Frederick often sits on top of the fire basket but tonight he went one step further and climbed up inside the chimney. He is now a tuxedo cat.

Toby used to do that. He slept up there sometimes.

Mind you, he was black, so it didn't show.
🤣

Many happy returns to the Magnificent Matt!!!

Might there be a birthday portrait? He’s royalty after all.

RumNotRun · 24/04/2024 20:40

@TheShellBeach I am worried that he will get himself stuck or will fall and hurt himself. I have now fixed a blanket over the fireplace opening in the hope that will stop him. He just looked at it and made a very sad meow.

Papergirl1968 · 24/04/2024 22:15

Frederick needs a bath!
Matt will hopefully pose for a delayed birthday pic in the coming days. Having problems with iPhone charger, and the tablet camera is rubbish.

That's what my dad said, and, as I said to dad, if you're offering to come round and bathe him then good luck to you. I however value my skin too much 🤣

I went to take a photo of Frankie scowling and instead caught him mid lip licking so it looks like a Frankenstein blep.

When I was at Annie's yesterday looking at the picture of Penelope's possible new partner in crime we started talking about cat faces and realised that between the 4 cats we now have, we have 4 distinct face shapes. Girlcat has a long, somewhat oriental face. Izzy has a cute little pointy nose. Tobias has a rather flat almost dish face. And Thrifty has a medium nose with an almost blunt vertical end. All different, all very distinctive, and all gorgeous in their own ways.

All 4 cats have very different personalities too, which is lovely. And the sizes are quite a range too - tiny (Izzy), medium & rounded/stocky (Thrifty), medium/large & very chunky (Tobias), and faily large and long & sinuous (Girlcat). The only real aspect where we don't have loads of variety is colour with 1 tabby & white, 2 black & white, and one black. Then again, bearing in mind that Girlcat is a smoke black charcoal tabby, she has about 3 colours types in one cat!

Linney loves his little house.
Here he is, fast asleep and showing some pink toebeans.

That is the cutest picture

Vixen says hi. The chair she is perched on was once a lovely office chair. Apparently it feels good to scratch 😔

Is Vixen's tongue permanently out?

I'm 40 tomorrow. It's a very odd feeling! The cats are currently out and according to the tracker, Benny has gone to the park again. Little adventurer!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/04/2024 06:24

Happy Birthday @coastergirl 🎂.

Since you have cat trackers - how far away do your cats travel?

coastergirl · 26/04/2024 06:57

Too bloody far! Only Benny though, Walter doesn't go far at all.

And thank you.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 26/04/2024 07:23

Our bed seemed to develop a bad case of 'voids' overnight.

RumNotRun · 26/04/2024 07:32

Happy birthday @coastergirl

Vixen's tongue isn't permanently out, she sometimes puts it away. She does look odd now when it's not poking out as I'm so used to her looking bleppy. It is definitely more out than in though!

Defiantlynot41 · 26/04/2024 07:35

Happy birthday @coastergirl !

Anniegetyourgun · 26/04/2024 09:40

@coastergirl 40 is ok, but 50 is better.

How I felt while ageing (so far):

30th birthday: ooh-er, I'm not young Sad
40th: Life begins, you say? Time to stop giving a damn.
50th: OK, I'm older, but I'm meaner 😈
60th: Yay! Free stuff!

The other thought to hold onto is: growing old is unavoidable, but growing up is optional.

Allergictoironing · 26/04/2024 10:06

There are so many things you can blame on age as well.

Don't want to do exercise - feeling too creaky today/ got arthritis.
Don't feel like going out - you're tired
Have a "blonde" moment - that's the fault of age
Putting on weight - not much you can do about that when you get past a certain age (there is, but it's a good excuse)
Older people notoriously don't like change, so you have that excuse if you don't want to change anything
You can leave boring parties & events early if you feel like it, or even not go in the first place
You get praised for doing stuff that used to be considered normal
You can blame your age when you suddenly up & do something outrageous

I know some women have a horrific Menopause, but if yours isn't too bad you can still blame loads of stuff on that anyway.

Despite it not being terribly nice for the ego, there are advantages in becoming "invisible" due to age - nobody notices when you can't be bothered to dress up, or put make up on.

As Annie says above, free stuff once you hit 60.

Allergic, some of the things you've mentioned about ageing only really apply once you're properly old (like me for example)

Coaster is only 40. According to MN that's the best possible time to start a family, not to obtain your first Zimmer frame.

The best thing about being over 60 is that I can live up to my user name.
Mind you I'd been like this for years before I was 60 anyway 🤣.
I haven't noticed much free yet though.

LostCats · 26/04/2024 10:31

Happy Birthday Coaster! Welcome to the 40s! It’s brilliant. I definitely care a lot less than in my 30s. And have more time for my cats 🤣

TheShellBeach · 26/04/2024 10:52

I agree with Grumpy.

I'm over 60 now, so I have an excuse to be a curmudgeon.

But really, I think I always was.

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 26/04/2024 10:54

And I still blame stuff on the good old menopause, especially now they've brought in post-menopausal HRT, which is excellent stuff.
🤣

OP posts:
coastergirl · 26/04/2024 10:59

Thanks all! A lot of the things mentioned apply to me anyway 😂 I'm not the most sociable, and a very chaotic life means I'm pretty forgetful already. Definitely hoping to start caring less what people think.
