she claims is half Norwegian Forest Cat. He is quite fluffy anyway, though I've never heard him talking Norwegian.

Maybe it’s the bottom half that’s Norwegian & the top half only speaks English.

learieonthewildmoor · 14/11/2024 14:01

Four’s siblings must have fruit bats in the family tree.
I have been denying Cat Two and Three any dry food because Two has hit 5.6 kilos. Three visited the kitten room and after a few minutes realised there was dry food there. He had a few bites of the wet food, then transferred to the dry.
All the kittens were fascinated.

Apparently Fred is also a Turkish Angora. I think the Cat Scanner app just decides white cat = Turkish Angora.

It also claims that Frankenstein is a mix between a Burmese and Korat, and Lexter? Well, he's a special blend! It did correctly identify my friend's Persian though.

It’s not so much I am good at cats as Cat Four is exceptionally sweet.

How are you ever going to let any of them go, especially Four? I'd be a useless fosterer as I'd end up keeping them all.

LostCats · 14/11/2024 14:25

Wait! Lexter is part Cougar??!!

ShoutyCatSlave · 14/11/2024 14:41

Cat Scanner is telling me that Agatha is mostly Bengal. She's actually 50:50 Bengal / Savannah, but the Savannah half is only f7, so very watered down. I guess the Bengal genes are dominant. And the scanner can't tell just how long her legs are when she's rolling around on the rug...

KeziaOAP · 14/11/2024 15:32

Well this is interesting...... Leanora Is 50% Siamese x RagdollX, according to cat scanner she's 99.9% Rag doll 🤔. Wedgwood is a pedigree Rag doll cat scanner is telling me he's 67.1% Ragdoll and 29.0% Snowshoe Cat.

Apparently so! It's news to him 😁 I get that the app people would put Bengal, Cornish Rex, Persian etc as breeds that may be in a house cat, but cougar? Is that something that occurs often enough in domestic cats that it needs to be an available option?

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 14/11/2024 15:59

Seriously - do it both with static pictures and with filming & see if the verdicts are different.

LostCats · 14/11/2024 16:21

🤣 you’ll need to be careful going forward Rum!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/11/2024 16:40

I'm most jealous of a part burmese part cougar.
Shines a whole new light on the term 'NMC'.

RumNotRun · 14/11/2024 17:23

He wants to know does it get him more food?

Yes, please feed at least one mountain goat per day. Or equivalent.

RumNotRun · 14/11/2024 18:45

I don't think we get mountain goats in Cardiff. Although bizarrely a muntjac deer was seen by quite a few people not far from my house. I live in a built up area with no deer parks or farms nearby. It was very odd.

Papergirl1968 · 14/11/2024 19:13

Back to the vet with Matt today as I thought his catheter was blocked and he didn’t appear to be weeing. A two min consultation with the vet to confirm it was still in place and he was indeed weeing cost the best part of £40…
Catheter will probably come out on Saturday and then we just need to see if he can wee by himself.

HumanToCatBeasties · 14/11/2024 19:29

@Papergirl1968 I hope really Matt can wee by himself when the catheter comes out. My cat Boris had a three day stay with a catheter around a month ago for a similar problem. It's so worrying when they can't wee.

Don’t tell Lexter.

learieonthewildmoor · 14/11/2024 19:38

RumNotRun: Cat Four is staying. I’m so looking forward to seeing how he grows and changes. He’s going to be a beautiful cat.
He’s also cleverer than I thought: he just escaped the kitten room and the cat gate blocking the stairs in successive order.

HumanToCatBeasties · 14/11/2024 19:42

My results from pet scanner haven't been too positive. I managed to accidentally take a picture of my duvet cover, which has a cat design on it and it told me I had a mixed breed including tuxedo, Russian Blue and Maine Coon. I tried it on Boris and he is also apparently mixed breed, although it did correctly identify him as Domestic short haired cat. I was more puzzled by the 18.6% Tortoiseshell cat. I would like to explain to whoever designed the app the difference between breed and fur colour and how cat colour genetics mean Boris is not a tortie.

Well done Matt, keep up the good weeing!

And yay for keeping Cat Four and his cunning escapee skills.

Lexter is such a lazy bum, he wouldn't catch a dying spider, let alone a sprightly muntjac. At the moment the "cougar" is fast asleep and snoring in his bed.
