Glad you’re still with us Rum, after that look Lexter gave you!

Glad you’re still with us Super! Have missed your excellent stories.

Ah Shell, a small boy must have hurt his foot. Best of luck!

Pudmyboy · 14/10/2024 09:57

Crikey, good luck Mr &Mrs Shell and everyone you draft in to help get Gizmo to the vet, good luck to the vet as well!
(Wonder if he has trodden on glass?)
Regarding hauntings: when I first moved in , before I got Pud, I used to occasionally feel something when settling in bed: a soft thump as if a cat had jumped up, occasionally felt as if a cat was walking on the bed, the way they do. Didn't mind, felt sorted of honoured by it's presence, the way we do.
When I got Pud, it did confirm what the sensation had felt like, except he was heavier which would make sense (aware playing fast and loose with that word) as a ghost cat weighs a lot less than a real cat.
I really hoped Pud would haunt me but the little sod hasn't so far 😿

Esgaroth · 14/10/2024 10:02

But is there anything more terrifying than being almost asleep and then a cat suddenly lands with a big thud right in front of your face? No need for ghost cats.

Or do you get used to this? It's only happened to me a few times with various cats but it makes me jump out of my skin.

Pudmyboy · 14/10/2024 10:18

To me it's startling, rather than terrifying, and annoying as they always manage to do it at the exact point I am about to enter a lovely sleep!

Esgaroth · 14/10/2024 10:22

Yes, perhaps startling is a better word. I'm obviously not frightened once I realise what's happened. But jeez it's a jolt of adrenaline. Why do they have to jump right next to your head? 😄

TheShellBeach · 14/10/2024 10:29

A few more bloodstains were evident on the sofa and the kitchen floor this morning.

I've narrowed it down to back left paw.

We think he's scraped it a little during one of his scrabbles to get on to the outside wall.

We're not sure if it's worth a vet visit. It's not dripping blood, just oozing a little, every so often.

It seems to start up again after he's been outside.

Dammit. I think he needs to stay in for a day or two, to let it heal.

That'll please him.

I am sure he will let you know his displeasure!

Esgaroth · 14/10/2024 11:11

I've been using a combo of cone and baby tights on Kettle for several days now, but he has to be supervised with the tights because he occasionally gets his leg stuck and sometimes right out, so he can't always have that extra layer of protection. His wound does look a little better but I'm sure he's still licking it now and then and it's not been given enough rest to let it close. It still looks worse than it did when he first came to us.

I think there's nothing else for it but the bigger cone unfortunately. I kind of wish I'd just gone for it right away now 😕

I feel a bit thrown in at the deep end with our first family pet, though I know a small problematic wound is far from the most serious medical issue.

Poor Cedric has scabby ears at present so is in a collar to prevent scratching.
I know I shouldn't laugh but...

When I was pregnant with DD, Boone was v displeased due to the potential for the anarchy that came with DS arrival. So one night he climbed onto the headboard and jumped directly onto my tummy. I folded immediately. Heavy bugger. Called hospital in panic who said not to worry as wasn’t far along. Hasn’t affected DD at all and he’s never done it again. Am absolutely convinced he did it deliberately.

He doesn't look very impressed with his ruff

These two are ridiculously cute at the moment. I did move Lex slightly to check he can breathe. He glared at me and buried his head back into his brother.

Kettle's got his mega cone on. He definitely can't lick his leg with this bad boy and was able to eat with his dish raised up on an upside-down biscuit tin.

It doesn't look comfortable but the good news is he can still keep an eye on the birds in the garden.

This thread moves too quickly for me, but just popping in to say this little pumpkin spiced menace left a dead mouse at the back door last night, then brought a second live mouse into the kitchen about an hour later. I ended up catching it in a mug (!) but it was bleeding so probably would have died anyway although I released it next door.

DP is away with work and usually dealing with this stuff is his job.

He’s serving peak autumn though. Look how cute. 🎃🍁🍂

That actually looks quite stylish! Does he do the unfortunately funny thing of misjudging openings due to the cone?
Bit sporner corner but can we have a pic of the wound?

Papergirl1968 · 14/10/2024 16:38

I like to think our beloved pets pop in to see us when they’re gone.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 14/10/2024 16:40

I fostered two sisters who were spayed at the same time - one removed her cone 3 times on the way home but completely ignored the wound site, so I let her keep it off. The other was thoroughly annoyed at still having to wear hers, but kept trying to get at her stitches, so not much choice. She got her revenge by knocking things over with it, & we had Cat TV on more or less 24/7 as a distraction since she was hooked on watching the squirrels.

I still see them sometimes, out of the corner of my eye.

They're there, in the ether.

He had worked out how to get around quite nimbly but with the bigger cone he's bumping into things again.

Here's the wound yesterday just after he'd managed to lick it again. I have a whole folder on my phone dedicated to the healing progress and regress of this fucking thing. I'll mark it as sensitive because it's not a very pretty sight.

The one of him yawning 😍

Autumn is a great time for the ginger cats! They're so on trend.

Thank you, it does look clean, just not knitting together... would that be right?

Esgaroth · 14/10/2024 17:23

Gross and tmi, but it sort of dries up, scabs and shrinks and looks nice like it's healing well. Then he gives it a few sneaky licks and it's red and open again.

It is way better than it was a week ago, but sadly still worse than it was when we got him (when I honestly thought nothing of it, it looked almost fully healed).

It's definitely not infected or anything like that, just needs leaving alone.

TheShellBeach · 14/10/2024 17:26

Argh Gizmo has squeezed himself out of the window, which was slightly open.

I suppose there'll be another bloodbath on my bed later on.
