And this is Reg looking like he had nothing to do with it 10 minutes later!

Don't believe a word of it - clearly butter wouldn't melt in Reg's mouth.
Looking on the bright side - he looks as if he's forgiven you 🤣🤣🤣.

@Allergictoironing I'm glad Tobias is better and deeply impressed that you managed to get any of that vile paste into him at all.
Linney was prescribed some once, looked at it, laughed and walked off.

Vile it may be (certainly looks it, have a bit of a cold so couldn't smell it), but it was have to eat a little of that or miss out on dinner completely. And this is Tobias we're talking about, who would eat from dusk until dawn if he could, then wake up a few times during the day for a fortifying snack.

But tonight I think I'll try mixing it very thoroughly with some lik y lix then mix that into his food.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 26/01/2024 19:35

Ouch Horne, but that sweet innocent li'l kitty clearly had nothing to do with it at all 😱

Supersimkin2 · 26/01/2024 19:46

Reg! That a little bit extra playful, mummy’s precious babysnuggles. Yikes Horne. Savlon.

He doesn’t know his own strength, bless him.

LostCats · 26/01/2024 19:50

Dear me Horne! I hope it heals well

Defiantlynot41 · 26/01/2024 19:53

Yeouch, that looks sore.

I'm 100% not a fan of Twitter/X and am only on it because it's the sole reliable source of info about a local traffic situation, but Jenny Ryan posted on a thread called why you should have a cat and it has me hooked. #shouldhavecat

The irony is the groomer came round because he needs his claws cutting. As proved very eloquently by his reaction 😂

Sudream in gallons on!

Any tips on how to cut his claws when he is curled up next to me because this clearly NOT a cat who can be mandandled in anyway?!

Catsmere · 26/01/2024 21:31

Ow!

Papergirl1968 · 26/01/2024 21:41

Belatedly catching up. Excellent news, Shell.

RumNotRun · 26/01/2024 22:10

Horne, I have to cut the claws of some of the tribe. Lexter growls and hisses but I can pretty much just hold his feet and trim the claws.

The girls though are feisty and I'd probably end up with scrams like yours so, and this is a very slow method, I wait till they're fast asleep then gently cut as many of their claws as I can before they wake up. Usually that's one claw but occasionally I've managed two or even three.

Allergictoironing · 26/01/2024 22:46

I got Boycat to accept having his claws trimmed by starting out just playing with his feet occasionally when he was lying next to me. Progressed on to the gentle squeeze of each toe to encourage the claw to come out, then praise & fuss him without trying to clip them or anything. Eventually he would let me fondle each foot and push the claws out one by one.

THEN, and only then, did I cut just one claw. Left it a few days doing the playing with the feet every day, then did the next two claws on the same foot. Slowly (I'm talking months here) he would let me do two entire feet in a sitting.

The thing to remember is never push it so far that they get upset, stop the process as soon as they start to get restless then return to it the next day.

Catsmere · 26/01/2024 22:46

Horne, you mentioned Reg can't be manhandled. Does he let you hold his paws at all?

nettie434 · 26/01/2024 23:53

I'm impressed with the pre-emptive campaigning Shell. Well done Tobias on tolerting the nasty tasting paste. Hope those scratches get better soon Horne!

How are you, Nettie?
I hope you're feeling better.

A little, if he’s sitting comfy next to you. He doesn’t flinch away but he’s not totally relaxed either. I’ll follow the tips about slowly getting him used to us playing with his feet first, that’s a big help.

He's a lovely boy but there’s no getting near him when he’s nervous so all the tips I read about towels and that are definitely not going to work!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/01/2024 08:38

@TheHorneSection
Hope the scratches are healing. We had to trim our old boy's claws towards the end of his life as he was no longer managing them himself. I used to do it when he was fast asleep and could usually get through a paw before he started to wake up and danger loomed. Might be worth a try?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 27/01/2024 08:43

Shell love your picture yesterday of the NMC stand off. Seriously bad tempered ears there.

Allergictoironing · 27/01/2024 09:02

Total failure with the meds for Tobias last night. Mixed the paste in very thoroughly with lik y lix then mixed that in with the wet food. Bowl (Girlcat's) without meds licked clean, Tobias's completely untouched all night.

Starving to death Tobias following me around as soon as I got up making little meep noises (not his usual) until I put unadulterated breakfast down for him which was gone in seconds, followed by the bit Girlcat had left of hers as soon as she moved away. Don't think I'm even going to bother with the 3rd and final dose tonight.

TheShellBeach · 27/01/2024 10:34

Allergic, well done for trying to get Tobias to consume Pro-Kolin.
I reckon the manufacturers must make a fortune from it, and all it does is sit in drawers and cupboards, unconsumed by the cats and dogs it's prescribed for.
😂

You should've heard the racket the two of them were making. It was indescribable, and it continued for ages.

I tried to make a video of it, but true to form, my phone refused to allow me to do so.

@RumNotRun is Frankenstein any better?

OP posts:
RumNotRun · 27/01/2024 11:53

Yes thanks Shell. He's still a bit snuffly but I think we're at the tail end of it now. He hasn't been eating much cat food but has been happily eating human food that I've given him (chicken, ham, and cheese mainly). I'm going to get him some posh food on payday just cause he's looking a bit scrawny. This will be interesting trying to feed him away from the others. He does come when I call him but Toad usually runs ahead of him so I end up with both of them.

That's good news, Rum.

We got Linney some expensive posh food the other day and he scoffed it.
And now he's starting to look aggrieved when we serve up a pouch of Felix to him.

That's what Frankie is like every year after Christmas. Although I don't really celebrate it, I do get a turkey - feeds 8, ha, not with this lot! Frankie eats his body weight in turkey and then looks at cat food like "what is this shit you expect me to eat? Where's my turkey!"

He's tiny but woe betide any other cat who tries to take food from him!
