Keep your paws crossed that Penelope (also to be known as Pickle) will be right for Cheddar and arrive soon.
I'm a bit confused by her story, but she's an ex show cat. So hopefully will be healthy.
She's not yet in the rescue so we do t k ow her personality. But from what I've seen as show cats. They are pretty docile.

The rescue told me about her when O told them of Magic's death. And when I got to work that night. We had a patient called Penelope. So I take it as a sign!

I'm trying to speed it up a bit but the rescue is busy.

I know I post to say the same thing fairly often @Toddlerteaplease buy oh my, these latest pictures, you really do have the most beautiful cats - I love them!!

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 13:23

@Allergictoironing the rescue want to try the antibiotics first as the flush will cost £100. Then flush at dental if still needed. Which is a reasonable suggestion, I think.

They are worried about costs as they can't fundraise for her apparently.
Fortunately she's still foster, so they are paying. Her dental will be expensive as she will definitely need at least one tooth out.

I'm increasingly disappointed in her previous owner.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 13:55

@YetAnotherSpartacus yep so
Am I. Apparently the rescue have a case for the RSPCA. But they won't take any action. She's 3! Her teeth shouldn't be this bad!

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 13:56

She was shown up until
Last year as well. So teeth have to be in good nick for that.

OP posts:
YetAnotherSpartacus · 22/09/2023 14:27

Are you sure she was shown? I'm beginning to doubt elements of her story.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 14:38

Yes. I've done some digging. And seen the show report.

Owner didn't prepare her coat enough. But she still did quite well.

Was hoping for an easier ride with this one!

Pickle is very offended, because wheh I asked if she could have a vest post spay rather than a cone. The vet estimated that she could have a rabbit sized one. I laughed. Which offended her even more.

Body shaming Penelope! How could you? I thought it was so sad that she knew all about posing but her teeth are so bad for such a young cat. The good thing is that her new life of luxury and leisure has begun.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 15:27

Yes I thought the same about the posing. The vet had literally just had a dig around in her ears with a cotton bud. And she then did that.

Also surprised that a three year old should need a dental - whatever has she been eating?

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 16:36

I know. That was what the rescue said! She's been on Royal canin mum and baby. And Sheba flakes. The biscuits are absolutely tiny. So I don't think they've cleaned her teeth in the way bigger kibble would.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 16:41

The vet phoned back and explained why she didn't want antibiotics, I don't think she was happy to have her judgement questioned. Personally I think we should just do the flush and if necessary I'll pay for it. It's my birthday soon. I'll ask my friend for a donation towards her treatment rather than a gift. I don't want anything anyway!

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 22/09/2023 16:42

It'll be the gunk that the Sheba Flakes are in. I'd keep her on dry food once she's settled if you can. Don't know whether she would tolerate you cleaning her teeth - none of mine ever would!

FutureThroughLensOfThePast · 22/09/2023 16:45

Perhaps the rescue would pay for the theoretical cost of antibiotics, if you ask the vet to quote, and you could just pay the difference for the flush?

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 17:02

I'm keen to get her soley on dry. The wet stuff stinks. The only variety of wet food that that was ever actually eaten by my late girls was webox natural. I have some left, so might try that instead

That poor little cat has been through so much already ☹️

It will be fascinating to see her true character emerge as she settles more.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 17:28

If an ear flush it what it takes to cure her, then I'd rather just crack on and get on with it. Then we've Judy got her teeth to sort out.

I'm getting a bit pissed of with my usually lovely families attitude. That the rescue are encouraging unscrupulous breeders, by taking in their cats, so they can wash their hands of problems. There will always be dodgy breeders. But there is still a cat in need of help. Who without the rescue would face a very uncertain future. And to. It help on principle is wrong.

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 17:33

@Scampuss I suspect from the way she was climbing all over me last night, she's going to be like cheddar. Apparently the breeder said she would sleep on her head. I just hope she sits still id she does so. Magic would, but Cheddar is incapable of it!

Ask your family - what do they think is the alternative? The cat gets sold on Gumtree or Pets4Homes with no checks made whatsoever - a 'cute' cat like that would easily sell, but could go to someone well-meaning but clueless about that breed, or worse, to someone who is buying a cat on a whim and gets bored as soon as there is a whiff of inconvenience involved; and could end up going from home to home becoming more and more unwell and traumatised?

Toddlerteaplease · 22/09/2023 18:42

That's what I said to them. I don't think they understand that full Persians do need special care. As they are not normal cats at all. Not sure they are actually proper cats anyway!

Currently having a Cheddar and bacon crisp bake for tea. Cheddar is very upset!
