Late to the party as ever but I've just downloaded the Cat Scanner app which wisely informed me that Elton was a tabby cat! Glad I got the free version and didn't pay for that searing insight 🙄

Based on my experience of catscanner that probably means Elton is actually a purebred Bengal. 🤣

Kettle is a mixed breed short haired cat 😄 What an insight!

I don't think he would even count as 'mixed breed' since I'm fairly certain the only 'breed' in his lineage would be 'cat'.

Funnily enough @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats he is a Mau which was the domesticated part of the Bengal breeding mix - obviously not Mau enough for the scanner though!

I'm amazed that the cat scanner app can even pick up that well-known cat breed known The Void! 🐈‍⬛ 🐈‍⬛ 😁

I haven't tried Cat Scanner (yet) but it reminds me of the old Scottish vet in one of the James Herriot books who was asked what breed a lady's recently acquired dog was.

The vet looked carefully at the animal, before cautiously saying:

"Ma'am, I think it's best if we just call him a Wee Broon Dug".

So based on that, I'm fully expecting Cat Scanner to tell me that Gizmo is a Wee Broon Cat.

I advise trying Cat Scanner a few times, & both with pics & the live camera. We got different results each time.

I think almost all cats are just cats, aren't they? Rodent control is pretty much the only thing on their CVs beyond pure companionship.

I don't think I've ever even met a cat irl that was supposed to be a breed, apart from SIL's cat who she claims is half Norwegian Forest Cat. He is quite fluffy anyway, though I've never heard him talking Norwegian.
